Yes Ms Cheng is amazing I found her address after reading her book 2 weeks ago. Even though I was not sure it was her I sent letter anyway. 5 Days later I got a hand written letter from Ms Cheng she said she just turned 94 years old, and that Penguin just informed her that they were not printing her book to paperback. She seemed ok with that she said the money rasied for her book supported her and helped her create a scholorship fund commemorating Meiping her daughter. Ms Cheng said she loves her life in the USA and is happpy to have become a citizen in 1988. Ms Cheng commented she wants to be a good USA citizen, I think she has accomplished that. May God bless this amazing woman.

Oh, what a woman! It is wonderfull to know, that a human being can act like her. I am reading her book( I am on page 256 now), and if she still is here, I want her to know, that she is fasinating me through the book. Nmjohnson, are you still drinking tea with her?

Neutral tone needed[edit]

Her original name is Nian-yuan Yao, her husband's family name is Cheng. I found that in Chinese Wikipedia. Anthony Li, Feb 5, 2007

Read Cheng's book "Life and Death in Shanghai" to learn about the author and the horrors she and a multitude of other Chinese underwent during the Mao years.
