BLP issue

[edit]

While the name is a borderline BLP issue, there are sources referring to Molly as Molly Windman. For instance, here's one from this week at Huffington Post: "Below is a shot in front of the green screen with Leah and Molly Windman (l), host of Rocketboom." Here's one in Polish. These aren't enough to change the article name, but it's certainly enough to have a discussion about what meets the WP:V/WP:RS threshold. If you disagree, please discuss or take to WP:BLPN rather than reverting. tedder (talk) 15:38, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The IP is suggesting the name has been mirrored from here. The name was added here without there being any citations to support it.There is a thread at the BLPN Off2riorob (talk) 15:47, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's entirely possible the name has been mirrored from here, and certainly the article shouldn't be named counter to WP:NCCN (among other things). But the name exists in the wild, so a discussion about the WP:V-ness of Windman is appropriate. In other words, I'm agreeing that the article shouldn't be named "Molly Windman", but I disagree about squelching discussion of that name. tedder (talk) 16:02, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, you just caught me mid cleaning, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 16:11, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, just a little bit of stepping-on-toes all 'round. It's all good. tedder (talk) 16:13, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How is the HP reference 'circular'? --Cameron Scott (talk) 16:24, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A singe reference in the bottom of a HP article to add a disputed name that is of no value at all is weak indeed. There is as Tedder says nothing strong enough to claim that the name does not originate from here. You could add Smith or Jones it would add the same, nothing of any value. Off2riorob (talk) 16:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wait this is all back to front - where is the evidence that this "did" come from here? By the logic used here, we could remove about half of the sources on wikipedia with the claim that it came from here originally. where is the *evidence* this is true? The on-line magazine Alsyum (which is used as RS in at least 12 articles) also identifies her by that name - are we saying that is also from here - what if I produce a reference in the times? I don't see any policy based reason for exclusion if there are RS that make this claim. --Cameron Scott (talk) 16:35, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is the chance that it originates from here, the name is disputed and the name adds nothing, if the upcoming interview with the huffington Post reveals more details then we can look at it again, we are not in the buisness of weakly claimed exposes of unidentified internet posters. Off2riorob (talk) 16:40, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am pretty sure the Windman name does not originate from here because I was following her appointment to rocketboom at the time. However, I'll just ask Andrew Baron and Molly what they go for, I am pretty sure one of them will reply to me.--Milowenttalkblp-r 16:46, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But that's OR and SPS we can't go off that. --Cameron Scott (talk) 16:47, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Its not useless to ask, imho. --Milowenttalkblp-r 16:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The more i look, I can't say where the windman name comes from.--Milowenttalkblp-r 17:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The original post is here without the name, I would say HP have added it them selves, http://www.beet.tv/2010/09/rocketboom-goes-live-for-youtube-pilot-programm-.html as they are a bit of an expose outing type and it is not beyond the realms of possibilities they got the name here. If fact I would say it is pretty likely looking at it. Off2riorob (talk) 16:48, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is just your OR, I find this all very bizarre. You've still not presented a shred of WP:V to support your claim that the name came from here. --Cameron Scott (talk) 17:00, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can you see that the name isn't in the original but has been added by the HP staff? Off2riorob (talk) 17:01, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It actually was about 50 minutes... (but obviously that's my own OR and I can't add that to the article). --Cameron Scott (talk) 17:05, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I find the idea that we must have this disputed name in the article in such a weakly claimed situation when it adds absolutely nothing of any value a bit much. Off2riorob (talk) 16:52, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Besides your distaste, what's the policy based reason? Are you saying if Five reliable sources provide WP:V you are saying it's not allowed? --Cameron Scott (talk) 16:58, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend removing the references to Windman as unverified. Plus, I just got this facebook email from Mr. Baron, the head of Rocketboom, "Andrew Baron September 15 at 2:03pm Windham is a false name, never was her last name, not sure where that comes from. It's just Molly. No last name used." (Screenshot of msg: [1])--Milowenttalkblp-r 18:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your efforts to attempt to clear that up Millowent. - Off2riorob (talk) 18:58, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, beet.tv updated their article and removed her surname: [2] tedder (talk) 23:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I quite like that, seems a official upload and likely WP:RS for windman. This reply refutes it though? Myself , if in doubt leave it out, as she is a meme her real name actually adds little anyways, she is notable as meme molly, so..... Off2riorob (talk) 15:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This has been presented as a reliable claim for a real name but fails to produce http://www.rocketboom.com/save-the-date-ep4/ - Off2riorob (talk) 14:54, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think this might be an appropriate time to re-discuss whether her last name should be in the article? It seems we have more, and more varied sources now. What does everybody think? Mtijn (talk) 11:30, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that she is not using "Meme Molly" at My Damn Channel, and she has confirmed here, and that leads to here (MY DAMN CHANNEL TALENT NETWORK WILL SIGN, DEVELOP, PRODUCE NEW VIDEO STARS) which says "Molly Templeton".
Taken from "MY DAMN CHANNEL TALENT NETWORK WILL SIGN, DEVELOP, PRODUCE NEW VIDEO STARS:
New York, NY – August 1, 2011 – My Damn Channel, a leading entertainment studio and distributor of original videos, hired Molly Templeton to the new position, Director of Talent & Audience Development. Effective today, Molly will lead the My Damn Channel Talent Network division. She will sign, develop and produce new video creators whose work will appear on www.MyDamnChannel.com and throughout the My Damn Channel distribution network of partner sites. Molly will also manage daily content operations between My Damn Channel and its premium programming partners to expand the social media presence of new and established talent in the network.
That is pretty point blank. Devilmanozzy (talk) 16:30, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Meme MollyMememolly – The name "meme molly" seems to be OR. Molly has said her name is actually 'me me molly', and in practice everywhere it's always written as one word "mememolly", so we should just move it back. Even the article writes it as one word.GliderMaven (talk) 15:55, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 2013

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Keep as Mememolly. As of right now 'Mememolly' seems to be her Common Name, and there doesn't seem to be consensus to change it to her real name. Her Twitter Comments don't really hold much weight here, unfortunately. If, in the future, someone feels there is consensus to move the page to Molly Templeton there is no harm in opening another RM. MememollyMolly Templeton – A previous discussion (seems to have) reached a consensus that her birth name is Molly Templeton, and I think it's the norm for YouTubers' articles to be named for their birthnames, not their usernames. Mtijn (talk) 09:32, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace

The infobox says she was born in Canada the article says UK. It would be helpful to ensure these are corrected and consistent.
