The Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden is a diplomatic mission of Ukraine in Lidingö, Stockholm, Sweden.

Andrij Plachotnjuk has been the Ambassador since November 2020.[1]

History[edit]

In 1918-1919, the Ukrainian diplomatic mission, headed by Borys Bazhenov, operated in Stockholm. The mission was staffed by Secretary Vasyl Kosarenko-Kosarevich , Attaché Volodymyr Sukhovetsky, Attaché Oleksandr von Timrot, and Attaché Count Constance Russett. The mission was initially housed at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm at Södra Blasieholmshamnen, 8. The mission later moved to the Regina Hotel on Drottninggatan, 42-44. Regina Hotel in Stockholm(Sweden) From 1919 to 1921, the mission was led by Konstantin Lossky with it came the Mission Secretary Osip Maydanyuk. The mission moved to Drottninggatan, 83. On December 19, 1991, Sweden was the first Nordic country to recognize Ukraine's independence. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were re-established on January 13, 1992. In September 1992, the Swedish embassy in Kiev opened.

On May 31, 1994, the Diplomatic Mission of Ukraine, headed jointly by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, opened in Stockholm.

On February 11, 1999, Oleksandr Slipchenko presented the credentials of the first Ambassador of Ukraine with residence in Stockholm to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden .
