abbreviations

[edit]

too many abbreviations of military terms in this article. please keep in mind that laypersons also want to understand it.--Severino (talk) 21:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to point out the name of this great national hero have been misspelled as Ataul Ghani Osmany (should be Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani). For reference please check http://www.bangladeshdir.com/webs/catalog/muhammad_ataul_gani_osmani.html I'd sincerely request to put his full name on the title rather than the abbreviated version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raisrulez (talkcontribs) 01:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Needs to be shortened

[edit]

This is a rather important article, since General Osmani was a central figure in Bangladesh's founding and liberation. I have shortened the lead and his early life section. I hope other editors contribute to making this article more precise and properly sized over time. Most of the notable and essential issues around Osmani are already here. But this article desperately needs a copy edit and cleanup. The previous tags perceived a possible bias, but that is mostly not the case.--180.234.75.2 (talk) 21:58, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bad ISBN

[edit]

Because it is causing a Checkwiki error #73: "ISBN-13 with wrong checksum", I removed the ISBN from these entries:

  • General Osmany' p.128, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8
  • General Osmany', Peer, M. Ataur Rahman, p. 90, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8
  • General Osmany', Peer, M. Ataur Rahman, p. 101, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8
  • Pir, M. Ataur Rahman, General Osmani p105, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8
  • Pir, M. Ataur Rahman, General Osmani p91, ISBN 984-70059-0104-8

I have tried unsuccessfully to locate the correct ISBN on the Internet; the best lead--here.

One obvious problem at the start: these five (well, four) citations do not spell the author's name similarly. Then, if we had the bibliographic information in the original language (Bangla), we could find the correct ISBN more easily. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 10:18, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A valid ISBN-13 does not begin with "984". Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 10:24, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bad ISBN #2

[edit]

Because it is causing a Checkwiki error #73: "ISBN-13 with wrong checksum", I removed the ISBN from the entry:

  • Hamid, Lt. Col (ret.) M.A. Psc, "Tinti Sena Avutthan O Kitho Na Bola Kotha p135, ISBN 9878-984-454 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum-96-2
  • Hamid, Lt. Col (ret.) M.A. Psc, "Tinti Sena Avutthan O Kitho Na Bola Kotha p71-75, ISBN 9878-984-454 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum-96-2

I have tried unsuccessfully to locate the correct ISBN on the Internet.

One obvious problem at the start: for ISBN-13, the prefix should be "978", but if we remove the extraneous "8" in the invalid ISBN above, only 12 digits remain. In addition, if we had the bibliographic information in the original language (Bangla???), we could find the correct ISBN more easily. Knife-in-the-drawer (talk) 08:16, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bad ISBN #3

[edit]

Because it is causing a Checkwiki error #72: "ISBN-10 with wrong checksum", I removed the ISBN from these entries:

  • Ibrahim, Maj Gen. (ret.) Sayed Muhammad, Senabahinir Abbhantare Atash Bachar p20, ISBN 984-410-133-8 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum
  • Ibrahim, Maj Gen. (ret.) Sayed Muhammad, Senabahinir Abbhantare Atash Bachar p22, ISBN 984-410-133-8 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum

I have tried unsuccessfully to locate the correct ISBN on the Internet, even using the original Bengali characters:

Merge proposal: Osmani Museum to here

[edit]

I couldn't verify that this museum meets WP:NOTABILITY. This article has been tagged for notability for over 7 years. It would be a shame to lose it completely from WP though, as it may interest those looking at Osmani. I think a section below/above the 'Personal Life' section would be the best option. Sending WP:APPNOTE to Carlossuarez46 and Dr. Blofeld. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 15:23, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for raising the issue. In the museum article I've added a citation to a very brief mention in an encyclopedia. I've also added to the further reading section: two guidebooks that give the museum a scant paragraph each, and a conference proceedings that mentions it, but at what depth I don't know without obtaining it from a library. 99.9% of the article is still based on the one original source, but do you think there's enough out there to remove the notability tag?
If it isn't in imminent danger of deletion I'd rather keep the museum article separate, although certainly a summary style paragraph about it could be added to M. A. G. Osmani and/or Sylhet#Culture. Worldbruce (talk) 08:19, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
