Australian military
It seems a little odd that an American would go and delete "Australian military history articles". How would you like it if I went and deleted the "USA military history articles"? However, I am sure it was all done in good faith, will be waiting to hear a reply.--Collingwood26 (talk) 02:43, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- Can you provide me a link? That will certainly help me understand which category you are referring to, so that I can give you a good answer. --After Midnight 0001 16:07, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
MSU Interview
Dear After Midnight,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 04:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted
I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 15:20, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Highway on my plate
Can you specify why you had deleted the article "Highway on my Plate"? Other far less worthwhile shows have got their very own wiki entry and besides the show has garnered a notable fan following and deserves its own page. Samdtroubleshooter7 (talk) 18:15, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I have gone through my logs a little bit and can not find anything on this. Can you please provide a link or something that will help me find what you are referring to? If you can do this, I should be able to give you an answer to your question. --After Midnight 0001 15:41, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Page about Shampoo (Italian band)
Two years ago I had created a page about an Italian Beatles tribute band, called Shampoo. I would like to re-create it with new, updated and verifiable information, as I now possess their actual CD. I would like to reinstate the page because I think the band is a fine example of an Italian Beatles tribute band/cover band, although it was essentially born as a parody band. Please let me know. Ugo1970 (talk) 11:43, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have no opinion regarding your new article. --After Midnight 0001 12:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Use of Link
Hi, on a page I created a few days back (Hannah Louise Mickleburgh) this: WikiProject England was added on the talk page. I moved it to below the stub assessment today, then wondered how it had got to there in the first place. As the link was dead, I was advised to come its creator's talk page and ask; so here I am. Why/How was a dead link immediatedly inserted to the talk page of a new article? --Tropzax (talk) 20:26, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't believe I was the creator of that. Looking at the history, it appears I deleted it 5 years ago. --After Midnight 0001 12:01, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Your assistance please...
You deleted File:Ahmed Siddiqu, son of Aafia Siddiqui, in 2008.jpg under the authority of WP:CSD#F5. I'd like to use that image, under "fair use" on Ahmed Siddiqui (American youth).
What steps do you suggest would be next to see it restored? Geo Swan (talk) 17:15, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've restored the image, so you should be able to use it now. --After Midnight 0001 18:20, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Lamarfightingcardinal.gif
You deleted this, but it's now at File:Lu-logo.gif. I found it from the pufc templated located in this user page, which is transcluded into four pages.[1] And Lu-logo.gif is use on even more.[2] Not sure how you can keep the image from being uploaded into Wikipedia again. -- JeffreyBillings (talk) 04:19, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. The file which I deleted was not the same as what you are seeing now. What I deleted was a picture of Big Red wearing a jersey, which was only valid under fair use. The image which you are protesting now is claimed as public domain. If you feel that it does not qualify, I would suggest that you check out WP:PUF and try to make a case there (though I am not convinced you are correct). --After Midnight 0001 12:17, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Please see User_talk:VegaDark#Category:user_female which is related to you're deletion of Category:Wikipedians_by_gender oh so many years ago. John Vandenberg (chat) 08:55, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
- Understandably it is now at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2012 August 27#Category:Female Wikipedians. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:23, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
