Washington (Band)

I saw that the article about Washington, the Norwegian band, has been deleted by you. Washington_(band). Are there any specific reasons for that?

Out of the five criteria in the Wikipedia guidelines Washington fullfill three of them:

Has been featured in multiple non-trivial published works in reliable and reputable media (excludes school newspapers, personal blogs, etc.). Has had a hit on a national music chart in at least one large or medium-sized country.[1] Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster including several notable performers).

Although inactive in the last couple of years, Washington's on a major comeback now, and as there also is an artist called Megan Washington who performs under the moniker Washington in her territories (Australia, USA, the band Washington has Europe) it's even more important to have the article about Washington the band active to avoid misunderstandings. You say it fulfills the criteria. The article did not have any sources for this. All it had was a link to their own website and their myspace link (not even allowed under ELNO). Not having proper references and citations the editor that nominated it for speedy deletion was correct. If you had an account I would be willing to userfy it for you to work on. I'm from the band itself. I have registered as the user capitolchill on Wikipedia and I thought I was logged in when I posted this to you. The website is the official website, as is the Myspace account. We also have a twitter account now that should be added. The band did not create this wiki article, but we have referred to it on various occations. We would like to update the article with the latest correct info, but we're not entirely sure how it works. Is there a way to verify that we actually are the band and to make sure that the correct info is posted? Now we have another issue. You have just admitted to a conflict of interest. I understand your willingness to have correct information posted, but you should understand that you should not write on an article on your own band. As for any info posted, it is correct it it is properly sourced (it wasn't). Wikipedia does not go for facts but for verifiable facts. Yes, I'm aware of the conflict of interest. But as I said, we did not create the page, we're just interested that the page is up and running. Can I give you the list of correct websites and sources, then you can update the page as an editor? Then it's not from the band itself but a third party. Sorry, but I have plenty of unwritten articles in my To Do list. What I'll do is userfy it at User:Capitolchill/WashingtonBand so you can work on it. Just read the pages I linked above and also read about maintaining a neutral point of view. Once you are done and you checked it follows the rules, you can move it to mainspace, and put a request for the working page to be deleted by placing a {{db-userreq}} tag in the subpage. You have not posted a source for your edit before. This one seems to be a typo. Do you have any other reference to his middle name being the same as his last name? You have to be extra careful when posting about living persons. A change of name needs a reliable source. Sorry but your original post w'/o references whatsoever seems like vandalism, which unfortunately we get plenty of every day. The reference one you presented (and not in the article) does not satisfy this editor. Do you have any other ref? If you do I will retract the notices. As for my research (Google, Encyclopedia Britannica, El Grafico, and not a source but also as a personal follower of his career for almost 50 years, I have never heard of this), so please excuse me if I sound skeptical. i am willing to be corrected, and will readily accept a reliable set of sources. -- Alexf(talk) 20:44, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Indeed, I add the reference the minute before you reverted my edition. diff There isn't my fault his parents decided strangely to use part of the last name to create his middle name or that data remains relatively cover until now (Although I admit my unawareness of the biography rule.) My disposition is to collaborate and, unless there exists solid proofs against that, I shouldn't being cataloged as a vandal only because my editions "seems like vandalism, which unfortunately we get plenty of every day.".

Travelmax2000 page

I don't know who you are,nor do I care. But who the heck gives you the right to block pages without explaining to new users some guidelines and restrictions. I am just starting a new business and can barely navigate the web to put that into wiki. I am trying to show my customers I am willing to share my information and of course allow new ones to see what I do. I did have hyperlinks in there, but someone could have pointed out that was not allowed without destroying my work, and I would have removed them. I believe in karma(what goes around comes around). I wish I could see what comes back to you. Curious observation. If Wikipedia is free and without advertising, who pays you to determine content?

Mr. Downstairs

I was very dissappointed when you deleted my page about a new and upcoming band called Mr. Downstairs. I understand it is a band and the policy is not to make pages about bands, but it's not my band. That's the reason I had very little information about them. They started in late 2010 and haven't released any full songs yet. Why do thousands other bands get to be on Wikipedia but not this one? It simply isn't fair. I'm 16 years old and I am very passionate about this band and what they're doing with their music. I was so dissappointed when I went on their Facebook page and saw that they didn't get to see their first and only Wikipedia page. I and thousands of other fans would love to see this page up to see them have some recognition.

