Dates[edit]

Does anyone know the dates of the contest(s)? All it says is 1990. --Proudhug (talk) 20:09, 24 March 2013 (UTC)20:08, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My sources down below state that it started on March 8, 1990 in the Fair Park's Automobile Building in Dallas, Texas and went on for months through 29 different cities (two events being in LA, California) within the United States until the grand finals on December 7, 1990 at Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. So this competition took over 8 months and 29 days. --Marioluigi98 (talk) 01:43, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Verify[edit]

Can someone verify that 26 gold cartridges were made? I'm pretty sure there were 50 made, not 26. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.211.251.118 (talk) 02:01, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you're referring to Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991 which only had 50 made. [1]76.232.99.10 (talk) 09:04, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

St. Paul contestant[edit]

I can verify that the St. Paul contestant in the 11 and under age group was Andrew Luers, based upon the official Contestant Information flyer provided to finalists at the Nintendo World Championships. You can see a scan of this flyer here: [2] --TaviRider (talk) 23:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Locking the finalist list and winners[edit]

The list of finalists and winners is a regular target for vandals who put other names in the list. It's accurate, and it's final, per the scan of the official finalist list [3]. Is there some way to lock the list from further edits? --TaviRider (talk) 04:47, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Highest price sold verify[edit]

Destructoid reports a gold copy was sold along with 23 other games for $21,400 in 2007.[4] Shack news reports the same thing among other sites. [5] However I'll allow someone not an Anon to add that to the Article itself.76.232.99.10 (talk) 09:04, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Angry Video Game Nerd[edit]

Since this game is so rare, wouldn't it be prudent to make mention that the AVGN has both the gold and the grey version? 173.28.254.75 (talk) 07:40, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Correction, AVGN has the gold, and the Nintendo punk has the grey 173.28.254.75 (talk) 22:25, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

None of what you said has any proof in it. In the AVGN episode (also big fan!) it is not shown who owns which cart. Also, I don't think any form of a source for a cititation would be appropriate. Wikipedia would probably delete the video as a source, no matter if on YT, or Cinemassacre, or whatever other of the 100, 000, 000 sites that carry AVGN videos. Also if it was mentioned, it should be called James D. Rolfe (a.k.a the Angry Video Game Nerd). Not just AVGN. Kelton2 (talk) 19:20, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have your source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs2wczJXETM around 8:20, wiki officials can verify it. or if that does not work: http://www.destructoid.com/the-avgn-found-the-holy-grail-of-nes-collecting-210021.phtml 63.140.104.136 (talk) 08:08, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Those link back to the AVGN episode themselves. The issue, pointed out by Kelton2 is that their appearance in that the episode itself does not prove who owns the cartridges. We need a reliable source that states who actually owns those things. --Jtalledo (talk) 17:07, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

hi, I think AVGN own only reproduction cart, Pat the NES Punk own gray and gold. in S06E24 of TV show Pawn Stars (link here http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xxi4c1_pat-the-nes-punk-on-pawn-stars_videogames#.UT7kATd6nmE) you can see purchase agreement, which proves Pat the NES Punk buyed gold cart direct from Michael Headly. M. Headly is Players Poll Contest Winner of gold cart shown in Nintendo Power magazine - issue #18 1990 nov-dec.--BeNiSh (talk) 08:26, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Casey Austin Sheehan[edit]

is that death son of user "Caseys_dad" from myebid.com auction "24 carts for $24" with gold NWC? http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Sheehan,_Casey --BeNiSh (talk) 10:22, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All I have to say is: Wow. KyuuA4 (Talk:キュウ) 09:45, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Let's hope it sells and gets picked up on by the media. This would make an interesting development for the article. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 18:22, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've had to rewrite the section in question in a less tabloid and more encyclopaedic fashion since it didn't seem appropriate. I also didn't see the need to point out that one of the bids was at ~$30,000 since the last bid was ~$99,000. Why point that out as notable? Thanks Jenova20 (email) 09:30, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo World ChampionshipsNintendo World Championships 1990 – Prevent confusion with NWC 2015 RyDawg96 (talk) 06:47, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That article was, in itself, an act of confusion and is thus now a redirect to this one. It was not a valid article, as its contents are redundant to this one except for additional WP:GAMECRUFT WP:GAMEGUIDE WP:TRIVIA; and because the subject is inherently limited in scope as part of the overall series and can't be expanded. Also, your proposed title is wrong because the year is not part of the subject's name. Thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 05:17, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this article seems to cover both the 2015 and 1990 events. However, I will note the history of this article shows a vastly different article in January 2014 ; so there is a mess here. -- 70.51.203.69 (talk) 06:52, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There was a mess. This proposal was originally misguided, and is now totally moot. It shouldn't have been made, then should have been withdrawn, and will be closed anyway. — Smuckola(talk) 07:30, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm surprised that these aren't simply two different articles, seeing as how little the two events actually have to do with eachother besides the name. I'm a bit confused about this move request, though, but if it means to split the article up into two articles (one for the 1990 event and one for the 2015 event), I am all for it. Unless, I assume Nintendo isn't planning to make this a yearly thing, right? That would create even more confusion, though I guess a possibly overview page should be made from scratch then. ~Mable (chat) 11:25, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

others[edit]

If this article is going to be about both the 1990 NWC and the 2015 one, shouldn't there also be some mention of other related events like the 1991 Campus Challenge and the 1994 Powerfest? 100.4.156.19 (talk) 23:01, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2017[edit]

Shouldn't we update the logo? Ramesty (talk) 17:21, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Games[edit]

Shouldn't a section like that be in there? A section for which games they used? I'll try to write something up if someone gives me approval(of course I'll show it here first). Ramesty (talk) 13:09, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong names?[edit]

Hello, I don't understand these sentences :

Three 1990 World Champion titles were given. Erin Schroeder won in the 11 and under category, Thor Aackerlund won in the 12–17 category, and Robert Whiteman won in the 18 and older category.[10]

There was no official competition round to crown a single winner. However, after the competition ended there was an informal face-off between the three winners, with Thor Aackerlund taking first place, Jeff Hansen taking second, and Drew Dawson finishing third.

The first one names the 3 winners. The second one states that "the three winners" have an informal face-off and out of the 3 names here, only 1 is the same as the 3 winners in the first sentence.

Patrick Scott Patterson[edit]

An anonymous editor keeps entering information about Patrick Scott Patterson's opinion regarding this movie. He had nothing to do with the movie. This is self promotion and is against the rules. The article linked (his review of the movie) no longer works and it was removed from the original website for being irrelevant. datagod (talk) 🍁 22:29, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I"m confused by this, I"ve never heard of this Patrick person before, is he anyone of note? I've been following high profile video game events as a hobby for some time and I"m surprised someone so unknown was ever involved in such a big deal. ~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6011:8901:E78D:D387:633:6A4:81F0 (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ok i found a lot of blog spots about him, he seems to get invovled with a lot of back and forth drama with someone else i never heard of before, Rudy ferretti? Rudys accusations also lacked sources so i wont be repeating them here, i did however find pat contri did a video on him with sources. He appears to be an ebay video game flipper. Dont know if that helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfkvp9kteZE — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6011:8901:E78D:D387:633:6A4:81F0 (talk) 23:44, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
