Spirit of the West
[edit]The band Spirit of the West featured a song on the 1996 Due South Volume 2 soundtrack entitled "Bone of Contention". It involves his 1991 arrest and the following media over-reaction to the incident. I don't know how formatting and stuff works on wikipedia so I'll let someone else decide if it should be included and make the changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.172.147.143 (talk) 03:55, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
bisexuality
[edit]I've read on other sites that Paul Reubens is bisexual, why is this not mentioned in the article at all? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.162.251.196 (talk) 06:41, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

I created a separate Pee-wee Herman article
[edit]That's right; the Pee-wee Herman character has his own article as long as I can help it. And I know the Paul Reubens article will discuss, to different extents, some of the same topics, but its primary focus is on the life and career of Reubens, including his vast amount of work outside of playing Pee-wee. The Pee-wee Herman article can focus on deeper information regarding all of the character's appearances as well as his origin and development, which can now be deemphasized on the Reubens page.
I've seen people's disputes over this, but to not allow an article dedicated to the fictional character of Pee-wee Herman would be ludicrous considering Stephen Colbert has one for both his true self as well as his fictional character seen on The Colbert Report. Also consider that Jim Varney has his own article and a separate article dedicated to his most well known character, Ernest P. Worrell, who has made arguably fewer significant appearances as Pee-wee.
So to recap, Paul Reubens and Pee-wee Herman are not one in the same, and they both have significant enough accomplishments to merit their own separate Wikipedia articles. Please leave it this way and help clean up the Reubens article, which was already in need of improvements. Cale (talk) 08:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
POV-check
[edit]I've nominated this article to be checked for its neutrality. The main instigator was a piece of text that I just removed, which was introduced by an anonymous editor in April 2007 (see the diff), spinning Reubens' first arrest as a means to "escape Pee-wee". That sort of spin-doctoring is rather shocking and concerning. Later comments in the "Recent activity" section concern me more. But in general, that this sort of thing has been in the article for so many revisions makes me worry that the article may have a fundamental skew. Thus, I hope someone will help check this article for neutrality. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 03:11, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see why the article is not neutral, unsourced sure but POV? where? In any case, I might fact check and rewrite this article in the next few days. Cheerio!--Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 23:53, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Eh, it might not be a serious problem. However, the skew inherent in the statement provided earlier struck me as concerning, and that it had remained in the article for so long, it struck me that the other content, especially in that section, should be gone over as it is the sort of place to hide spin. While unsourced might be a better tag, the spin inherent in the "escaping Pee-wee" casts suspicion on the other content. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 16:08, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, maybe. In any case thanks for tagging the article, I hate those huge banners and in this case it totally inspired me to put this article in shape. With some help this could be a GA by tomorrow :D Cheeeerio---Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 20:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Hollywood Boulevard star
[edit]Can anyone in Los Angeles confirm this: "His star was also removed from the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame."? ---Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 20:09, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- The star is for "Pee-wee Herman", not Paul Reubens. A 2001 profile of Reubens includes this text:
- With Reubens out of sight for most of the past decade, rumours began to circulate that even his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame had been removed because of his arrest. But according to Anna Holler, a publicist for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the star (in the name of Pee-Wee Herman) is still in its original place at 6562 Hollywood Blvd., near the corner of Whitley Avenue. "If we removed all of the stars of celebrities who had brushes with the law, we would have very few left," she observes wryly.

