Women's Championship - new article or repurpose this one?[edit]

With the reorganisation of the WSL, the WSL 2 will technically no longer exist. In its place is the new Women's Championship, which seems on first glance to simply be WSL2 rebranded - at least, that's how the media keep referring to it. The thing is, the actual evidence is that the Championship will be to a greater or lesser extent a whole new competition. Organisationally they may both be run by the FA but they have cut the Championship off from the old Super League branding, the WSL has been made professional-only whereas the Championship has not and there is no longer any promotion and relegation between the two leagues, except for where a Championship team may turn pro and apply to transfer (or potentially the opposite, I guess), whereas I believe there will still be promotion/relegation to the new Women's National League, which will be the level below. In many ways the Championship will be more related to levels below this than above.

I therefore wonder whether we should make a whole new article for the Women's Championship, and preserve this as a historical article about a discontinued division - similar to such articles as, say, Football League First Division and Football League Third Division North, or Athenian League and The Combination for that matter. @Number 57: My take on it was more that the removal of promotion and relegation, and the fact that clubs had to apply for places into it rather than the current clubs being automatically accepted, makes this a new iteration. , akin to the way that this article was kept as a separate article when this very article was first created. The top division will now be apparently known simply as FA Women's Super League and not WSL 1 anymore, so what should be done with FA Women's Super League and FA WSL 1 since both articles includes virtually identical content? Oppose. The proposed title is ambiguous and could refer to any number of women's championships, often titled "X Women's Championship" but usually referred to as "Women's Championship" in running text. I was going to make a list, but I think this should be sufficient. If it is necessary to drop the "FA", parenthetical disambiguation should be used, and "Women's Championship" should not redirect here at all; in fact, it didn't between 2009 and 2019. Comment: People seem to be getting very concerned with the specifics and not very concerned with finding solutions. I agree that the name "Women's Championship" is vague and could mean any of a number of things, but it's not like Wikipedia doesn't already have ways of dealing with this. How about, instead of just rejecting "Women's Championship", we propose an alternative: for example, "Women's Championship (English association football league)". It's not the optimal solution, but the alternative is preserving an obsolete name, which is not really a sensible option. Alternatively, how about we move it there anyway - since no-one has made an article using that name yet - and preface the article with some {{other}}, plus create a disambiguation article? tags Falastur2 ^Talk 08:55, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Move[edit]

This needs moving. The FA Women's Championship isn't its name. This is supposed to be factual and an encyclopaedia, not something that is incorrect on purpose. Why not just call The Empire State building article The Pepsi Empire State Building, or have an article on the Footlocker White House whilst we are at it?
