Moon Tae-jongJarod Stevenson – Moon Tae-jong is the name on his South Korean passport. While he was born in Korea, he didn't become a Korean citizen until 2011 when he was around 36 (near the end of his long career) so that he can represent Korea internationally, while still retaining his American citizenship.[1] Therefore he didn't really change his legal name, just having to adopt a Korean name for his naturalization. Being the English wikipedia, I think the "English name" takes precedence (especially since he's not that fluent in Korean). The French, Turkish and Italian pages all use "Jarod Stevenson" so it's also not like he only became notable after playing for the Korea national team. Relisted. • Oppose He is an active professional player and this is the name he plays under now. I watched most of S.Korea's first World Cup game and the name Jerod Stevenson wasn't used once. A redirect plus the explanation in the lead and infobox is sufficient. Rikster2 (talk) 18:04, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • it is his COMMONNAME as a professional, it isn't about what his legal name. We do the same for NBA players who start to use their middle name, a nickname exclusively, etc. This guy uses this name in his current professional context (and has for around 5 years), with FIBA, and he self identifies by this name on social media, as linked above. To me this is a no brainer to keep as it is with a redirect so people can find the article under the old name. Rikster2 (talk) 10:26, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: This subject's notability was established under the English name. Timmyshin's response to Rikster2 is compelling – I do not believe we would move those other article on the same basis, so this one needs to go back to Jarod Stevenson. This is essentially a WP:COMMONNAME matter, vs. WP:OFFICIALNAME. It's doubtful that the entirety of all reliable sources that mention him before he started using the Korean name are dwarfed by the more recent ones that use it.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  02:21, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment - Most of Metta World Peace's notability came as Ron Artest. Jayson Castro plays professionally (in the Philippine Basketball Association) as Jayson Castro, not Jayson William, etc. Moon Tae-Jong is known as Moon Tae-Jong professionally, in international play, and self-identifies that way. BTW, he is still notable - and active - it's not like he's retired and going by some random name. Rikster2 (talk) 12:13, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Moon Tae-jong is WP:COMMONNAME. Most people who know him are currently calling him Moon Tae-jong. Sawol (talk) 04:33, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