Premature GA nomination
[edit]Please do not nominate articles if you do not believe that they are ready. If it still needs quite a bit of work, that work should be done first. GaryColemanFan (talk) 17:19, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- RLY? The article is a CE and a lead section away from being a perfect GA candidate...--Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 13:18, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure where the confusion lies. If it needs a copyedit and a lead section before it's ready to be a GA candidate, it should be nominated after the copyedit and the lead section are completed. GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:01, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I quickly scanned through the article. One thing that would be good to work on while waiting for the review is ensuring that the citations are complete. Several are missing important information. At minimum, they should include a title, publisher, url, and accessdate. If a publication date and/or author is listed, this information should be included as well. If you need it, please see Template:Cite web for more information. GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:10, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

- Not a problem. I've done the same thing (copying and pasting "tile" instead of "title" and getting a ton of error messages). There are still a few citations that need to be formatted, though. GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:29, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Photo
[edit]Thank goodness there's a current image now! One thing I might suggest though is cropping it a bit, maybe so it's just the head and shoulders area; it being so tall makes the infobox extremely tall. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 18:55, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

- Oh god, I didn't even see the fanny pack; it blends in with his pants so well. That is pretty funny. But if you did get some more pics that would make better infobox images, this one would be it. excellent later in the article since it's so thin, it wouldn't interfere much with readability, I would think. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 15:20, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Weird sentence in lead
[edit]"In 2001 policeman raided Reubens' house, founding items characterized by the city attorney's office as child pornography."
- Does anyone else find this sentence odd? Lord Sesshomaru (talk • edits) 00:05, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Class A
[edit]Based on my personal peer review of this article and comparing it to the criteria at WP:FA? I find that this article meets those criteria and is class A. I will not nominate it for FA status. I leave that up to you. There is only one quibble with the article. Which is that no citations appear in the lead. Other than that it is basically a complete encyclopedia article on this man. --Hfarmer (talk) 07:18, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Pee-wee's Playhouse (section)
[edit]Mainly due to its relative length, I've taken the most of the content from this section and moved it into the main article on this subject, and substituted a short summary taken from there. Hope no-one is disgruntled by this amendment. Thanks.
Dunks (talk) 07:59, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- grump, grump, the section had Reubens view and thoughts on the Playhouse plus the production story was really, REALLY summarized, now it doesn't even mention the fact that he produced and directed it. And why remove the screenshot? Also, S. Epatha Merkerson, Natasha Lyonne and Lawrence Fishburne are "major TV/movie stars"? I mainly don't agree with the cut because now the Playhouse section looks almost exactly as it did 3 months ago before I started working on it. Thoughts?--Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 18:07, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Paul Reubens & Pee-wee Herman articles coexisting
[edit]I see this article is far better composed than the Pee-wee Herman article and even has information that arguably would better suit the Pee-wee article. Mentioning the failed Pee-wee Herman breakfast cereal and other merchandise, plus other Pee-wee related details would probably make sense to be included in the Pee-wee article itself, but it's often hard to make distinction between discussing the Pee-wee character and discussing the career/life of Reubens. I'm considering moving some of the said information into the Pee-wee article but don't want to repeat to much of the same statements and would gladly listen to discussion/argument over this topic. Cale (talk) 00:15, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

2002 arrest and plea bargain
[edit]The cited article (num 24 right now) clearly shows that Reubens entered a plea bargain and that's why he was required to register as a sex offender. This isn't so clear in the first line of this paragraph. It seems to suggest that all charges were dropped and sex offender status was required nonetheless. This might be edited for clarity. --72.67.101.156 (talk) 08:36, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Blow was not a blockbuster.
[edit]I realize this is fairly minor edit, but the characterization of Blow in the lead paragraph as a "blockbuster" is -according to wikipedia's own article on the film- very inaccurate.

