Twinkle problem

Hi Bobby. The warning message with welcome note you left at User talk:98.227.117.30 using Twinkle had a problem in that the helpme template it includes in the message and the tildes in the instruction for placing a signature both were not nulled to display, but rather placed the helpme template and your signature, i.e., when it instructed to place the helpme template, instead of using {{tl|helpme}}, which displays as {{helpme}} it transcluded the actual template, and instead of displaying ~~~~, it showed your signature. I imagine this is either because the template Twinkle is using is brand new and not properly tested, or has been vandalized. Can you tell me the name of the template you placed? I know you are a new user so much of the above may not make sense (yet) but I am not saying you did anything wrong, I'm just trying to find out why Twinkle messed up here.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:40, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Weird. {{uw-vandalism1}} contains the first part of the text you posted but not the last part: "If you need any help feel free to type {{helpme}} and someone will assist you shortly after. Also remember to sign your posts on talk pages with "~~~~" (four tildes)" Do you perchance know where this add on comes from? Thanks.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:23, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
If you mean Twinkle I activated it on the Gadgets page.--Bobby122 (talk) 03:32, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, no, I meant that your post on the IP's talk page contains the above text which is not part of of the template you used, so Twinkle added it from somewhere (and it is in this text that the problem arose). I'll stop bothering you, I'll figure it out, or not.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:39, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you are saying. I added it in the more box on the warning popup window.--Bobby122 (talk) 03:45, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
Oooooh! Okay, now I get it. Okay, it's not a problem with Twinkle. For future reference, when you take text like this from somewhere, you have to take the code while in edit mode, instead of copying what you see in plain view, so that you get the nullifying material. If you look at this: {{helpme}} and this: ~~~~ in edit mode, you'll see how I produced the display of the template and the tildes without them showing the helpme template itself and producing my signature. If you just copy and paste what you see in read mode, you'll be posting the helpme template and your signature when you save. I hope that's clear. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:53, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 23:32, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

A little help

Could you possibly answer this question - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Oh-Ebashi_LPC_%26_Partners ?

Thank you! Xeinok (talk) 06:13, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

No problem!--Bobby122 (talk) 18:58, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi – thanks for your message. I uploaded this (and some other ticket scans) a number of years ago when I was unfamiliar with copyright restrictions. I believe that some form of non-free logo rationale (using {{Non-free use rationale}} and {{Non-free logo}}) may be acceptable, as used here on another ticket image. Please advise, and I will follow up. Thanks, Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 18:29, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi again. In answer to your questions – it is from my own collection, but I can't be sure of the original source, and likewise I don't think that copyright would have been released. I have established that the British Rail logo (bottom left of the ticket; i.e. this), at least, is still subject to copyright (of the Secretary of State for Transport, I believe). If it is not appropriate to list these ticket images with a non-free logo licence, I am happy for them to be deleted. Please let me know what steps I should take next, if any. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 18:59, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll use a variant of the wording used here, which was checked by another editor who was familiar with fair use rationales. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 19:36, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 00:05, 1 July 2010 (UTC) You have new message/s Hello. Cite button

Hello,

In the editing toolbar, there is a drop-down menu that says "Cite". Press it and use cite web (from the templates drop-down menu) for the NHC advisories and cite journal for the monthly review. Remember, you don't need all the fields filled in. Also, if you are using the same reference more than once, use named references for that.

If you have any more questions, Just ask me.

