Title change to Zhou Guanyu?

[edit]

He is using Zhou Guanyu from 2022 Formula 1 championship. --FungTzeLong (talk) 13:30, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched the official F1 pre-season testing video and the commentator called him Guanyu Zhou, so I'm not sure it's caught on if that's the case. Dāsānudāsa (talk) 11:19, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, time to move. The commentators will have to learn, in some other western languages the commentators already have. --Marbe166 (talk) 17:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Time to move on what grounds? I see no evidence (here or at WT:F1) that the common name has changed. What he is using or wants or official documents say is completely irrelevant if sources don't follow... SSSB (talk) 10:15, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Guanyu ZhouZhou Guanyu – It is of my reasoning that 'enough' media is now using this format to refer to them. [1] [2] [3] [4] In addition, official documents and the driver's own social medias also use this format. [5] [6] Certain commentators have also begun referring to the driver using this name format during broadcasts.

I personally feel the article is fine to be moved, as it seems highly likely sources going forward will be using this format.

I'm a lurker alright. BBC also published this march 10th Lucifer's Scribe (talk) 19:02, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment It's worth looking at WP:ZHNAME before making a decision. Nickin/talk 21:07, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The FIA refers to him as this, as well as the graphics on the F1 broadcast, the commentators, his team, his own social media and more. Whilst some reputable media companies still refer to him as Guanyu Zhou, all of the official sources say Zhou Guanyu, so it’s best to change. • Support. FIA/F1 and Zhou Guanyu's twitter reinforce this.

Tangentially, Zhou is the family name which is stated first for Chinese names. This is upheld for Chinese persons throughout wikipedia, with the exception of Chinese Americans who's names have conformed to Given Name before Family Name.

  • Support. Both the official FIA documents and the F1 broadcast have now consistently listed him as Zhou Guanyu. According to WP:ZHNAME, "it is standard practice in English to also present the family name first" for Wikipedia page of Chinese people, unless "for people whose Chinese name is familiar but with English ordering". Whilst the latter may be the case for now, it is clear that the FIA, F1 and Zhou himself are in consensus of changing that. Considering the wide audience of F1, in my opinion the latter will no longer be the case. Therefore, I support this request. Zhanghtsh (talk) 11:46, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. FIA documents, the F1 broadcast and his team all say Zhou Guanyu now, and it's what commentators and the media are calling him more and more, probably due to Sauber's media team asking them to - plus I'd say WP:ZHNAME overrides WP:COMMONNAME here, but maybe that needs a separate discussion. Are there any other pages that have had a similar issue? Dan pixelflow (talk) 19:07, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's time to move it. Island92 (talk) 15:39, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CCP party member?

[edit]

Does anyone know if he is a CCP party member? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:C400:93C:E85B:DBF:54B7:1166 (talk) 16:33, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is that relevant? He (like anyone else) has the right to a political opinion. If you can find a source of his political opinion, we can always add a sentence to his personal life section (anything more would be WP:UNDUE). SSSB (talk) 00:00, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty unlikely as he moved to UK at pretty young age it's impratical to join from a foreign country, which normally would require lengthy complicated processes alongside with lots of requirements. Also there are no propaganda on him, which is unlikely if he actually is a member. 133.130.115.111 (talk) 11:45, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