Mario, I understand you want people to know about it, but unfortunately that's not a good enough reason for inclusion in an encyclopedia. Past page deleted, trying to create new page for itsagoal

Hi, i'm trying to create a new page for a browser based management game called itsagoal. It's similar to hattrick which already has a wikipedia page. I noticed you deleted an old entry for this when i tried a search, so was hoping you could give me some information on how not to get it deleted this time. I've created what i thought was a draft version here User:Snakedrick/Itsagoal, but even this seems scheduled for deletion, which i don't understand as it isn't finished yet and was supposed to be just work in progress.

I did not delete that page but a redirect to an empty page in 2008. The original page you referred to was deleted previously (in 2007) by somebody else for copyright violation. The important issues for you to understand are the rules for notability for websites and general notability. All other rules and policies of course apply. Hi, I had PROD'ed the above article earlier today because I didn't realise I could CSD something that had existed for four days. I'm glad the option is available as until I tried to knock it into shape it was blatant advertising/PR hype.And after I'd knocked it into shape it was clear that there is little notability. I saw the PROD was removed by an IP. The case seems clear cut to me as a CSD nn musician as it does not seem to meet the notability requirements under WP:MUSIC. Now they can't remove it without a warning. If they want to defend it they should follow procedure, place a hangon tag and explain their reasoning with enough sources. -- Alexf(talk) 12:14, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
I've warned the IP anyway, due to the other maintenance tags that were removed without fixing anything. Handy to know about the period for CSD, though. Don't know why I thought it had to be more or less immediate (say, a day or so) - the relevant policy article doesn't say what I thought it did, so maybe I got it from a refused CSD sometime. Can I ask your opinion regarding the above user talk page? The guy is a minor celeb, has a major COI issue on an article about him but, in fairness, has not complained about me to go in there and de-POV it etc + sort out the cites. However, I now need to talk to him & his talk page seems to redirect to the article (his user page is actually an early version of the article). Dismas Fraternity

I appreciate that the article was deleted due to copyright. I'm new to creating a new article, but have made edits to existing articles in the past. I admit to not understanding how to insert citations to support the article. Also, to the point, much of the content came from one or two articles I wrote on the subject some time ago. In fact, whatever is out there in the English side (at least from the searches I've done) appears to have been sourced from my article.

Why was it marked for CSD? You'd have to ask the editor that did it. The original site clearly says: SHS Copyright © 2005 All Rights Reserved. As you well know we cannot accept copyrighted material. I have reference that Isaiah is the name of the actor who has worked as Saarang in the Indian 2010 movie Prince. here are references. He is a real Indian actor and is living. That article was not fake. He is a real Indian actor. RideShare Delaware

Good Morning,

A RideShare_Delaware I was creating was recently removed for (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion). I am new to wikipedia and this was the first page I have created. The page was about "RideShare Delaware" which is a free carpool service for Delaware. I am an employee of the program and was asked to make the page. We are a state and federally-funded non-profit, and are not trying to advertise on wikipedia.

I tried to write in the 3rd person and not include any promotional style sentences, but I admit it may have sounded biased. I also created an account with the username RideShareDE which I have learned since was not allowed. I just made my own account 'KevinSchultze' which is my own name.

Please let me know what steps I can take to re-create the page under my new username.

The article contained phrases like "Free Instant RideMatching" and "Guaranteed Ride Home", which sound like a press release or a marketing blurb, not an encyclopedia article. It is advertising even though the goods and services are not for profit. You say are an employee of the program, therefore you have a serious conflict of interest. You also say you have been asked to make the page. You seem not to understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place to market or inform about your organization's services. Having changed your username is a good thing, as the previous one was in blatant violation of the username rules. Unfortunately this does not constitute a free license to continue promoting your services. Please read the Business FAQ which will answer most of your questions. You ask what steps to take to re-create the page. None. If you read the FAQ pointed to here you'll understand. If the organization is notable, someone else will write about it. Alexf - I created an article for Chapman Field. I had to call it Chapman Field (Miami) because there already existed an article called Chapman Field. The original is a stub, a nothing thing. Please read WP:DAB. IMO I would create it as a disambiguation page then list both (any any other, e.g. Chapman University, Chapman To, Chapman code, and many more) in it. The page was deleted under Criteria for Speedy Deletion A7: "No explanation of the subject's significance". Specifically because it did not meet the notability requirements for bands. Importance indication question

