TriplemaníaTriplemania – Per WP:UE: The choice between anglicized and local spellings should follow English-language usage. English-language reliable sources ([1] [2] [3] [4]...) most often refer to this event as Triplemania with no accent. Note that Category:Triplemanía and other articles and templates would also be affected by this proposed move. 162 etc. (talk) 21:29, 29 September 2021 (UTC)— Relisting. -- Calidum 16:24, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That clearly isn't the case, the first video I clicked on the announcer said correctly "triplman-EEE-a" not Anglicised "trippel-MAY-nya" so the announcers are aware that the accent is on the í. And Sports Illustrated has it Triplemanía in print. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:30, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose per ES MOS and consistent en.Wikipedia practice obviously low-MOS sports sources in the English-speaking world don't spell Spanish names or titles correctly. So what? Listing all those websites only shows us that websites have a lower ES MOS than we do. But this pointless comparison with US sports websites could be used to strip the title of every single Spanish title article on Wikipedia. Both nom and Roman have demonstrated that they don't know how en.wp works. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BTW some US sports blogs do include full Spanish accents, like "Just four days later, they appeared in Triplemanía XXIX to attack Mr. Iguana". So it is possible to write about wrestling and spell Spanish names correctly. Or are we aiming to be wrong? Also 162 are you proposing to go through all the articles mentioning this and strip out the Spanish í ? If it doesn't hurt in an article text body, what's the problem with seeing it in a title? In ictu oculi (talk) 15:26, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Triplemania is an international event, well known in the English-speaking world, and Triplemania IV-A was even held in Chicago. The event's name is obviously rendered as Triplemanía in the Spanish-speaking world, but since English-language orthography does not use accents or diacritics, it is most-commonly rendered in English as Triplemania.
As for pronunciation, many English speakers have learned how to properly say given names and surnames common to the Spanish-speaking world, even if the accent marks are not appended. Well-known food items, such as quinoa, are likewise most frequently pronounced properly. Thus, it is not surprising that Triplemania would be pronounced in its Spanish-language form by announcers, who were likely instructed beforehand, if such instruction was needed, as to how the name should sound. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 18:09, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This doesn't address my strong oppose on either A or B. A. Why this article? B. Why not article text body and from all related articles? - Why not strip Spanish accents from all Spanish titled articles. Do we think that Wrestling fans are particularly confused by Spanish accents on Spanish names? Then let's have an RFC on making Hispanic wrestling a non-Spanish zone on en.wp. I remember Roman that you were one of this in favour of diacritic stripping that one blonde Serbian tennis player's name. This RM looks just as divisive and culturally insensitive as what was done in that RM. So no, if you want to go Spanish-stripping names and titles make a case to do it wholesale, don't just target one article. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:35, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Each case is different and one size does not fit all. I am attempting to make the case at Talk:Sobibór (village)#Requested move 30 September 2021 that if the footballer Sócrates can be a standalone header despite the header for the philosopher Socrates (Talk:Sócrates#Requested move 28 August 2021), then the Polish villages Sobibór and Bełżec can have standalone headers despite the presence of headers for the WWII German Sobibor extermination camp and Belzec extermination camp, but there appears to be no consensus.
I am not against accents and diacritics and over 11 years ago I unilaterally moved Joanna Pacula to Joanna Pacuła since that is her on-screen billing in her native Polish films. On the other hand, Swedish-born Malin Akerman's career has been entirely in English-language cinema and therefore the header of her article should not be Malin Åkerman.
In cases of sportspeople, actors or other public figures who were born outside the English-speaking world, but have become citizens of an English-speaking country, do not use accents and diacritics and did not previously gain fame under their names with accents and diacritics, then such marks should not be used in the main title headers of their entries.
If geographical locations, films, plays, books, works of art or events, such as Triplemania, that originate outside the English-speaking world have an established English-language title, then the English-language form should appear in the header, otherwise the original form should be used. Since Wikipedia is consensus-based, there will always be inconsistencies and, in sparsely-attended RMs, a single vote makes a difference between a successful and an unsuccessful nomination, as in Talk:Annette Kellermann#Requested move 5 October 2020. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 17:20, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Firstly, it's not clear the common name in English omits the diacritic. The sources provided with the proposal do not appear high quality and the omission may be a result of careless proofreading. Secondly, WP:BROKE applies. The innocuous statement "Note that Category:Triplemanía and other articles and templates would also be affected by this proposed move" implies that all 39 pages in the category should be moved. I fail to see that this would achieve any benefit to readers. Triplemania is a redirect and many readers probably don't even notice the diacritic. Havelock Jones (talk) 11:08, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I think that most source don't include the diacritic because the writers have no diacritic in their keyboards or lazyness. --83.40.25.172 (talk) 11:06, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
