Birthday discrepancy

[edit]

Seems to be conflicting sources on her birthday; I've seen tags range from 1986 to 1989. Eastweek lists her as 1986. NextShark lists her as 1989. I'll add new sources when I can find them again but this is just to start the discussion as to whether or not we should include a date at all. BriefEdits (talk) 18:06, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at the Wikidata item to see all the reliable sources that I found about her birthday. --Martin Mystère (talk) 14:50, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Martin Mystère: I think it's interesting that the years vary so much even on user submitted websites like IMDB. I have reasons to believe that her the "real birth year" is actually older than the suggested 1986–1989 range (but research based on WP:SYNTHESIS isn't usable for Wikipedia). So given the assumption the subject is going out of her way to supply publications with varying birth years, then it'll probably be better to not have anything on the page per WP:DOB. (We could still do the birth day based on like a public social media post but that's hardly useful) — BriefEdits (talk) 19:33, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BriefEdits: I agree that it is better not to have a birth year in the article, because the subject and her PR team could always provide us a source that they like. On the Italian Wikipedia that's exactly what I did: I wrote that she was born on the 2nd of February of an unknown year and I explained in a footnote that according to the available sources it could be between 1986 and 1989. And I'll tell you more: I found an Apple Daily article about her birthday party in 2014 (dead, but luckily it has been archived) that explicitely says that "she stopped disclosing her age after she reached the age of 20" ("JuJu話過咗20歲之後,就唔再公開年齡"). Moreover, I looked at the archived pages of her official website and blog, but she wrote that her birthday was the 2nd of February or simply "private". Hence nobody can be sure about it because she is hiding this information on purpose, and there is a source that explain it. Maybe we should add a similar footnote here too, what do you think? --Martin Mystère (talk) 21:21, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Martin Mystère: Pardon my delay; I've completely forgotten about this talk thread. I am relatively indifferent about footnotes as I have never used them before. Feel free to be WP:BOLD and try it out. — BriefEdits (talk) 06:11, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BriefEdits: OK, I think that I am going to do it in order to prevent other users from adding her birth year without a really serious source. --Martin Mystère (talk) 09:06, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Feel free to modify it. --Martin Mystère (talk) 10:38, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