Reubens's orientation
[edit]Pleasantview, what interview(s) are you referring to? I don't believe Reubens has ever explicitly said in any interview. Possessing kitschy art doesn't give anything away either.--The lorax (talk) 18:53, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Please do some more research on his arrest and you will see that his defense was that being homosexual isn't a crime and he isn't a molester. Please reply with any questions you have. (Pleasantview (talk) 01:08, 3 January 2010 (UTC))
- Could you show us the interview/article please? I've done extensive research on his arrest and I never came across that argument. --Yamanbaiia(TALK!) 22:52, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- Even if this was his defense, it doesn't necessarily reveal anything about his orientation. Even if it did, WP:BLP means that we don't report on such personal issues unless the person has announced them publicly. If you're correct, then at best, we could mention that this was the defense that he gave. -Verdatum (talk) 15:49, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Here I found this interview to backup pleasantview [1] Phrasia (talk) 04:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- That doesn't back him up at all. In the interview he does not give the argument that Pleasantview claims and in fact, Reubens says the images were just part of his passion for collecting, which includes everything from "fake food, to lamps, to grease containers." (OT but it's really a shame that there never was an MTV Cribs episode of his house.) In addition, here is Reubens' motion to dismiss the case, and again his chief argument was the materials were art and nothing about his orientation.--The lorax (talk) 06:01, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
A Disney Movie
[edit]Paul Reubens also was the voice of Max in the Disney movie "Flight of the Navigator"... one of the most important rolls in the movie. However, in the credits his name is listed as "Paul Mall". They are the same person. You don't have to listen hard to tell that it' Pee Wee's voice. He has one of those voices that is un-mistakable. Flight of the Navigator is also the first Disney (childrens) movie that I have heard any "foul" language in. I may be wrong. The movie came out in 1984. If any one knows any earlier childrens movies by Disney with "foul" language, please let me know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsdragon69 (talk • contribs) 18:48, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- Flight of the Navigator has it's own article, and talk of film firsts is off-topic here. But I do find it a bit lacking that his role isn't mentioned here. Adding a sentence or two mentioning it here would be good. -Verdatum (talk) 21:01, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
West Davenport NY
[edit]February 17, 2010
Sometime between 1964 and 1968 Paul Reubens, also attended high school at West Davenport High School, in West Davenport, NY,which is near Oneonta, NY. That is one reason for the connection to Oneonta, NY which is about 6.5 miles from West Davenport, NY. If you go to West Davenport High School there is a school picture with Paul Reubens in it.

Personal Life?
[edit]With most people there is a "personal life" category detailing any marriages, relationships, engagements, etc... Why is there not one for Paul? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jerseygirldv (talk • contribs) 19:23, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't looked into it for this article, but in most cases when a bio article lacks a "personal life" section, it's because there's little or no information available in reliable sources discussing the subject's life outside of his or her profession.
- Also, many biography articles follow the "early life and education", "professional life", "personal life", "illness and death" (where applicable) organization. This article doesn't quite take that organization, and goes by year ranges instead. In such a situation, information that would normally go in "personal life" might well be mixed in with information that would go in "professional life". —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 22:06, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- That was previously true but Reubens recently revealed he had a relationship with Debi Mazar: “What finally pulled me out of my shell the first time was that I fell in love. I met a women, an actress—Debi Mazar—at a movie screening toward the end of 1993 and was just so incredibly completely smitten that it was like, Boom, I’m back! It was so powerful; it was a gift. I would be all funky and dark, but she was able to just say a bunch of stuff to me, like ‘Come on! Up, up, up up!’”--The lorax (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Short stint on "Everybody Loves Raymond"

1991 arrest
[edit]I don't have it to hand, but I distinctly remember that at the time of the 1991 arrest, Rolling Stone did an article on it, in which the writer alleged that the vice squad crew was partly staffed by fundamentalist Christians, who viewed their work as a crusade, and were in fact following Reubens for some time, hoping to be able to bust him for something, because they believed he was, or his show was, a "bad influence" on kids. In other words, the writer implied that the whole bust was a set-up. Sorry I can't find the exact reference, as it's the only time I ever saw that mentioned, and it seems to have vanished from the cultural memory of the event.Theonemacduff (talk) 04:29, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Grammatical correction request. I have added underscores before and after the parts I believe should be added or changed.
In the subsection "1990's and comeback in Blow" I would like to change the line from
"The role earned him positive reviews and his first and only non-Pee-wee Emmy nomination __in the__ Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series."
to a more accurate phrasing of :
"The role earned him positive reviews and his first and only non-Pee-wee Emmy nomination __for__ Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series."
or
"The role earned him positive reviews and his first and only non-Pee-wee Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series __category__."
Using "in the" should be replaced or the sentence modified to state what nomination was received.
Thank you!

