BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:15, 1 November 2023 (UTC)- @BeanieFan11 you might want to check their talk page archives if you ever have time as most of their drafts have been declined, usually due to poor sourcing but you might be able to get them over the hump to accept. S0091 (talk) 16:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @S0091 Thanks, but I'm aware of all the declines of this IP (who seems to be the same as this IP which got me into AFC in the first place ) – I hadn't had time recently due to the WikiCup, but that just ended, so now I'll make sure to go through and accept the notable ones (I started a page to keep track of them here). BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:04, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11 yeah, thought this was the same editor. Glad you have these on your radar. Do you find they largely are notable or is it mixed bag? S0091 (talk) 17:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @S0091 I'd say about ~96% of NFL players are notable, but this user seems to specialize in players with very small amounts of games played and the 1987 replacement players (that year, the regular players went on strike, so all the teams played with hastily-assembled rosters of the best remaining guys they could find) – these are more of a toss-up in terms of notability – I'd say its around ~65–75% that can be demonstrated notable. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:29, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11 65-70% isn't bad. I wish this editor would communicate more though and act of some of the advice given. Note though, an editor who is now blocked set a 1 day archive so not sure they have been getting most of the messages under this new IP address. I removed the archiving yesterday. The other thing I will note for this editor's benefit is had they been editing under a registered account they by now would have access to the WP:Wikipedia Library thus access the Newspapers.com which is super helpful for finding sources for historical topics. The other option for them is to get access to historical newspapers from their local library. S0091 (talk) 17:56, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- I feel the same way about this IP editor. I'm confident they could spent just a little more time on the articles they create and have them accepted right off the bat. Instead, they just keep hitting re-submit or waiting for someone else to add references. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:39, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh: (rant about IP) – I'd like to see more communication from this IP too, but they kind of have to rely on others to add the sources because they don't have Newspapers.com access and about 95% of these players won't have online sources (in cases where there was online sources, the IP has tried to add them, see e.g. Al Wolden) – In the past, the IP has messaged me about the drafts, so it appears they create them with the assumption that I will later add the notability-giving sources – I haven't had time to recently due to the WikiCup but that just ended – now of course when I finally have the time to fix them the IP gets blocked...ugh. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:10, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

. Black Kite (talk) 08:58, 3 November 2023 (UTC)- IP 74.135.234.253, consider, rather than repeatedly re-submitting your drafts, messaging me on my talk page (like you did here) to inform me of their existence and I'll try to find the sources to move them to mainspace – would you be willing to do this solution? It could get you unblocked. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:15, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- There are many options to collaborate with editors willing to help like BeanieFan11, Scorpions1325 and others. You could message an individual editor as BeanieFan11 said or add a category like [[Category:Drafts about NFL players]], or a subpage could be setup to list drafts manually that others can watchlist or just post help request to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League. Also, I don't know if you know but if you created an account after six months you would possibly qualify for Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library access and could access historic sources via newspapers.com and others. KylieTastic (talk) 15:39, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- You can also try Google's newspapers archive. Here are the results for Braden Beck for example. It will be hit or miss but its free and worth a shot. S0091 (talk) 15:57, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Unblocked
[edit]Per the discussion at WP:AN, I have unblocked you; however, if you keep sending Drafts to AFC repeatedly after they have been rejected, you may be blocked again. Can I suggest (as User:BeanieFan11 has said above) that when you create a draft, you alert them instead of sending it to AFC? Then they can check it and help get it into shape to send to AFC for acceptance. This would help everyone greatly. Black Kite (talk) 15:37, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alright IP, you've been given another chance – use it wisely, as I'm not sure you'll get many more chances. PLEASE do not continually re-submit articles without making improvements. You've got options – you can leave me a message on my talk page to inform me of the drafts you create and I'll get them sourced if possible – or you can add your drafts to this page to keep track of them. You've got editors willing to work with you, but you can't continually re-submit the drafts – this could be your last chance. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:41, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- I created Category:Drafts about NFL players which you can add them to instead of re-submitting the drafts – I will monitor the category for any additions – you could also do some of the other suggestions as described above (like leaving me talk page messages). BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:59, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11 there's an issue as the category should not remain if the draft is accepted. For example, see Draft:Gregg Swartwoudt. The category should be in the bottom section rather than in the section with the categories that will remain if moved to mainspace but I am not sure how to make that happen because it is automatically added to the mainspace ones. S0091 (talk) 16:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- If {{WikiProject National Football League}} is added to the talk page, then the talk page is included in Category:Draft-Class National Football League articles which might be the better method to use (again using Draft talk:Gregg Swartwoudt for an example). S0091 (talk) 16:34, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- That'd work too – or I could just monitor the category and remove it from any articles that make it to mainspace. BeanieFan11 (talk) 14:59, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Black Kite the IP edited again today but did not respond. It could be because they did not know they needed to check their talk page. What do you think about blocking again with a note in the block notice stating they need to check here and respond? S0091 (talk) 20:20, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- S0091 To be fair they've only been editing mainspace articles so far. We'll know if they've read the notices if they continue doing what they were before. Black Kite (talk) 20:24, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Black Kite fair enough. S0091 (talk) 20:32, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Black Kite @BeanieFan11 unfortunately after what looked like a good start they just went back to doing the same but with 72.133.196.210. I left a warning but they continue to just submit and re-submit the same types of draft and not communicate. KylieTastic (talk) 15:49, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- @KylieTastic: I'm starting to wonder, do you think the IP ever got the original block notice and/or saw this discussion? (As if I remember correctly the IP did not make any edits from the point of the block through the point of the discussion which lead to the unblock) Maybe a reblock from draftspace with this same offer? BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:17, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11 I'm not familiar with how notices work for IPs as I've never done edited as one... can they really have not been aware of this? But yes I have no issue that if they are re-blocked from draft they can be unblocked as soon as they actually acknowledge the issue and agree not to submit any more player profiles to AfC with only stats links as sources and to not resubmit any draft with no changes. KylieTastic (talk) 18:09, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- I think maybe a restriction in the form of something like "maximum one AFC submission per draft unless non-statistical sources are added" would be better, as otherwise its effectively a ban on AFC submissions (as the vast majority of them won't have sources accessible to the IP). BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:56, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- They requested an unblocked under a different IP, User talk:24.209.152.112#Unblock and they have posted messages on User talk pages, here and here so they know talk pages exist and they contribute to WikiProject National Football League. Also, as far I am aware, only those using a mobile device have issues with getting notifications and none of their edits are flagged as mobile. S0091 (talk) 16:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- FWIW, I think those unblock requests they made were when they were blocked entirely from editing for a long time period; IIRC the IP did no editing during the duration of this partial block from draftspace, thus they may not have noticed it. Logging out myself, I'm not sure how one would be notified that their IP would have messages - (of course, my IP has no messages so I could just be wrong as its never happened to me). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:16, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
