BNF?

[edit]

Now that this page is semiprotected, would it still make sense to add a reference to Backus–Naur Form (BNF) as that page refers to this Pāṇini page? According to the history section of that page, the connection is so strong, BNF could as easily have been called Pāṇini Backus form. I (yes, just another drive by IP) was thinking about the See Also section here.

pronunciation of [paːɳɪnɪ]

[edit]

The first sentence offers [paːɳɪnɪ] for the pronunciation of the name in Devangari. But where's the accent? Shouldn't it be rendered either ['paːɳɪnɪ] or [paː'ɳɪnɪ] ? Omc (talk) 14:53, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Omc, Sanskrit doesn't really have pronounced accents. Syllable length replaces accents. — kashmīrī TALK 14:58, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Kashmiri It does have. Please see: Aṣṭādhyāyī : 1.2.29-31 Dyutis (talk) 07:22, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematical Structures in Panini's Ashtadhyayi

[edit]

Wiki links to some archive page of the paper "Mathematical Structures in Panini's Ashtadhyayi", and it doesn't seem to work. perhaps archive removed the file. XinYaanZyoy (talk) 20:30, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @XinYaanZyoy for raising this point. The page on archive.org appears to feature a review by the author himself praising his own work!
Furthermore, I find that that section was added in March 2021 shortly after the author worked on the archive page, which leads me to think this is self-promotion. I'm inclined to remove that section from the page; at the very least I'll delete the link, unless someone has an objection. Dyḗwsuh₃nus (talk) 22:47, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
