The state of this article

[edit]

The article is of very poor encyclopaedic quality: its prose was littered with adjectives whose purpose was to boost the reputation of the school with no attempt to cite any of the claims made. It read and still reads like an advertising blurb. It needs to have numerous references added to back up its various claims, which if they are what they were claimed to be, mist surely be capable of being cited. If they cannot be cited, they should not be in the article. I have tagged some of them, but most of them could be tagged. This article needs to be improved quickly by anyone able to do so, otherwise it may suffer by being perceived mainly as advertisement copy for some recruitment scheme for pupils. Reading WP:V, WP:CITE, and WP:References would indicate just how much work this article needs to even reach an appropriate sub-level B status.  DDStretch  (talk) 23:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been updated greatly since the above comment in 2008 so I would be grateful if someone could please look over it again and update the page standings where appopriate. Many thanks.Qsprbm87 (talk) 15:36, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've now added citations for the alumnae and rewritten the prose in a Wikipedia style, sticking to facts and avoiding adjectives. Please can you remove the flags on this page. I have paper-based citations for all of the information in the History section, however this is only online via the website www.thequeensschool.co.uk. Should I add this citation or leave it? Please advise...

Reliable secondary sources would be preferable. Could I also suggest that you propose any further edits on this talk page rather than editing the article directly yourself. Theroadislong (talk) 19:17, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In future all edits will be made this way and references will be solid, many thanks for your help and support 81.159.165.158 (talk) 19:24, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes

Add to the list of alumnae on this page

Nikkimull (talk) 18:59, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

These lists should only display the names of people deemed notable, aka have Wikipedia entries of their own. Since there is not currently a Wikipedia article about Diane Beck, we should not add her name to the list yet. I am marking this edit request as declined, but feel free to submit other edit requests in the future. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed notable alumnae names

[edit]

Names that do not have independent reliable sources showing they are notable AND alumnae should not be listed. Usually notability is confirmed by a Wikilinked biography. If there is no linked biography then references may establish notability. Status as a former attendee may either be sourced in the linked article or through citations in this article. Editors restoring challenged names have the burden of providing references/links sufficient to confirm both notability and attendance.

Names removed and justification:

  • Sophie Rosa, Prize-winning violinist (reference is her personal website)
    • alumnae status not established, Queen's School is not mentioned in the referenced web cite.
    • notability seems possible but is not established by a single source that is not independent.

Gab4gab (talk) 09:48, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Georgie Okell, TV presenter
    • alumnae status not established, Queen's School is not mentioned in the referenced web page.
    • notability is in doubt. She does not have a Wikipedia biography and a single reference to a promotional bio at moneymanagementuk.com does not establish notability

Gab4gab (talk) 17:00, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Lindsay Skoll, Deputy Head of Mission in the British Embassy Moscow
    • alumnae status not established, Queen's School is not mentioned in the referenced web page, no Wikipedia biography
    • notability not established, no Wikipedia biography, reference is not independent, a deputy head of mission is not presumed to be notable

Queen's School, ChesterThe Queen's School, Chester – The proper name of this school is "The Queen's School, Chester". and it should be moved to a title with the definite article. "The" here pertains to "the School of The Queen" and not The School of the Queen (similar to the example at WP:The of The Crown. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 18:40, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
