This article is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
A fact from Xu Garden, Yangzhou appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 19 March 2024 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Xu Garden was created by community residents grateful to their local warlord?
Points for inclusion if better sourcing can be found[edit]
The Chinese Wiki page for Xu Baoshan states (without a source) that a building in the park serves as the ancestral hall for Xu's family. Include that in the article if a source can be found.
Similarly, the zh.wiki article for Slender West Lake says that it's now 0.6 ha and that there's an annual chrysanthemum festival in August.
DK Eyewitness China (and apparently only them on the entire internet) mention another structure in the garden is the "Pinyuan Lou" (??楼) with "views that supposedly demonstrate the rules of perspective as compiled by the Song artistGuo Xi." Presumably they misspelled something (?) but if the original Chinese could be found and the claim shown to be accurate, the guide itself could be used as a source. — LlywelynII 07:54, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Entranced98: What exactly is the problem with the Wikidata or automatically transcluded short description? (I wouldn't've done anything but the note before specifically said it was replacing the Wikidata description which was entirely needless.) — LlywelynII 11:51, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Only a few widely used infoboxes automatically transclude short descriptions from Wikidata itself into Wikipedia articles without the use of the {{Short description}} template. Since {{Infobox Chinese}} doesn't appear to be among these, the short description will only show up on the Wikipedia page if this additional template is added.
I cut the short description down a little to a custom one (rather than the verbatim Wikidata one) for the sake of brevity, which was why the edit summary for these changes (which was generated automatically by the Shortdesc helper tool) flagged it up as a replacement. I do agree that such summaries can be a little unclear on this front, but I hope that this clears things up. Please feel free to let me know if you have any more questions about this.
