20% of the State ??[edit]

I know the reference wrote, South-West is 20% of the area of the state. But 12,161 sq kilometres is closer to 17% (Cork 10.6%, Kerry 6.7%) --Jacobfrid (talk) 00:07, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If the source doesn't state the figure and we come to that figure ourselves its considered original research i'm afraid. Is there a way around it i actually don't know, but for verifiability and reliability purposes everything needs sourced. South-West Region → South-West Region, Ireland — This should be renamed to South-West Region, Ireland and the redirect should target Southwest, since there are multiple regions in the world with this name. It would then match the redirect Southwest Region. This is an excessively generic name. "Comment Mattinbgn naming conventions state that for places which have multiples such as South-West Region appears to have, a comma is used. If it was a novel or car for example called the South-West Region, then the brackets would apply. As far as i understand it the brackets are for disambiguating it from different topics - this one and similar named articles are all dealing with geographic localities so the comma is preferred as we only have to add the country at the end of it. If only a couple of the Ireland regions follow this naming convetion ("XXX Region, Ireland") then if this proposal goes ahead, won't it give rise to an inconsistency in style? Shouldn't readers expect uniformity in style? Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In terms of naming conventions, if there is an article that conflicts with the name of another article, in terms of places/localities, the next level-up place should be added to it - just look at Whitehead, County Antrim - the vast majority of Northern Ireland places don't state their county but in this instance it is needed as there is more than one place called Whitehead, for example Whitehead, Nova Scotia.
However the Southwest Cameroon and Burkino Faso articles appear to be named wrong - it shouldn't be in brackets - thats only for different topics on the same name such as Desertmartin and Desertmartin (parish). Mabuska (talk) 17:03, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
