1 Beşiktaş qualified to represent Turkey in the 1957–58 European Cup. However, the Turkish Football Federation forgot to send their name for the draw on time and they were not able to play.

2 Olympiakos withdrew for political reasons.

3 To break the tie, a play-off game was played in Geneva, Switzerland where Nice won by 5-1.

4 To break the tie, a play-off game was played in Rome, Italy. After a 2-2 draw (aet), Zürich qualified on a coin toss.

5 Since the penalty shoot-out had not been introduced yet, Galatasaray qualified on a coin toss.

6 The game was played with empty stands.
