The Toynbee-Herzog debate: I removed the description of Toynbee as "antisemitic" and in anticipation of anyone complaining, I will explain why. I did not know of any such debate when I read this article for the first time, but I know an unsupported and biased point of view when I see one. Having since read a bit about the background to the debate, and about Toynbee's argument that Israel is a "fossil civilisation", it is my personal opinion that Toynbee probably was antisemitic, but that's neither here nor there.

I am happy for a WP article to note that a British judge called David Irving "anti-Semitic and racist" as part of his finding in the Irving libel trial, but that's because it's a matter of public record. If somebody can find Toynbee being described in print by a reputable source as antisemitic, I will be happy to include it, but only in a context where we are establishing that Toynbee has been accused of antisemitism. In the meantime, it's not for us to indulge in name-calling. This is an encyclopedia, not a chat forum. Lexo (talk) 21:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