In the Early Life and Education section, request that you revert "Israeli invasion of Palestine" to "Israeli War of Independence" - change was made by user Amband 25 May 2012 @ 07:44 and marked as a "minor edit" which per [[2]] should be used to denote only superficial edits "that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute." The change was not the subject of any discussion, and appears to be politically motivated; the editor has made prior unconstructive edits that have been reverted. If the phrase "Israeli War of Independence" is itself controversial, I suggest replacing with "1948 Arab-Israeli War", the title of the on the conflict.
Apologies if this edit request should instead be a "talk" topic; I'm new to Wikipedia editing.
Thanks.

Church of the SubGenius Membership?
[edit]Recently. User:Pburka removed the following pages from Category:American SubGenii.
Paul Reubens AKA Pee Wee Herman [3] (Mentioned here and here)
Penn Jillette [4] (Mentioned here and here and here)
Rudy Rucker [5] (Mentioned here, here, here and here)
Nancy A. Collins [6] (Mentioned here, here and here)
John Shirley [7] (Mentioned here and here)
Bruce Campbell [8] (Mentioned here and here)
Del Close [9] (Mentioned here)
Lon Milo DuQuette [10](Mentioned here)
These removals were perfectly reasonable, because the articles do not mention membership in the COSG, nor are most of the links I list above reliable sources. Because of this, I am putting out a call for citations to reliable sources that establish Church of the SubGenius membership for these and other celebrities. I suspect that a fair count will put the number considerably higher than the number of celebrity Scientologists. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:49, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- The two parts of WP:BLPCAT that seem most relevant are "the case for each category must be made clear by the article text and its reliable sources" -- meaning we need to add something about Church of the SubGenius Membership in the text and we need a citation supporting it, and "Categories regarding religious beliefs ... should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief" -- meaning that we need a citation where Paul Reubens himself says he is a member or strong supporter. As I said before, I think that Pburka removing the category was entirely correct; I just want to improve the article in such a way that the category can be re-added. So, does anyone know of such a citation? --Guy Macon (talk) 04:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The second paragraph states that his arrest was in 1981, when it was in 1991. This should be fixed. Newsedition (talk) 14:44, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Above and Beyond appearance
[edit]The recent documentary http://aboveandbeyondthemovie.com/ has Reubens talking about his father's involvement in the formation of the Israel Air Force. This should be added to his filmography 12.46.103.194 (talk) 15:47, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I second the motion. He has several very powerful scenes in the movie in which he reads from his father's logbook. DaRitz60 (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2015 (UTC)DaRitz60

Disneyland - Star Tours
[edit]Unfortunately I don't have the dates , but , when "Star Tours" opened in Disneyland , up to it's first upgrade ( 2004?? ) , Paul was the voice of Rex the Robot , the autopilot that inadvertently commandeers the ride. ( He even incorporated Pee Wee Herman's "Huh huh" laugh into the spiel. ) 75.104.175.63 (talk) 09:51, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Penguin's father
[edit]- In Batman Returns, Reuben played Tucker Cobblepot, Penguin's father.
- In Gotham, Reuben played Elijah Van Dahl, Penguin's father.
- He should be credited as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.43.182.90 (talk) 14:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
Is Paul Reubens Related to the late Lucien Prival?
[edit]They are so similar in appearance it's . . . spooky. I can find nothing on the net to indicate any blood-relationship, but many have noticed the same thing. Anyone out there know anything?

I want to simply edit his filmography by adding in another TV show he had been in as its not in the TV show section in his filmography. Miss Izz15 (talk) 11:44, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Not done for now: You must make 10 edits and be registered on Wikipedia for 4 days before you can edit this page. Alternatively you can write the TV show here together with reliable source then other editors with access will simply add it. — Ammarpad (talk) 12:39, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
