Rule of futile interposition[edit]

Can the rule of futile interposition be written more formally and mathematically? I find it a bit confusing in the way it is. --Zzo38 (talk) 05:25, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Does expression "and does not change all the rest moves of solution" fits? (my English may contain mistakes, please correct it if so).Shogiru (talk) 19:00, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[edit]

Not sure if the the first letter of the names of piece's should be capitalized unless they are begin a sentence or are a part of title, etc. In this this article, the k in king is both capitalized as not capitalized, even when they seemingly say the same thing. Inconsistent at best, and probably contrary to generally accpeted rules of capitalization - Marchjuly (talk) 21:35, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Classic problem diagram[edit]

This is a classic problem that does appear in many beginner's shogi books. The symbol used for the tokin (个) is rather old and may be confusing to somebody who has never seen it before. In fact, it's rarely used in Tsume shogi books these days, even when an example of this classic problem is given. Using the more common in this case is much better in my opinion.

Another problem is that the notation used in the caption does not match the diagram. In the diagram, the ranks are marked using kanji numerals which is consistent with how it is done in Japanese. The move order given in the caption, however, uses lowercase letters of the alphabet to mark the ranks which is often how it is done in English. Somebody who has seen this problem before or who is fairly familiar with shogi will have no problem with this, but somebody who has not will most likely be confused. This also should be corrected. - Marchjuly (talk) 21:50, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tsume shogiCheckmate in shogi – This article does not only cover mating problems, but the whole "checkmate" concept in shogi. --by Huhu9001 (talk) at 10:36, 12 December 2019 (UTC) Relisting. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:31, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure a page move is necessary if there are others ways to try and resolve the issues your mentioning. I do think there might be an over reliance on actual examples and instead they probably should be limited to some very basic ones and then perhaps some very well known historic ones. There could also be more content added about various awards or competitions related to tsume shogi problem solving and competition. Perhaps the Japanese Wikipedia article ja:詰将棋 could be used to find sources for such things—though I don't think the article necessarily has to be a "translation" of the Japanese Wikipedia article. It's the sections "Entering King", "Tactics" and "Fast checkmates" which seem to be the ones more related to "checkmate"; so, perhaps these can be moved/merged into other articles where they might fit better. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:18, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
