Critisism's Page?
[edit]Why does Mtv have a critisim section while Vh1 dos'nt? It seem vh1 is guilty of at least half the stuff in the Mtv article...
- I second that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.77.255 (talk) 16:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.250.130.215 (talk) 21:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC). Does anyone know what the abbr. VH1 stands for? If they do that could be useful for the page.--User:Damnedkingdom
- VH-1 stands for Video Hits One.
"Viewers of these programs show most interest in the comments of Michael Ian Black, Hal Sparks and Brad Holland." This looks like weasel words to me. Gritironskillet
VH1 was launched in 1985 not 1986. With the reference "four year old MTV" and the MTV article saying that MTV was launched in 1981 VH1 was launched in 1985. Any questions or comments feel free to send them to my talk page. Heegoop, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I think someone should write a little something on the VH1's growing number of countdown shows (i.e 100 most awesomely bad songs...ever, The most awesomely bad metal songs...ever)I know there is a few more but I cant think of them right now Lenore
The descriptions of the channels look like it was just copy and pasted from the VH1 website or something.--Richy 12:26, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
VH-1's DOG
[edit]It should be noted somewhere in the article that in 1991, VH-1 was the first national US television channel to use a permanent on-screen DOG (so that viewers wouldn't confuse it with MTV). All the other satellite channels followed suit, and nowadays even the terrestrial networks are branded in this way.
VH1 UK and The Crazy Frog
[edit]Is it really that important to mention VH1 UK not playing The Crazy Frog? Hardly seems relevant to me.
VH1 in Canada
[edit]Anyone know why VH1 isn't carried in Canada? Something to do with the CRTC? I miss VH1 :-( Mrtea (talk) 16:04, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Don't they have MuchMoreMusic up there? Different, but same. Drdr1989 01:24, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it's the CRTC. Instead, they allow MuchMoreMusic to cherry-pick the best of VH1's programming, many months later. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.183.51 (talk) 06:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
I love the 70s & 80s
[edit]I love the 70s aired before I love the 80s. I edited that in the article, if someone wants to clean up my wording that would be fantastic. -- mando 17:08, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, 80s aired before 70s on VH1. This is a VH1 article. Drdr1989 00:54, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
?
[edit]"Pop-Up" television has gone on to become something of a cultural phenomenon, yet created a powerful TV show with people going against this show and The Rock and Michael Jackson appearing on episodes of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, The Drew Carey Show, Brady Bunch reruns on sister Viacom channel Nick at Nite, and even a special episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Um.. huh? What does that even mean?
I Love the 60's?
[edit]I know Vh1 did air 'I love the 70's', 'I love the 80's' & 'I love the 90's' but never 'I love the 60's' has not been produced and aired yet.12.127.178.158 18:44, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Scorpions
[edit]Are def leapard , kiss legends and the Scorpions no? A 43 years old band with megahits like wind of change and rock you like a hurricane are not legends? Please the Scorpions is not a small band and as their music can still make 750000 people go to one of their great concerts i think that they can be compaired with Kiss and all the others that you call legands.Their 80+ million albums mean something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.131.155.191 (talk) 18:48, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Latin vandals?
[edit]Someone input into the Legends and Divas paragraphs mexican names such as Vicente Fernandez, El Chapo de Sinaloa and Paquita la del Barrio, there are no fundaments to keep them as long as very few latin artists were recognized by an american channel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.97.110.59 (talk) 23:08, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I Have Serious Doubts About The Accuracy Of This Article
[edit]Unfortunately, I only have my memory to go by, but I distinctly remember that when VH1 was brand new, it played all popular music, and in fact, /more/ popular music than MTV. Among my peers, VH1 was noted for being "better" than MTV. Then suddenly, the format changed completely.
The /speculation/ was that VH1 was actually a competitor that MTV's parent company bought out (as I recall, there was no indication that VH1 and MTV were owned by the same company, nor were they similar in any way besides showing videos in those early days), which led to the change in format. I came to this article to find out the truth, instead the article as written suggests that MTV's parent company created it, and that it was always the way it is now, which simply wasn't the case. I remember the early (Video Hits One) days of VH1 well - I was just too young to know any of the facts.
