Talk:Zeitgeist[edit]

Hi there. I see you deleted the link I added to this page giving as the reason "spam". The link was not intended to promote the film - I added it because it will be helpful to people coming to Wikipedia to find information on the film "Zeitgeist - The Movie". IMO one of the main purposes of Wikipedia is to help people who are trying to find out about things, and another is to provide links that will enable them to learn more.

When I saw the film mentioned on a blog recently, I came to Wikipedia (as one does) to find out more. Upon discovering that the article about the film had been deleted, I found my way to the talk page, where there was a link identical to the one I posted. Following the link, I quickly decided the movie wasn't worth wasting my time on. Whoever posted that link probably saved me some time, for which I'm grateful. I get the impression that many people come to Wikipedia looking for information about the film. So hopefully you can see why I think it's a good idea for the link to be there. It is not a plea for the movie article to be restored, nor is it a discussion of the movie, nor is it inconveniencing anybody. It seems contrary to the spirit of Wikipedia to try and *prevent* people from finding out about stuff.

I've restored the link now. If you still think it should be deleted, would you mind telling me why? Here or on my talk page, either is fine. I would happily delete it myself, if it seems like there is a good reason to do so. Akiyama 15:18, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've read the comment you posted on my user page. Thanks. Akiyama 18:26, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I'm being too mean, but perhaps simply revert and explain on talk page? It'll look rather weird having 10 archived discussions on a talk page... -WarthogDemon 06:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully that'll work. I'm still keeping an eye out for any article creations. You want me to give you a heads up if I spot 'em? -WarthogDemon 18:24, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find it at first but now I have: how about the {{notaforum}} template? -WarthogDemon 22:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to let you know I struck out your comment at the IP they were trying to fix this. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 07:27, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't follow. AFAICT the user removed an entire infobox; the only change was that single continuous removal. I'm not assuming bad faith here, but I also don't see any indication that this destructive edit was an attempt to fix anything. After re-reading the template I left I feel that it is a fitting notice for the situation. --Jeremyb 07:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Airports[edit]

So i just need to put "|display=title" between the end bit, and the 2 end braces of the template?

Reedy Boy 17:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So "|display=inline,title" Reedy Boy 17:38, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gerard Way[edit]

How long had you semi-protected it for? I had to delete it and of course on restoring it had to add the protection back. I set it for two weeks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 09:48, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I had set it indefinitely... its a repeated anon ip vandalism target, if someone needs to edit it, signing up or requesting on the talk page is no big deal. Users have never gone to WP:RFPP to request unprotection either  ALKIVAR 20:39, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your comment on my talk page:

I agree it would be nice for Google Earth to pick up the airport coordinates, but if we recommend people use "display=inline, title" then we are back to the format that a lot of people disliked, with the coordinates displayed at the top right of the page and again in the infobox. I see there was already an earlier discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aviation/Infobox Airport#Google earth. Perhaps before recommending this in the documentation we should start a new discussion on that page or at Template talk:Infobox Airport? That discussion could include the possibility of removing the coordinates from the infobox and using {{coord|...|display=title}} instead. -- Zyxw 05:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will follow up on that in a while. I have left some examples of airports at Template talk:Coord#Using display=inline. If there is an agreement to have the coordinates at the top of the page all that needs to be done is change the line in the box to "display=title". It will disappear for the box and appear at the top of the page, see User:CambridgeBayWeather/Airports with no infobox 01. That would be the best way and then all the changes could be done with AWB. CambridgeBayWeather 07:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've been thinking about this and I agree the best solution is to display the coordinates in the title only. Since that appears directly above the infobox, displaying it again inside the infobox is redundant. It also makes for a cleaner look since the coordinates take up two lines in the infobox thanks to the new globe icon. I originally tried leaving the coordinates inside the infobox:
| coordinates  = {{Coord|49|27|16|N|002|06|46|E|type:airport|display=title}}

However, that caused that coordinates to appear in the small font size of the infobox text (which is made even smaller because the title area text uses font-size:85%):

Therefore, I believe the best solution is to move the {{Coord}} template outside the infobox. An abbreviated version of the template code from Paris Beauvais Tillé Airport follows:

{{Coord|49|27|16|N|002|06|46|E|type:airport|display=title}}
{{Infobox Airport
| name = Paris Beauvais Tillé Airport
| IATA = BVA
| ICAO = LFOB
| type = Public
| city-served = [[Paris]]
| coordinates  = <!--listed in title-->
... etc.

