Infobox Genre[edit]

I wasn't sure what to put, so I picked "History" (it is, after all, about the history of Doom). If anyone has a better idea, I'm all for it. :) --EVula 21:19, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Video game history"? After all, Doom was a major event in vg history. --maru (talk) contribs 04:19, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't sure how specific I should get for the genre in infoboxes. EVula 05:33, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Film and series?[edit]

Davidkushner.com mentions both a Law & Order episode called FPS [1] and more importantly a film based on the book.[2] I haven't read the book (still searching), don't know relevant the info is, but perhaps it's interesting to add, especially since the current article is still pretty short. Speaking of which, shouldn't it at least briefly mention the Bill Gates video; right now the external link seems a bit out of place, unless you know what it's about / have read the book. Bill Gates video transcription[edit]

I wish there was a transcription for the Bill Gates Doom Video. I tried to write down everything I could understand, but I don't live in an English speaking country, thus I can't understand spoken english very well. This is a transcription made by me with the hope that someone will fix and reintegrates the missing parts.

This game is getting really realistic. [MISS] You may wondering what I'm doing here. Well I'm... I'm getting kind of a inside walk in some of these new games. I need to be amazed, all the new games I'm gonna show you here deceive me. We got a few key points to remember: first, Windows 95 is THE game platform. [MISS] the best performance, the best set up, the best integration [MISS] people are very focused on Windows 95. Thus, it's very impossible doing stairway games. Hard for the developers, hard for the users, [MISS]. A fact in key point is that we think the PC really is the entertainment platform for the future. And we gonna have the best performance, the way to reach out and do multiplayer games, lots of new peripherals and the improvements just keep coming. Our commitment is to make the tools, to make the platform better and better. - Hey Gates! Yeah, yeah, yeah! Don't interrupt me. And a third point is, I really wanna think all our third parties will made this possible. The reaction of the game community has been fantastic. I will be show you here seventy-five new games, all of which will be coming out by the end of the year. We really believe that with your help we'll be able to clean up this tossed mess and get everything focused on Windows. In its hard committment to keep moving ahead and doing that. I'd better go work cleaning up this neighborhood here. So, I'm off. Oh, and, don't forget -ahm when you [MISS] house, don't-don't lose your head. See you.

Film dead[edit]

It's probably a safe assumption that the film was never developed. IMDB has no entry for David Kushner. It's common for film rights to be purchased but more rare for it actually be made into a film. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 17:50, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wilson lawsuit[edit]

Does anyone know how the Wilson lawsuit ended? I cannot find anything about it online. Ashmoo (talk) 11:50, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't reviewed book GANs before, but I did use this book extensively for several articles, so lets see what we can do!

  • The lead seems pretty anemic; it doesn't really cover the "Content" section (which is like half of the article), or mention the Showtime movie attempt.
  • Background says he spent 5 years on research, but Content says it was six years. Neither says which years that was, though
    • I'm assuming the five years is for research, and six years is strictly about interviews. GamerPro64 04:48, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Background is also anemic; I think you could pull more from that Gamespy article about why he wrote it and why he chose the style he did
  • Should probably link video game journalism somewhere
  • "Seth Mnookin for The New York Times described the book for its pacing and detail" - not sure what "described for" means here
    • I must have meant praised. Not sure how that happened. Changed that bit. GamerPro64 04:20, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was confused how the book inspired the founding of Reddit, but it seems like it inspired them that founding a company could be fun, and Reddit is just the one they founded- should be mentioned
  • "As of 2020, the outcome of the lawsuit is unknown." - probably better as "No outcome of the suit was ever reported.", since I think if no source has anything after 18 years, it's not going to happen..
  • That 2019 pilot was in post-production in February 2020, so it did get made
  • Rahul Kohli (actor) saw the pilot and twote about it in 2021, implying that it wouldn't get made ("most pilots never see light of day")
    • I'm not entirely sure if a tweet like that would be a proper source on Wikipedia. GamerPro64 05:05, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Really what this article is missing is content. Lets see...
  • An audiobook of MoD was made in 2012 by Audiobooks.com, read by Wil Wheaton (Audible store page)
  • May be worth mentioning that Kushner, in addition to other non-fiction books, went on to write Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto in 2012, which is a similar idea to this book
  • Romero sells signed copies of the book on his website
  • Kirkus Reviews review of the book
    • Was in Further reading but I added it in. GamerPro64 05:21, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • PopMatters review of the book
  • Kushner blogpost about the book, says he's writing kind of a spiritual sequel serially online and has other details
  • Checked other GA non-fiction book articles and they have this structure, so I think this is pretty close, it just needs some filling out. --PresN 03:20, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, made a few more tweaks myself, and passing for GA. --PresN 18:57, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