If somebody knows more, /please/ edit this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Akhan41 (talk • contribs) 07:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm just going to ramble and rant here. Okay, Liz Phair and Regina Spektor and like really hot women, but moving on, VH-1 used to have really, really good shows. When I was in high school, I'd wake up around 5 AM and watch VH-1's videos from 5 AM-ish to 7:30 AM-ish. Now, whether or not VH-1 was created by MTV Networks I can't answer. I only was aware of the channel in 1990 onwards. Shows like Sex Appeal/Sex Symbols used to be on, playing really sexy (say it like Borat) music videos. VH-1 also played the strange and unusual, like The Mummer's Dance or old Tears for Fears stuff, while playing the new. There was a daily countdown of current music videos, and Madonna always got her own week every year. And if MTV was afraid to play something, VH-1 would play it. VH-1 was exactly what the channel's names was: Video Hits First. (Yeah, let's see anybody remember that!) Of course, everybody loved Pop-Up Video, and I remember Insomniac Music Theater, which was the overnight. Everything this channel did revolved around music music music. So much so, that people my age at the time (The Target Demographic) were watching it and only watching Daria (you know, the "You're Standing on My Neck" chick) on MTV and nothing else. Of course, VH-1 then started two other channels, VH-1 Mega Hits (THE. BEST. CHANNEL. EVER. PERIOD.) and VH-1 Classic. VH-1 Mega Hits is long gone now. VH-1 used to air the strange and unusual. Like Tatu (is that how the girls spell it?) videos. Then one day, when I was 22, something clicked off about the channel. I was looking for something to watch when I came home from a late supper and, as usual, there wasn't anything I wanted to watch, so I tuned to VH-1, hoping to catch some music videos on. Instead, there was a "show" with a dart-board list (that means that topics or subjects are put on a dartboard, and the editors of a magazine or TV show just throw darts with numbers to see what gets what in a countdown, and, if you are a smart person, you'll NEVER respect "top tens" or "countdowns" because those are the opinions of nobody important in the world whatsoever, even lower than the Fascist bloc of the Wikipedians) that was making fun, with Greg Proops and other "experts", of the worst music videos. So it hit me: who are these people? I know Greg from Whose Line, but nowhere else. At the same time, I think the early "I Love the Decade" shows started, but I mean, Megyn Price, Donal Logue, Hal Sparks, and others were all well known people to some degree, but Greg Proops and these other "experts" are truly nobody. So, I started to belittle and criticize VH-1 heavily, for feeling betrayed. (I especially hate that they air movies now, too. That's stupid.) I'm tired of their dart-board lists, I'm tired of their celebreality bullshit shows. Since I worked at a TV station, I grabbed access to two things: advertising spot pricing from Viacom for cable channels, and the Neilsens. VH-1, MTV, and most cable channels are lucky if a show has ten viewers a week. On average, and this is confirmed by a Neilsen associate (though not anywhere I can cite it, so don't okay) that MTV and VH-1 have around 400 viewers during Prime Time a night on average. (That's on average. If something eventful is being covered, of fucking course the ratings are going to be higher.) The ad spot rates are a con. Viacom convinces companies that they have the "target demographic" for their wares and they but the time. Recently, MTV Networks posted a $1 billion profit from ad spot sales, but it's a sham. Strangely, MTV's sales agents don't share the Neilsen ratings with the buyers. Apple8800 (talk) 03:37, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- You are exactly right about MTV's buying one of their competitors and then starting VH1; glad I'm not the only one who remembers that. I don't have all the details, but Ted Turner was trying to launch a music channel with softer rock (though I never saw it anywhere). MTV bought them out, and within a couple of months as I remember, there was VH1 doing exactly the same thing. That really needs to be in the article, up front. I remember an article in the Wall Street Journal years ago about corporate stupidity and cannibalism over the years, with MTV starting VH1 given as the sole example of a smart idea by a corporation. I wrote a letter to the editor saying, no, that was just the same ol', same ol', but it wasn't published. Shocking Blue (talk) 13:11, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Anyone ever think VH1 MAYBE stands for Van Halen 1.......lol just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.58.249.223 (talk) 19:02, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- No, literally no one else thinks that... plus this isn't even the right place to ask such a thing, wikipedia isn't a social networking site, and it's talk pages are only for discussing editing the article at hand. Bumblebritches57 (talk) 23:29, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

- Just thought I'd leave a little note here for posterity: no rational person would read my edit - implying that VH1 reality TV franchises are evil and that they will soon trigger the apocalypse by birthing the Antichrist - and believe that it is real. It was a joke edit, and I was only surprised that it took the community so long to recognize it. It wasn't as if I was adding plausible but false information on Rush Limbaugh's quote page or something of that nature. Was this appropriate behavior from some one of my maturity? Probably not, but I did point out my own wrong doing and the admins oversight; in short, as the Heath Ledger Joker might have put it to Plastikspork and his friends "Why so serious?"--Dudeman5685 (talk) 01:51, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
VH1 Storytellers
[edit]Could someone please add at least a link to the VH1 Storytellers series? It is not even mentioned in the article yet! -- Kistano (talk) 02:05, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
We complete you!?!
[edit]I know it's not your fault Wikipedia, but what a terrible almost on the verge of evil slogan Vh1 has: "We complete you". Yeah! We really need you to complete us, because our life is so dull and insignificant without you, you old rehashed, has-been video show. Gee's what a slogan. Huh? I can't believe, that nobody has complained about it. Has anyone ever said anything about it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.149.116.43 (talk) 08:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC) ″
The Gossip Table
[edit]I'm not seeing an entry for VH1's The Gossip Table (http://www.vh1.com/celebrity/category/the-gossip-table/), and since the show is returning Monday 9/30 I was going to create an article. But I've not edited VH1-related articles before and I didn't know where to classify the program within the context of this article (which would be a logical starting point).— TAnthonyTalk 16:19, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]I see a "current era" section from 2003 and a list of shows. It's honestly impossible to tell what's even going on in this channel right now. I wanted to explain my edit, but wow is this article just a list of stuff. Kakurokuna (talk) 05:50, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