Of course, the coordinates parameter could also be left blank or omitted entirely. -- Zyxw 23:58, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I forgot to mention that using a title-only {{Coord}} template inside the infobox causes an empty box to be displayed next to "Coordinates" (see this edit for an example). -- Zyxw 00:27, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've just posted a rather long comment on this issue over at Template talk:Infobox Airport#Moving coordinates out of the infobox. -- Zyxw 08:01, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article assessment - Coronation Gulf[edit]

Hi. My method of thinking (being not too knowledgeable on the topic) when it comes to rating importance is to imagine that someone's come to my place and told me that he's going on a general Canadian quiz show, and that he'll give me half his winnings if I spend the day teaching him a much about what Wikipedia knows about Canada as possible. So the "top" things are the things I would cover first (Canada itself etc.) "high" would be the next things etc. "Low" would be the things that I wouldn't be likely to cover during the day. From what you've told me, it sounds like in terms of waterways or the north, the Gulf is very important but in the overall scheme of Canada, maybe not as much. Having said that, however, I'm more concerned about getting these articles assessed, and of course I cannot be an expert in everything. If you feel that something is more important than I have given it credit for, please change it and correct and my ignorance! Although having the article unassessed is the worst possible scenario, having a worthwhile article ignored because I tagged it of "low" priority is almost as bad! Cheers, CP 16:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lise Simms et al.[edit]

I believe the semi-protection template is a good tool to use against dynamic IPs. We can do nothing, and then just about every day revert the changes. Sometimes we can revert within minutes, other times it has been almost a day before someone reverted the edits. Blocking the IP usually doesn't help because the user only makes a limited number of posts, and then will be back with another IP in a day (sometimes under a day). Another option would be to block an IP range, but that is quite an extreme action that could affect thousands of innocent new users. The last option is to semi-protect, which protects the article. I believe these articles have been under attack for too long, and something needed to be done to protect them. Just look at the page histories, this has been going on for over half a year. It's hard to pick out the productive edits from the page history with all the IP edits and reverts. But, as you point out, there is a down side with semi-protection. The IP user could return, and move on to other articles where we may not catch them at first. So, I stand by my semi-protection as a measure to protect the articles, not as a measure to punish the IP user. If you disagree, feel free to unprotect the articles, and I won't revert you because I understand where you are coming from (and I won't be offended or anything). In the mean time, I'll research tools which can show edits from IP ranges in order to see if the IP returns to other articles.-Andrew c [talk] 17:33, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! :-) That was a good catch. If you have 5 seconds, the lead could use some work, I'm having writers block in that regard. GreenJoe 17:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a template for an HTML form using the "post" method[edit]

The page referenced in your question contains a form using the "post" method which sends the form input (i.e. the 4-letter aerodrome ID) via HTTP. Sometimes these forms will also work via the "get" method which passes the form input via the URL. An easy way to find out is to save the HTML source to your computer and edit it. First add <base href=" "> (with the original URL inside the quotes) at the top of the page so relative links (i.e. "/cgi-bin/Fore-obs/metar.cgi") will link to the original web site. Then search for <form and change method="post" to method="get" (some pages will have more than one form, in this particular case the line we want is <form method="get" action="/cgi-bin/Fore-obs/metar.cgi"). Now open the edited page in your browser, fill in the form input and click submit. If it works, the resulting page contains the URL that will need to be used in the Wikipedia template. In this case, the resulting URL was: http://www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca/cgi-bin/Fore-obs/metar.cgi?NoSession=NS_Inconnu&format=raw&Langue=anglais&Region=can&Stations=CYUL&Location= and since "&Location=" can be dropped from the URL, the code for your template would be: http://www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca/cgi-bin/Fore-obs/metar.cgi?NoSession=NS_Inconnu&format=raw&Langue=anglais&Region=can&Stations={{{1}}} -- Zyxw 21:47, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

