first reference: http://www.egy.com/landmarks/07/08/97.shtml is now a 404. It probably should be removed. --JureCuhalev 17:11, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Link fixed. Ekem 14:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Picture?

[edit]

The photo on this page is of a different statue of Ramesses, not the one referred to in the text. does it realy belong here? --IdreamofJeanie (talk) 17:18, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

@IdreamofJeanie: The figure is correct but there are some mistakes in the text. The author mixed the limestone statue found in 1820 with the granite one found in 1882. Unfortunately, the provenience of both statues is the ancient Memphis near modern Mit Rahina. --RolandUnger (talk) 05:20, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I could be mistaken, but I believe the Colossus of Ramesses II is essentially a page about the same topic. Merge? WLU (t) (c) Wikipedia's rules:simple/complex 02:00, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree - duplication. There's useful information in both articles. I think the article should be under the title Statue of Ramesses II (Mit Rahina) as it is less ambiguous, given there are many colossal statues of Ramesses II. Chasuble (talk) 17:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually they were both found at Mit Rahina, as well as numerous other Ramses statues in the Egyptian Museum. This one isn't at Memphis right now so the article's title should be 'Standing Statue of Ramesses II' and the other should remain as 'Colossus of Ramesses II' 41.235.149.220 (talk) 12:53, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No Merge: Not a duplication. I moved the 10 m statue now under the Memphis section, for the time being, but it may need its own article. The Memphis statue was never broken, the 11 m Mit Rahina statue which is the topic of the article had been in Cairo after it had been repaired. Also, the second picture does not belong here. Oh, I see that now. This one has a big kettle on his head. So does anyone have a good reference for the one in Memphis? I'll take down the picture and the coordinates (which are for the open air museum where the picture is from). Wknight94 talk 02:20, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
