Welcome to Wikipedia!!!

Hello Ashadeofgrey! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. If you decide that you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Below are some recommended guidelines to facilitate your involvement. Finally, Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Happy Editing! -- Kukini 20:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Edit Summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. -- Funky Monkey  (talk)  23:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Dir en grey video releases

Hello, are you aware that due to your recent edits of these articles, some information in the infoboxes was lost? - Cyrus XIII 18:26, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I'll add the info in the main article in a few minutes - Ashadeofgrey 18:30, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
You mean the DVD infobox template? That would be great. Also it should be moved to "Infobox DVD" to be more in line with the Infobox Album and the Infobox Single. Regards - Cyrus XIII 18:36, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Infobox DVD

Can you please tell me why you moved the DVD infobox all over Wikipedia, and without even bothering to fix any double-redirects? I've just fixed all of them, but I didn't see a need for moving it in the first place. You also should know that music should not be capitalised unless other templates have it capitalised for some reason; that's something I don't actually know. jd || talk || 09:59, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Cyrus XIII made the first change, I the second as it is for music DVDs and it is true that other infobox templates have the noun capitalised (e.g. Template:Infobox album redirects to Template:Infobox Album). Sorry about that, and thanks for cleaning it up - Ashadeofgrey 10:05, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Extra tracklisting

It's meant to be used for the singles too. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 15:53, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

It's meant to be used in the Single infobox, but it's the chronology part of the Song infobox so it should be color coordinated--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 16:00, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok, but it can't be used on the Song infobox, becuase it's imposible that the same some is repeated on the same album, at least the song is on another album (check this). For that, we must use the Song infobox again...it would be fantastic if someone created an extra infobox for that, with all the fields except the band and the name song...
The extra choronology template only have the fields, prev, next, this track and album fields, so that's why it cannot be used on the Song infobox; we need a extra template (not yet created) with the fields length, label, etc.
The single infobox has all the song infobox fields except the Track listing, becuase it's used for SINGLES, not songs, so we must use the Extra chronology on the Single infobox and the clor must be khaki. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 17:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Have a look at the article you mentioned. How's that? (I also hope this shows my point about the color)--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 18:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Omg, look at this. Imaginary. The Song infobox alredy has the track listing option!!! OMG your getting on my nerves. Now look at Call Me When You're Sober, the colors are horrible! I've created a new template to complete the songs vith several versions. Please, stop changing the colors. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 18:37, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia is meant to be user friendy. The color of the extra tracklisting should be in line with the Song infobox, this is because singles go in a chronology and songs in order of track listing.--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 18:39, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
SONG INFOBOX ALREDY HAS THE TRACK LISTING OPTION!! Ok, Ok, I'm Gonna revert the color, but not to the Song Infobox color! I'm gonna put it to the red-like color. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 18:51, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Problem resolved. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 18:53, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
The problem is NOT resolved. The extra track listing is for singles where other songs (that weren't singles) exist. There is absolutely no need for that wierd color. The reason for this is simple. Before the template was created one would have to use the Song infobox; the single infobox didn't have a place for tracklistings. The template is a smalled version of that template, without the duplicate information that would have been present in articles before the template. I hope you change the color to Song infobox color as there is no reason to have it otherwise.--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 19:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Also the Manual of Style is to have track names in between "quotation marks"--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 19:04, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Why, God? !!!!!!! The song infobox alredy has that option!! The extra tracklsiting if used for the Single Infobox. Check this. A Hard Day's Night (song)
Ok, let's try this: are all the tracks in the {{Extra tracklisting}} singles?--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 19:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Extra tracklisting singles? You mean the singles that have the Extra tracklisting template? Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 19:30, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
No, there are three tracks that are shown if all the fields in the template are complete. Now are these three tracks (a) all singles (b) all songs (c) neither?--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 19:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't understand. Three tracks are shown yeah. The previous track on the album, the track wich we're refering and the next track on the album.
What is the point in this meaningless game, you know I'm right.--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 19:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Sry i really a don't understand you. Look, there's no need to put the song infobox color to the extra tracklisting template, becuase THE SONG INFOBOX ALREDY HAS THAT OPTION AND THE EXTRA TRACKLISTING TEMPLATE MUSN'T BE USED ON THE SONG INFOBOX. The single infobox color would be OK, but like someone said, it makes people get confused, so the color will be the one that has been used always, the actual color. THIS |||. That color was alredy in used on the template before I modified somethings. If you want me to put another color just show me and we'll discuss. And...i think there's no problem with the actual color becuase it were you who changed the pruple color to this color (example). Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 19:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I have changed the color in accordance with the song infobox color. The point I'm making is that the tracks (the three that you mentioned) are all songs, not singles and not something else. It therefore makes sense for header to be the same color as songs. Also when someone is going through the tracks it makes it easier because all they have to do is follow the same color. I hope this clears everything up--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 20:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I finally got you.

