Benefits?

[edit]

I am not really a gamer, so perhaps this is obvious, but I could not tell from this entry, or the Kai website, why someone would benefit from using this type of application. I thought most gaming consoles these days come with internet WAN connectivity native, with free options to connect to friends or gaming networks. So is Kai faster? More cross-platform? Works with more games? Does it get around some sort of pay-to-play restrictions on game networks? I came across Kai because it is mentioned as one of the primary features of the DD-WRT wireless firmware, some info on that (and why other wireless firmwares do not support it, if they don't) would be helpful. Xbox live is not free. Without Kai the only way to connect to your friend's xbox was to go over xbox live. With Xlink Kai it looks to your xbox as if your friend brought his xbox round to your house and hooked it up directly to your xbox. So no need to pay xbox live. 82.109.222.194 (talk) 13:40, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, developers often drop Internet play support for old games. EA does this, so it leaves users with no option to play the game online, which is where Xlink Kai comes in. So this and free play are the two main benefits.--147.70.135.96 (talk) 01:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, some games have LAN play (system link) but not online, so you can play games like Halo 1 online, even though it does not have online. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.17.212.57 (talk) 17:00, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i see it's been a while since anyone's been on here..but now that the original xboxLive is offline for the original xbox, this service allows the entire xbox1 game collection to be played with others online... i know some xbox games are backwards compatible on the 360, but many are not...I'm looking for some of the hardcore gamers that still/ or would like to, play Steel Battlion online..so if anyone out there sees this and knows ppl that do, i'd like to hear about it here... Licence?

What is XLink Kai's licence? -83.151.195.33 (talk) 00:56, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable

[edit]

I can vouch for this being notable. Xbox Live is a huge and popular service, the Xbox is a popular console, the Xbox 360 is a popular console, and the xlink kai service emulated the entire thing very early in the history of the xbox platform. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.11.74.112 (talk) 21:40, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't how notability is determined on Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Notability. --Silver Edge (talk) 10:54, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a bunch independent sites that discuss xlink kai: [[1]] [[2]] [[3]] [[4]] [[5]] [[6]] [[7]] [[8]] 68.199.198.133 (talk) 05:04, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The first source you cite doesn't help because XLink Kai is only mentioned in the comments not in the main article. However the other sources you cite are sufficient to establish notability; so I am going to remove the notability banner. However, the other banners remain because you need to cite sources for the material in the article. Rusty Cashman (talk) 20:21, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
