Eh?? I stopped reading after this clunker...[edit]

From the 1st paragraph: "Jordan played an important role in the development of black artistic, social, and politic movements and is still widely regarded as one of the most significant and prolific writers of the twentieth century."

"Widely regarded" as one of the "most significant" writers of the 20th century?? Without some other qualifiers, that's insane. Who wrote this article, her relatives? Some editor should slap NPOV and "Silly hagiography" tags on this crap.

First of all, you guys have to get your facts staight becuase you don't know what your talking about. The choices we had were Phillip Vera Cruz and Ella Baker not Ceaser Chaves, Stupids. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 138.202.151.0 (talkcontribs) 00:07, 7 July 2006.

First of all, there is not need to belittle anyone for making an error in an article, especially if it a sincere mistake. Second, if going to make such comments, you should have the curiousity and the guts to sign your post. --chemica 05:29, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

African American too![edit]

This article says she was born in America and she was Black. (I saw her personally.) So she is "Jamaican American," but she is also "African American." I added some African American groups in her categories section and others can add more. I have never, never, never heard June Jordan say, "I'm a Jamaican American, don't ever call me 'African American'!" So that oversight won't do at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chumley41 (talkcontribs) 13:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Plan for addition to Early life/Marriage[edit]

I plan to add more information to Jordan's early life and marriage section of the Wikipedia page by finding sources from several places such as junejordan.com and poetryfoundation.org, both sites that are close to her. Also, in order to improve the page rating I am currently looking for a free license image of her, although I have gotten very little luck I have been e-mailing the folks over at junejordan.com asking for them to allow me to post one of the images off their website. Add to Career[edit]

I plan to add to the career section by using sources such as poetryfoundation.org, junejordan.com, and an article from the Chronicle. I will try to emphasize the program she created, Poetry for the People. In addition, our June Jordan group is working towards adding a new section, either writing style or words from her peers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elianacardenas (talkcontribs) 16:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

There was a sentence in the Early Life section -- "Jordan was known as 'the Poet of the People'"-- the only citation was to a UC Berkeley obit that didn't explain where this came from. I moved the sentence to the Career section, where her program Poetry for the People is discussed. But we still need some explanation -- what came first? that phrase characterizing her or the program she created?David Couch (talk) 02:54, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

/* A new section */[edit]

While researching Jordan I have come across many quotes from other authors who hold Jordan above many, I plan to dedicate a section entirely of quotes from other people who have commented on June Jordan as a woman, a writer, and a person. Ben.ruoff (talk) 17:51, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Death and Legacy: Citations[edit]

Could someone please find the citations for the information about the school and the conference room named after her? Thank you. --WilliamJacksonCharles (talk) 03:13, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
