History

[edit]

Synapse Software was started by Ihor Wolosenko and Ken Grant in 1981. Ihor and Ken were both living in Berkeley but did not know each other until introduced by a San Francisco computer store clerk. The clerk suggested that they might want to meet since they had both recently bought an early home computer called the Atari 400. Ken who was IT director for a major bank had been doing mainframe programing for several years and had recently written some database programs for the TRS80 and later the Atari. Ihor saw commercial value in the program and suggested that they go into business. So a few months later with $1,500 and their first product, called "File Manager", they launched Synapse in Ihor's front living room. Their first products were packaged in zip lock bags, with a 5-1/4" diskette and instruction manual. The business soon outgrew Ihor's living room, then a house, and eventually moved into an office and warehouse in Richmond, just outside of Berkeley. Ihor headed development and Ken handled the finances and back office. Ihor steered the company towards games and this soon became the mainstay of the company's product line. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baliken (talkcontribs) 13:07, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Synsoft Redirect

[edit]

SynSoft redirects (or should) redirect here. It's not entirely clear whether the name originated with U.S. Gold (Synapse's UK distributors) or whether they simply used and manufactured it in the UK.

That's rather beside the point, which is that SynSoft is essentially a marketing name for Synapse Software games and I think it would be most helpful for it to redirect here. The U.S. Gold link was confusing, as that article doesn't even mention Synapse/Synsoft, and it doesn't warrant its own article.

I'll rephrase the reference to Synsoft to make this clearer (while avoiding stating as fact anything that isn't 100% clear). 82.41.119.223 (talk) 11:50, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
