[edit]Should the title of this article be "Rakhaldas Banerjee" or "Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay"? The latter only is used in the text, without any explanation of where "Banerjee" comes from and how it applies. Askari Mark (Talk) 17:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: consensus to move the page, per the discussion below. R. D. Banerjee also gets over 4,000 hits on Google Books, and I am adding a new redirect from that spelling. Dekimasuよ! 20:20, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay → R. D. Banerji – Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay has just over 300 hits on GBooks, some with the Banerji name as well. R. D. Banerji has over 12,000, and he seems to have called himself Banerji when writing. Dougweller (talk) 16:44, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

- Comment WP:UCRN in print would certainly support the move but I'd be interested to know the name/s that he lived his life under. I certainly think its warranted to beef up the AKA reference in the first sentence and tend towards support Gregkaye ✍♪ 02:00, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Support per nom. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:57, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Support Even more than the gbooks hits count (which can be contaminated by other Banerji's), his Sahitya Akademi biography starts off as, "Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay (1885-1930), better known to his English readers as R. D. Banerji..." That's all we need. Abecedare (talk) 21:15, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Comment In the pre-independence era, Indians and especially Bengalis used to maintain two identities for pronunciation of their names. Thus, R. D. Banerji is the anglicized version of Rakhaldas Bandhopadhyay. However, for any Indian who have studied history a little he has always been Rakhaldas Bandhopadhyay as identified in subsequent documentations. However, such a move can be attributed to the now redundant policy of the former West Bengal Government which compulsorily changed the spellings of people who studied in government schools. Thus my surmise is they changed the names in the text too. DebashisMTalk 04:42, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

- Support Echo-ing what DebashishM told above, growing up in West Bengal I had no idea who RD Banerji would be, he was always known as Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay. When I first saw this move request, thought it would be a bogus one. But then, found out indeed he was more commonly known (at least to the readers of his English publications) as R.D. Banerji. I'd imagine that in his day-to-day life, for most purposes, he was known as Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay. In academic publications, he would be R.D. Banerji. I do not see any problem in the proposed move.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:46, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