Hedge-Carpenter-Thompson Historic District

Hi,

You tagged Hedge-Carpenter-Thompson Historic District with {{wikify}}. I checked the article and saw no need for wikification so I've removed teh tag. Perhaps you can tell me what improvement you though was needed? Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 17:48, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I meant that it needs a little more information in the body of the article. I guess the wikify tag wasn't the appropriate one. Thanks for informing me,--Bobby122 Contact Me 18:51, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Oh. It's usual to mark an article as a stub when it requires expansion. In this particular case, the article already had a stub tag. -- Whpq (talk) 18:58, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for telling me.--Bobby122 Contact Me 19:00, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Jason Bay

You changed my Jason Bay comment, which is true. He has been pissing a lot of Mets fans off, with his constant strikeouts, and grounding into double plays. He strikes out close to once a game! And has grounded out into 5 double plays. He's awful. I suggest that my change stays. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.102.149.56 (talk) 05:26, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Octave 89

I have adrresed the comments at Hurricane Octave (1989). YE Tropical Cyclone 03:35, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Bobby122,

I'm concerned about an article that you recently passed as a Good Article and the quality of page. In just a brief skim over the article, I found several errors according to the MoS. Although I don't question your skill as a reviewer, I would prefer that you take a little more time in going over prose and style. Some of the mistakes that I found are likely not to be found by most reviewers, since I am an active part of WP:WPTC and focus on hurricane articles.

  • Lead
    • "Hurricane Octave was a Category 4 hurricane that affected California." - right off the start there are issues. No year context is given (although it's labeled in the title, it must also be restated in prose form). The way the sentence is structured leads the reader to think that it was a Category 4 hurricane when it impacted California when in actuality it was merely a remnant low.
    • "The remnants of Atlantic Tropical Depression Nine continued drifting westward, and entered the Pacific Ocean on the September 2." - No context given to where the system began; however it's stated in the article that the whole system originated near Africa on August 21.
    • "It strengthened into a tropical storm on September 10, thus earning the name Octave ." - Blatant disjointed period
    • "After reaching peak winds of 135 mph (215 km/h), Octave then moved into a region of cooler waters." - Awkward wording, After...then...
    • "Damage was minor, but it did delay the results of a cloud seeding, as well as three weak tornadoes." - This more goes to the author of the article rather than you but here, the information is incorrect. I personally did some work on the storm a while back and it did not delay a cloud seeding. The cloud seeding brought on the heavy rainfall associated with Octave's remnants.

These are just five of the issues I discovered in the lead alone. If you would like me to continue this re-assessment of the article and show other points of error, I will be happy to do so below.

I hope you find this as more of a learning experience rather than an offensive comment, I'm only trying to better the quality of the site.

Cheers, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 04:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Sure you can continue, I appreciate that you contacted me because this information will help me become a better reviewer in the future. As the reviewer of the article I would also be glad to fix the mistakes as per the guidlines. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 15:35, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
I have addressed these issues. I have removed the stuff about the cloud seeding in the lead, and the info about affect California. I have also given the article a copyedit. I am sorry if I should not have done this. YE Tropical Cyclone 17:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry. It's perfectly alright to edit your article to make it better and to adress concerns. Regards, Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 17:49, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, it just that a lot of people here dont like me at all. YE Tropical Cyclone 18:05, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Currently I don't change IP's as I am using a DSL modem that stays on 24/7. I did lose power once (that I know of) and when the modem came back on it was assigned a different IP.

In the past I was on dial-up and was assigned a new IP every time I called in.71.184.184.238 (talk) 13:13, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

ACC account request

Hello, I would like to confirm that I have made a request for an account to use the account creation request interface. Thank you for your consideration. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 04:52, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

You have a nice track record of editing however you have only been actively using this account for a few weeks. A longer period of activity is generally preferred when assessing requests to join account creation. As account creation is a first point of contact for people who make a request it is preferential that account creation team members are able to use their knowledge of policies to correctly assess requests for accounts and answer any questions that may be included with a request. The guide states 60 days for age of ones account. You do meet that requirement on a "letter of the law" but not the "spirit of the law". I would say at minimum give it until you have 60 days of active editing. delirious & lost~hugs~ 14:07, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't like not knowing and being unclear, but good help and information is rare and believe me, not having a manager is fine, but I'm always on the fence because good publicists go to school for journalism and media publicity. I am soo greatful, my friend.

I look forward to the changes whenever you get the time. There is absolutely NO rush.