Iñaki, it is not that the "given explanations were not important enough" but that the article did not have any reliable sources to assert notability. Wikipedia does not rate articles by importance but by the general notability guidelines. You have to show why the company merits an encyclopedia entry. The writing must be neutral, not read like an advertisement, and should be properly cited. If you are related to the company, you should also read about conflicts of interest. You cannot see deleted entries. It was an old deletion back in November I had to search for (over 2500 deletions ago). You are supposed to provide a redlink you know. In any case, it was a simple advertising-like one sentence by the company itself, a blatant Conflict of Interest that I hope you do not have. There is already an article on Acquia Drupal. Greek Primacy

Thanks for deleting the page on Greek Primacy. That page wasn't useful at all for research. I didn't have to find the cached page to get information on Greek Primacy and references for a term paper. It totally makes sense to delete a page of content when no other page has the same content. I am trying to create pages for Table Tennis information within Australia - which hasn't been done until now. I created the Table Tennis Australia page, the Table Tennis Victoria page and as i'm from Geelong Table Tennis, I created a page for that as well to work on the flow and structure of the multiple articals. I am working on getting more information for each page, but as I'm new to writing articals on Wikipedia, I spent a couple of hours last night before bed learning how to create the pages. By the time I got up this morning, one of the pages I created had been deleted :(

I have read also your guideline called "General notability guideline". I realized my page didn't highlighted enough what could match your criteria and how Mohn's was significant enough that he deserve his page.

Mohn is an ex Thai Boxing fighter and Master Thai Boxing trainer living in Hong Kong. First thing to mention is that there is very few documentation available in english as Thai Boxing is becoming famous since around 10 years now worlwide. I am now trying to get more document in thai language which I will have to translate Reference from Wikipedia : Interest in Muay Thai has risen in the past ten years, due to the popularity of martial arts in film and television

Since UFC, Muay Thai is really famous and very little documentation is available on fighter (most of them started very young and are not familiar with computer and Wiki...), and the idea of making his page was to help a recognized fighter and now trainer to have some data available in english.

Mohn was maybe the first Thai trainer to come and settle in Hong Kong to. I am sure he is the only one holding official certificate from the World Muay Thai Organization. Mohn also got some fight from major broadcasted event which are shown on youtube.

One important point is also to see that on the existint Muay Thai page from Wikipedia, no reference is made to the different, training program, degree, and muay thai body which are regulating Muay Thai. This something I was planning to write about at a later stage and it also explain that having a Master certificate like the one which is having Mohn is something pretty unique especially in an international environment like Hong Kong.

There is more references I can add to elaborate all these points, but I would like to understand if his page could have a chance to be put back online if I elaborate more my points.

The page was not bad as a stub but it did not have any (not even one) reference, citation or source to assert notability. Reliable sources do not have to be necessarily online ones, but it helps. In any case, any source must be verifiable. These days, any professional, in any professional sport has some online writeup, hopefully by accredited sports magazines or newspapers. I am sure you can find some to comply with the requirements. If you want, I could userfy the article for you to work on. But it needs work. I understand what you are saying. So, it predates the more famous Cisco Systems. The issue here was that the article was tagged for lack of assertion of notability on its own. Nothing to do at all with Cisco Systems or having a similar name. If you can show enough reliable sources and proper citations to show notability, I'd be willing to userfy the article for you. Hi! Let's review this edit 1. The problem is that you removed the source along with the rest of the text. It was hastily done, and very problematic 2. The thing is, the guy who boarded the passport was probably a foreigner. The idea that all except one of the pax was Argentine is very relevant. 3. I don't see the point you make. Where the pax boarded or if somebody used a passport does not mean anybody was a foreigner. I had also read the list of documents earlier today from SOL website and it is not relevant to WP, but maybe to their families and the authorities to identify the victims. Wikipedia does not care about the individual victims unless one was notable. The important facts for Wikipedia are details of the accident and how many casualties, not minutiae as we are not a news source.
"Where the pax boarded or if somebody used a passport does not mean anybody was a foreigner." - Where the pax boarded does not figure into this (all of the locations that the plane traveled to/from were within Argentina). The identity documents do figure into it. If you lived in the U.S., would you use a passport to identify yourself on a domestic flight? No, you would use your state ID. There would be no purpose of bringing a passport on a domestic trip.
Argentinians have their own national ID system, and the page showed the ID numbers of all of the passengers except for one, who used a passport (that man's passport number was shown, without indication of which country it is from). Typically someone uses a passport for ID if he/she travels abroad.
" Wikipedia does not care about the individual victims" - But it isn't a listing of names (which is discouraged on EN) - It is a listing of attributes and statistics which typically are covered (flight history (who boarded where), nationality, adult vs. child, etc) by Wikipedia articles.

