How many fights has he actually got?

[edit]

According to this article, Sherk has a total of 36 MMA fights on his record, but according to the UFC (http://73.ufc.com/) he has 38, while Sherdog.com has him at 34. cowwithbeans 23:14, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To add to the mess, Full Contact Fighter has him with 33. east.718 21:54, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, according to seansherk.com (http://seansherk.com/?page_id=3) his record is 35-2-1, w-l-d. It doesn't say it's his official site anywhere, but it has a contact link to Sean himself and is linked from Seans myspace page, so I figure it's official. Problem is, the last update to the front page was on July 4th, so it I'm not sure if it has the Franca win up there yet... I say wait for it to be updated in a few days and there's your source cowwithbeans 00:53, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
according to ufc 73 mma record he had 35 wins before he beat franca so it should be 36 which i just changed it to that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cnormoyle (talkcontribs)
The UFC is not a reliable source for fighter records. east.718 05:16, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He has 32 wins. The additional bouts (which is where 35 comes from) include his amateur (which don't count in your pro record).Thesaddestday 07:14, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know which ones in his MMA record table were amateur, cause he's got 37 bouts with 34 wins on there? cowwithbeans 00:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the amateur bouts and will double-check the table's accuracy Thesaddestday 01:10, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is he still the champion when he used steroids in the fight with Hermis Franca. The article is on the UFC website.

I made a mistake, he has 31 wins. The MMA record table is now 100% accurate according to pro fights. Thesaddestday 01:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The UFC is more credible than any other website when it comes to their own fighters. There's no proof of anything otherwise. MMAfan2007 21:51, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They regularly pad their fighters' records with amateur fights and exhibition fights like the ones on TUF. east.718 21:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)'[reply]

Do you have any proof? MMAfan2007 20:12, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

that cant be done to "professional" record, UFC would never sing a fighter who's only fought amateur fights, usually fighters have at least 10-15 matches. Also the fights on TUF are exhibition(Meaning the results do not have to be released as soon as the event is completed, if they would it'd ruin the show) Check the first season with Josh Koscheck he did not win it, losing to Diego Sanchez in the semis, but it didn't count against his record, His first lost was a couple of fights latter. The only TUF fights that count for a record are the ones on the Ultimate Finale show. Thats not how you pad a record, if you wanted to pad one, you would just give them really easy fighters to beat.

Well if you want a specific example... The UFC includes Diego's TUF fights in his record. Also, the UFC signed Marcio Cruz who at the time had 0 professional fights. Most guys don't automatcially fall in the 10-15 range, that's actually an arbitrary number if you look at the statistics. Furthermore, they have and will continue to sign guys without pro fights. This discussion seems to be moving towards a topic that would affect all MMA (or at least UFC fighter) articles. There was a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mixed_martial_arts#amateur_vs_professional_records concerning this topic, but nothing ended up at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mixed_martial_arts#Record describing what was agreed on. Maybe we can review the previous discussion and come up with something to include at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mixed_martial_arts#Record that can direct the project in the future. Steroid edits

[edit]

Moved steroids into own section - was buried and mixed under the section title "Champonship, controversy". Removed mention of supplements because that study did not find Nandrolone. I wanted to open this change up for discussion in case anyone had any comments. Moving this into its own section is consistent with how articles have been written for other pro athletes such as Floyd Landis. Also regarding removal of mention of the supplement study, if you read closely that study found testosterone and androstenedione, but not Nandrolone which is what is relevant here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CobbSalad (talkcontribs) 18:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The following statement, "According to UFC President Dana White, Sherk has passed a lie detector test that he did not knowingly take steroids." has an insufficient reference. The reference bears no mention to Dana White.

Suggested wording for September 25 results

[edit]

The source cited by Paralympiakos supports the "f--king robbed" statement, but does not directly support a characterization of "controversial". Based on this source, I would suggest changing the subject paragraph to read:

Sherk defeated Evan Dunham via split decision in a Fight of the Night bout on September 25, 2010 at UFC 119. Dana White would go on to state that Dunham was "f--king robbed" by the decision loss.[1]

This is only a suggestion for discussion. I am in not forcing this version and will back out of further discussion. However, further edit warring is not advised. -- Tom N (tcncv) talk/contrib 01:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