Hi there, I'm new to wiki:) All the stuff I wrote into this profile is from one of the links from driverdb.com, which nowadays is very reputable website. Same goes for the other entry for Maxim Zimin. When I got a bit more time, I will add for more promising young winners.

hi

do I put lessthan'ref'greaterthan (link) greaterthan'ref'lessthan

for all my links, so they don't show up as url links on my wiki? and also, do I do this so that admins can check on the sources when they look?

is that right? Movingon55283 (talk) 06:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

You should go to "my preferences" and then go to the gadgets tab and select the "cite" gadget. After that you should be able to use it to cite sources. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 06:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

"work" "accesdate" "refname" and "refgroup" what are all these?

Movingon55283 (talk) 06:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Access date is the date that you retrieved the information. Refname is used so that you don't have to repeat the same citation over and over if you want to use it more than once. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 06:41, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

do you have any idea how I could begin references bloodlines? I've been fooling around with ancestry.com but not having any luck, thanks again for all your help

I am able to work on them the best I can for now, but even to my knowledge some of the best sources come from here on wiki

Movingon55283 (talk) 06:58, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, but you cannot cite Wikipedia as a source in a Wikipedia article per this. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 07:05, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I understand, I am working on that and it's hard, but in the meantime my wiki got deleted again for an A7 it's soo fast and everything with how I have to keep up so that it doesn't get deleted that I wonder how I am ever suppose to get some rest.

I'll plunge in for a while again to keep on referencing, I wanted to share though that Frank Inn is my Great Grandfather, I had stated that someones post about him on wiki was incorrect saying he has three daughters and one son and two daughters is the truth, Kathleen, Laurie (aka aunt green) and Ron.

I'll try to talk with this admin who deleted it over an A7 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movingon55283 (talkcontribs) 07:16, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

It seems that you may have a conflict of interest. Please read that link and also the links on your talk page. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 07:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I understand, I move that you check my first reference (1) under Frank Inn. -off the record, how do other people verify those things-

if my reference doesn't fit the policies, I will delete most of my biography which I cannot cite for today. Then, I will cite all my film works which can be easily done and upon reviewing everything we can come to a stopping point for tonight ( I understand that I may have to get rid of a lot of my content which I will later post with better references for the sake of Wikipedia ). I am hopeful that the film references will be a great asset to the knowledge of the readers which, hereby, under pretenses such as these are subject to false information sometimes. I want to give correct information, whether it benefits me or the wikipedia site I am a little uncertain as the line of certainty on how this can be divided. For now, again I state that I clear up any information that is potentially harmful to readers on the internet and we can finish tomorrow or at a soon later date.

This is really okay with me to lose some of my editing, because I know that my intentions are not to harm anybody and we can communicate a good structure for the content going under Nathan Anthony Carter someday soon. I hope to add to the wellness of the site. I really do.

Thanks for listening, I'm going to make those changes now to my filmography. I wait a few moments for you to review my statement about certain facts on Frank Inn. Until then I won't delete, but again plan to delete tonight and try for accuracy in the future on all my content.

Movingon55283 (talk) 07:32, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I know some of the information, like where the film was getting distributed and things like that are important for the general public I don't see how it can be Movingon55283 (talk) 07:34, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

But how do I change the reference numbers so that they are chronological later, or should I not make a point of that?

Movingon55283 (talk) 07:35, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I suggest that you start your article over by using the article creation wizard and seeing as how there is a conflict of interest policy states that it is better not to edit and request that another editor do the creation. You may want to contact a sysop to determine your best course of action. Bobby122 Contact Me (C) 07:41, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Does that work for you? I don't really want to leave information (because to my understanding almost everything nowadays is wiki'd) that is incorrect. So if I don't hear back from you in a few minutes, I am deleting everything that is uncited where you made cited marks which is most of my profile but I do that because it is in the path of getting only correct information out there to read.

thanks again for your help Movingon55283 (talk) 08:04, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

but I have been honest from this point on, I just have no way of citing it right now. Movingon55283 (talk) 08:09, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
