Notability

[edit]

I believe panpanya is a notable enough mangaka to warrant their own page. In Japan, they are relatively mainstream and well known (see their Japanese language wiki page), whilst in English their popularity is growing, and since two more of their works are receiving translations this year, this will become increasingly true. They have been interviewed many times by Japanese media and have been featured in an exhibition by the British Museum, and I believe these mean that a separate article is acceptable. Again I will add more over the coming days but someone who is fluent in Japanese would also be appreciated in tracking down all of these sources. As I noted in the edit summary, the current sources cited on the ja.wiki article fall short of establishing WP:GNG. The Omocoro coverage is good, although it's more about one specific work by Panpanya than it is about Panpanya themselves; the other sources are interviews and database entries/store listings, which don't count toward establishing notability. The additional English source from TCJ [1] gets us most of the way to establishing notability, however, as it devotes a fair amount of text to describing Panpanya's career trajectory. signed, Rosguill talk 14:05, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Pardon my ignorance, as I am new and would like to clarify that I understand everything, but is the problem with the interviews that they do not discuss panpanya's career and notability enough, but instead devote more time to the content of the works alone? The problem with interviews is that they are not independent of the subject. The main relevant guideline is WP:GNG. signed, Rosguill talk 15:36, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, that was my second guess. I'll do my best to be more diligent in the future. Thank you again. Orange Classics (talk) 15:45, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
