Eileen Joyce in "Man of Flowers"

[edit]

References support the notion that this was the same person as the Australian pianist Eileen Joyce, but I've long wondered why she chose to appear in a straight acting role, when she had no background whatsoever in acting. She did appear as herself in some documentary films, and her playing was featured in some famous movies such as "Brief Encounter" and "The Seventh Veil" (both 1945), but she never acted as such till 1983, and only for this one movie. Does anyone know how and why Paul Cox chose her for this minor role? There's nothing about it that I can find anywhere online. -- JackofOz (talk) 01:29, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just finished Richard Davis's very detailed biography Eileen Joyce: A Portrait, and there's no mention of it. She was suffering senile dementia by that time, and it's highly unlikely it was the same Eileen Joyce. -- JackofOz (talk) 05:02, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
