From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

X NINE (Chinese: X玖少年团; pinyin: X jiǔ shàonián tuán), also written as "XNINE", is a nine-member Chinese boy group formed by EE Media. All members participated in EE Media and SM Entertainment's joint idol survival TV program "X-FIRE" (Chinese: 燃烧吧少年), broadcasted on Zhejiang TV in 2015.[1] X NINE consist of members Zhao Lei, Chen Zexi, Xia Zhiguang, Peng Chuyue, Wu Jiacheng, Gu Jiacheng, Guo Zifan, Xiao Zhan, and Yan Xujia. The "X" in the group name represents infinite and unknown possibilities, while "玖" (pinyin: jiǔ) refers to the ancient Chinese folk legend "Nine sons of the dragon", each of the members personifying one of the nine sons. The group officially held their debut conference on September 28, 2016 with their first single "以己之名".[2][3]

History[edit]

2015-2016: Predebut, X-FIRE, Super Star Academy[edit]

X NINE was formed as a result of "X-FIRE", a Chinese idol survival program developed by EE Media and SM Entertainment that aimed to train a selection of 16 youths in preparation of forming a new idol boy group.[4][5] The show first aired on November 21, 2015 on Zhejiang TV, and ended on February 6, 2016. The nine members were eventually chosen out of the 16 youths on the show to become a part of the group.

After X-FIRE, X NINE members Xiao Zhan, Chen Zexi, Gu Jiacheng, Wu Jiacheng, Peng Chuyue, Guo Zifan, and Zhao Lei participated in the filming for Tencent Video and Meishang Cultural's superpower campus web-drama "Super Star Academy" (Chinese: 超星星学园), starring as the main cast.[1][6] The web-drama aired on September 29, 2016.

2016: Debut with "以己之名"[edit]

X NINE released their first single "以己之名" on September 24, 2016 and later held their debut conference on September 28. They released the follow-up singles "B.O.Y.S" and "永字八法" on November 9, 2016 and December 18, 2016 respectively.[1] All three singles were released as part of their first self-titled EP "X玖".

2017: "Be A Man", Shanghai Live Concert[edit]

On January 9, 2017, X NINE released their song "Be A Man", originally the theme song of "X-FIRE".[7][8]

On April 2, 2017, X NINE held their first solo concert, titled "以己之名", at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium.[9]

2018: "Keep Online", "Oh! My Emperor", Hangzhou Live Concert[edit]

X NINE switched companies to "Wajijiwa" (Chinese: 哇唧唧哇), whose CEO worked under EE Media.

On February 14, 2018, X NINE released the "YES" edition of their album "Keep Online".[10] They followed up with the "NO" edition of "Keep Online" on May 9, 2018. X NINE held a showcase for "Keep Online" on May 20.[10]

X NINE released a single called "我想给你" for their web-drama "Oh! My Emperor", which is the drama's theme song. "Oh! My Emperor" was broadcasted on April 25, 2018 on Tencent Video.[11]

X NINE members Xiao Zhan, Gu Jiacheng, Wu Jiacheng, and Peng Chuyue released a single for "Fights Break Spheres" (Chinese: 斗破苍穹), which is the drama's ending theme song. The four members also participated in filming the drama.

X NINE will be holding their second solo concert, titled "Keep Online", at the Yellow Dragon Sports Center in Hangzhou on October 4, 2018.