  • The color on the ExTr (used for singles) can be the same of the SongInfobox (becase ExTr is not used on Song I/b.). I though you wanted to put the Song i/b to the Extr template because you wanted to use the ExTr on the Song i/b. You had to said and resume everything, so i could have gotten you a long time ago. Well, w/e i got you, but you haven't changed any color. I'm gonna do it for you. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 20:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for archiving the King of Pop poll. I didn't mean to sound abrupt, but it gets done regularly and it ends up being quite pointless because we can never reach a consensus. The current agreement is for neither to be in the intro or lead. Thanks again, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 00:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

That's OK, I only raised the question because it was readded to the article--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 00:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Free image vs. Beat it video shot

Does it appear to you that Jackson has had a cleft chin inserted via implants on the left and right side, and not a dent put in his existing chin? In the bad video it looks like a fake dent but in the casual photo it appears to be an implant. Just speculation of course.--I'll bring the food 22:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

If I was going to be honest it might just be the lighting; but when you look at the two pictures on the MJ article ("Beat It" and the one from 1988) he doesn't look too different (apart from the skin, nose and chin).--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 23:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh and do you mean "Bad" or "Beat It"--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 23:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I mean the images you mentioned. Does the chin seem to have more to it to you? To me it seems to be bigger and more defined except for the dent which seems to be at the same distance from the lips as before. He doesn't just seem to have a dent in his previously existing chin, he seems to have a chin. Whereas before it's very pretty boyish after in the free pic it seems to be more defined (the bit around the chin is defined not just the dent is appearing) and more adult - at least to me. Very interesting guy isn't he?--I'll bring the food 23:13, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I totally agree (with both points). His chin does seem a lot more defined. He has to be one of the most interesting people ever. I feel sorry for him as well, becuase of his lack of a childhood and I enjoy his music a lot. One thing I'll never understand is where he gets ideas for the songs he makes. I would also have to agree with Bill Maher, I do think that people are accusing him of stuff because he has a big name; I don't think he's a child molester. I think the first case was just exploiting Jackson for his money (and somewhat unusual behaviour) and the second was exploiting the first case because it ended with an out-of-court settlement.--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 23:19, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Forget I mentioned Maher, he says some really stupid things--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 11:22, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I always found the child humanitarian side of him slightly weird when he actively continued to persue it post-1993, but I see he's stopped now so i'm encouraged by that. I don't think he did anything either but he's so not popular in the US anymore is he? I mean the man can do no right there. He's not stupid either, he's completely dropped that market which is a clever move. Did he recently say he wanted to make a Thriller sequel? that sounds encouraging.--I'll bring the food 00:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, he talked about the sequel on Access Hollywood. I'm glad that he isn't being seen with kids that aren't his own, he could do without. I get the feeling that he's going to live in Ireland, he gets a lot more support from Europe and the UK anyway. What are your thoughts of his inclusion of rap in his songs?--Ashadeofgrey (Talk) 00:22, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Extra tracklisting

Yeah, I think it's OK to delete it. It's useless now. And, you mean in which articles it has been used? Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 22:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

I've recently changed some of the coding. I was wondering if there are any other articles that use the "altAlbum" field in the {{Extra tracklisting}} template.--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 22:12, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Jack Richards

Hi. You put a notability tag on Jack Richards, the cricketer. Under WP:BIO, sports people who have represented an national professional side may be counted as notable: Richards has gone well beyond that by being an international sportsman in cricket, presenting his country eight times in Test matches. The phrase in WP:BIO reads: "Sportspeople/athletes/competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, or at the highest level in mainly amateur sports or other competitive activities that are themselves considered notable, including college sports in the United States." I think you'll agree Richards qualifies, even if it's a somewhat stubby Bio at present. Johnlp 23:51, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough.--AshadeofgreyTalk 17:40, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Ben Mitchell

Is this where I can reply to AShadeofgrey re: Ben Mitchell? As you can tell, this is new to me and I am doing my best to meet all guidelines. Ben Mitchell qualifies in at least one of the eligibility criteria:

4. Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country,3 reported in reliable sources.4

The sources references will go up asap. thankyou.

