Performance Order #.[edit]

Please do not remove this. I integrated this into the charts very successfully last season. (This applies to all of the Top 12 contenders.) It is factual information, in that it is an indisputable order in which the contestant performed on that particular night. And it is relevant to anyone doing a review or synopsis of the show who wants to analyze statistics and such. (Notice how all 3 who performed last on their respective nights made the Top 12.) It is an especially good record one they all perform on the same night. Thank you.--Cinemaniac86Oy_gevalt. 16:03, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Theme vs Original Artist[edit]

Aspects and I continue to go around and around about the definition of "original artist." Aspects seems to think this should refer to the theme, while I think it makes more sense to refer to the actual original artist.

The song in question is Rockin' Robin by Bobby Day. While watching American Idol that night, I remarked to my wife, "I don't think that's a MJ original." Not being from the 60's, I had to look it up. Sure enough, it wasn't even the first mainstream cover of the song.

Bobby Day is the original artist, period. Especially considering there is a whole second column defining the theme of the week, what sense does it make to continue reverting to Michael Jackson as the original artist? -- puskarm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.7.52.17 (talk) 22:09, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since I only made the change once over two weeks ago, it is hard to say we will "continue to go around and around" when we have not started. As to your complaint, it does not make perfect sense to refer to the actual orginal artist because it does not fit the theme of the week. If the average Wikipedia reader read the page they would be confused as to why a Bobby Day song would be sung on a Michael Jackson themed week. The theme and the original artist do not have to be the same, see Jasmine Murray's page: she sang "I'll Be There" which is not a Michael Jackson song, but a Jackson 5 song but it still fits in the Michael Jackson theme. Per WP:BRD, I am changing the original artist back to Michael Jackson until there is a consensus reached that it should be changed since you started this talk after nearly two weeks of it being Michael Jackson (meaning that no one thought it was incorrect) and after making the reversion a couple of days ago. Aspects (talk) 18:09, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My position is simple. The "original artist" is Bobby Day, not Michael Jackson. Puskarm (talk) 15:45, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From 3O[edit]

It seems pretty clear-cut that Bobby Day is the original artist and that MJ just did a cover/remake. I would not worry too much about the dissonance of another artist being listed under original artist under a themed week -- other American Idol pages do the same. Megan Joy vs. Megan Joy Corkrey[edit]

The opening lead should read "Megan Joy (born August 5, 1985), formerly known as Megan Joy Corkrey, is an American singer from Sandy, Utah who came in ninth place on the eighth season of American Idol.", not "Megan Joy Corkrey (born August 5, 1985) is an American singer from Sandy, Utah who came in ninth place on the [eighth season of American Idol."

The name of her article is Megan Joy, the infobox uses Megan Joy and all subsequent uses of her name in the article are Joy. The first version shows that she was once know as Megan Joy Corkrey. The second version makes it confusing why the Corkrey is there when Joy is used throughout the rest of the article. Aspects (talk) 01:12, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, it should read as it was and he subsequent uses of Joy should be changed to Corkrey. Tamajared (talk) 20:42, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just saying no is not trying to reach a consensus. Why do feel it should be changed to Corkrey? Aspects (talk) 04:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • In my opinion, she should always be refered to as Megan Joy unless she herself decides to become known publically as Megan Joy Corkrey once more. I think the mention that she was formally known as Megan Joy Corkey is sufficient enough mention of the Corkrey. :) (90.203.39.181 (talk) 19:00, 12 April 2009 (UTC))[reply]