OK. We agree to disagree. To me, unless there is confirmation of nationality, I can't assume one was a foreigner. I have traveled locally with a local passport and I was not a foreigner. The reason was explained in the Speedy Deletion notice in your Talk Page, so I do not understand how you can say it was a surprise or you do not know why it was removed. The notice was placed by the editor who tagged the article You did not follow up with a reason to contest the deletion. Please go and read the notice in detail. It does not matter that she "does exist and works" or that the article was untrue. That is all and well but not nearly enough. The deletion (reason: A7: No indication of importance) was because the article did not assert notability. Besides the notability rules for people, it must follow the requirements in: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. You listed a bunch of accomplishments and expositions. These are all unsourced claims. Wikipedia is not a place for a resume but an encyclopedia. If the person is not notable it cannot stay. -- Alexf(talk) 18:08, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

I wonder if you had read the many notices that editors left you when they tagged it for speedy deletion. I wonder why you did not act and explained yourself in the prescribed manner (explained in the aforementioned deletion notices). Just in case it was not clear, Wikipedians (all of us, you, me and everybody else) must abide by rules. There are rules for inclusion and notability. There are requirements for sources for every article, but more so for articles about living persons. They need reliable sources. Your article, did not have them. Deletion of page Forgotten Books

Hello,

As headlined, I'm messaging about the deletion of a page called Forgotten Books.

I'm new to Wiki and do not know masses about procedure but my argument is thus:

I disagree with the reason that the page was tagged for deletion (although I know it was not you who did the tagging) - It was claimed to be an advertisement and (although I kind of see where that came from) I do not believe that it was. It was a wiki page giving information about a commercial enterprise and as such services available were described - I fail to see how to give a full description of the business itself without doing this.

Secondly, I had posted a couple of messages in response to my page being tagged for speedy deletion. Asking for clarification, arguing my point and asking for any advice should the reader still not be convinced... I must admit I do rather resent the page being deleted without at least having a response to my messages

Please get back to me ASAP. Preferably agreeing wholeheartedly and exclaiming disbelief at how I could ever have been in any doubt - But at the very least un-deleting my page and sending it back to my user space so that it can be further worked on.

Writing about your own company or organization is a serious conflict of interest. To understand why you could read the FAQ for Organizations. It will help you understand the reasons. Writing about your own company, will almost always be marketing and promotion. If the company is notable somebody else will write about it. Hi Alex, I am definitely a newbie here on Wikipedia, and I've read the articles that you and Karl suggested...I revised the article to add several internal links (in one of them, Accanto is directly mentioned---does that help to establish notability?)

I can cite articles in trade publications where Accanto is featured. Does that contribute to notability?

Portal Argentina

A pair of days ago I noticed the issue at the Argentine Portal (my time is a little limited those days, and I tend to overlook the "technical" pages in my watchlist). I agree in that Bleff shouldn't have modified the Portal so much without proposing it first, but a mass reversal would just increase the conflict. I proposed some ideas to try to find a solution that we can all be satisfied with, see if you agree with some of them or if you want to discuss something. I will contact Bleff as well, to see again if he agrees to discuss the changes (however, I noticed that he has not edited since 3 days ago, so he may be busy) Cambalachero (talk) 02:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest but no thanks. As I said before, I quit Project Argentina. I spent way too many years and way too many hours with not one word of thanks from anybody for it. Instead what I got is what you saw, the total destruction of my work, and total silence from the other side. I would like to write some more choice comments on this but they would definitely qualify as POV, so I'll refrain. The Project and Portal for Argentina can get along without me.