quotes

hi - I see you changed the quotation style from blockquote to c quote on Barack Obama - I'm not crazy about it (especially now when it appears with the template deletion warning each time), but that's just my personal preference and we'll see if others like it or not. But I see that some of the quotes are with a big double quote and some a big single and I couldn't figure out why in a quick look at the edit screen, so could you fix it to make them all consistent? WOuld it make sense for you to switch to Bquote that it looks like is not under threat of deletion? I'm not into this quote format stuff, as I said, so I don't know what the differences are, but if you do, please advise. Thanks Tvoz 17:38, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I've changed them back. I had no idea they'd be on TFD--AshadeofgreyTalk 17:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
thanks - Tvoz 20:27, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
but just curious: why were some single and some double quotes? Tvoz 21:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it's because in the one's that single quotation marks there were extra fields in the cquote template. This meant that I had to put a width and height size which rendered as a single quotation mark. In theory, though, this shouldn't happen.--AshadeofgreyTalk 21:14, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw that "20|20" but didn't understand what it meant. (And I still don't...) I think this is why I stick with blockquotes! Thanks Tvoz 21:39, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
The articles that I work on rarely need quotes so I usually do without. I just think it's better that Wikipedia has some similarities across it's articles (and the 20|20 is width|height of quotation marks) --AshadeofgreyTalk 21:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Tg-2000w.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tg-2000w.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Michael Jackson

Hello, can you explain why you think my edits were "POV"? I merely mentioned him as a candidate for the greatest selling artist of all time, which he is. So yeah, just basically explain why you think it's POV as opposed to my opinion that I am including a notable aspect about his career. Thanks!UberCryxic 22:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

It needs a source.--AshadeofgreyTalk 22:38, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

???? What exactly needs a source? I thought there was already one there, hence my additional (more like clarifying) comment. He has also won tons of awards claiming him as the greatest selling artist of all time, some mentioned in the article.UberCryxic 23:24, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

The source says that Bain says that 750 million units have been sold; there aren't many other people that have such sales figures for Michael Jackson.--AshadeofgreyTalk 23:41, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, in fact let me assure you right now that the Bain figure is complete bs and fully contrived out of his you know what. But there are plenty of sources (again, already in the article) that claim Michael Jackson as one of the greatest selling artists of all time. The Wikipedia article also already treats him as one of the top three best sellers of all time, alongisde the Beatles and Elvis.UberCryxic 02:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Michael Jackson Edits

Hello! I have a suggestion for you. Please stop editing valuable links on wikipedia pages. It's not only annoying, but it's rude. All the links on the page have to do with the artist or subject that they are posted for and none of them are objectionable. Every link posted to that article carries factual, credible information and photos that are solely related to the subject of the article. When you delete those links, you are destroying a link to very useful sources of information. Just because you have won Wikipedia awards for finding and posting "credible" information to sites that relate to Michael Jackson, doesn't make you the sole editor of Wikipedia.

Keep your mind on Michael Jackson or your own life, and leave the new Wikipedians alone. Thanks ahead of time for hopefully understanding. Just so you know... Those links will be replaced every time you edit them. Everyone has a right to put up links that relate to the topic, and you are not exclusively the one to "do so."

Hello, Ashadeofgrey!

I noticed that you have reverted another editor's contribution to the Michael Jackson article several times. Your last edit referenced a talk page discussion as your justification for the revert. I'm really not sure which talk page discussion you were referring to. There were multiple comments from editors who seemd to disagree with your POV that the genre of Jackson's music is exclusively R&B as opposed to Pop. It seems to me that both sides are valid and that the best way of ending your dispute is to include both genres, which is what I have done.

You may not realize it, but the individual you were repeatedly reverting appears to be a new-comer to Wikipedia. Please, be careful not to "bite" new contributors in this way. The fellow seemed to be making a good faith effort to discuss the matter with you on the article's talk page. Thanks! Cleo123 02:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bs-18t.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bs-18t.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Ubmh-mv.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ubmh-mv.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:22, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

No fair use rational on Image:Michael Jackson WMA.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Michael Jackson WMA.jpg, by Videmus Omnia (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Michael Jackson WMA.jpg is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Michael Jackson WMA.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Image:Michael Jackson WMA.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:38, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

George Mihaljevic

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article George Mihaljevic, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. B. Wolterding 17:12, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MichaelJackson-OffTheWall.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Save_Us 09:58, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tbolv...tbol.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Tbolv...tbol.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pfolder.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Pfolder.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Smooth Sax Tribute to Mariah Carey's Greatest Hits

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Smooth Sax Tribute to Mariah Carey's Greatest Hits, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Mdsummermsw (talk) 16:05, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Image:Ssttmcgh.jpg

I have tagged Image:Ssttmcgh.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. Thanks for uploading Image:Folkets Vilja.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Earth Song.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Earth Song.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