White gold change[edit]

Hello. I'm trying to add a new article about the "White Gold: War in Paradise" game. So here's what I suggest :

- Make "White Gold" redirect to "White gold" - Move the "White Gold" content to "White Gold (movie)", I already created that page - Add a pointer to the new article in the disambiguation page

Each of the new regional/clan administrations are redrawing their own subdivisions, but I don't know of any maps available. The borders will likely change to reflect new regional realities, but of course the TFG does not recognize these new entities, nor any new subdivisions, and consider the old pre-1991 provinces as still being accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ingoman (talkcontribs) 15:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you removing the "see also" links? Please leave them in there or discuss why they should not be included. Thanks CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:17, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

The reason I deleted that sentence with the link from the Waddy Wachtel page was because it has absolutely nothing to do with the man's phenomenal musical career. Is Wikipedia becoming a gossip column? Would it be acceptable to include the names of everyone a musician has slept with as well? It's just silly. Hopefully, you can see that people who come to a musician's page want to read about their musical affiliations? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.10.167 (talkcontribs) 19:09, 10 September 2007

I saw your reply at Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous) and that you are using IE7. Just out of interest can you see the syllabics in the section header or do you get little boxes? The thing is I installed IE7 at work and can no longer edit syllabics with IE or Maxthon. Firefox is fine though. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 08:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer using Firefox. It does a better job of displaying fancy Unicode characters like these. That said, IE7 on Windows Vista does not seem to have a problem with it (Vista's out-of-the-box Unicode coverage is significantly more complete than XP's). I'm sure there are free fonts out there that would enable you to view these characters on IE7 on XP, perhaps with some help from Template:Unicode. —Remember the dot (talk) 08:09, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll give it try when I get back to work. I'm at home now and after I saw what IE7 did to the syllabics I didn't bother changing over, so I can see them fine. Someone turned on the automatic updates on the work computers and it caused several problems. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 08:14, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as far as automatic updates, you should understand that by disabling them you are making your computer(s) far less secure and several times decreasing their performance as well. For example, IE6 does not handle a certain kind of PNG transparency properly, so on Wikipedia we have to use a JavaScript workaround that slows IE6 down a bit. IE7 does not have this problem and should actually go a bit faster than IE6, on top of the benefit of significantly improved security features in IE7 compared to IE6. Other Windows updates that you're missing out on are the regular security updates. In short, these help keep your computer's security one step ahead of hackers/malicious users, and failing to install them would leave your computer vulnerable to attack. —Remember the dot (talk) 08:22, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The updates do get installed, just not automatically. The reason I turned them off at home is MS would also install non-MS updates. At one point with the updates turned on it installed newer drivers for the video card. Both monitors went blank and involved too much sillines to fix. With the auto update turned off but the notification turned on I can check when the message pops up. I can then get the MS updates and follow that up by going to the makers site for any other newer drivers that are available. It's easier that way to fix any problems that occur at home. At work there are only two of us at work that know anything about computers and what to do if an update causes problems. One of us is bound to be on a night shift within a day or two of the updates coming out and we can install them then. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 08:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just reading this. I guess in some cases it doesn't matter if they are on or off. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 08:59, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the extremely late reply. that only applies to updates of the Windows Update program itself. Windows Update won't install Windows patches if it is turned off, but it will still update itself so that it can know whether new patches are available or not. —Remember the dot (talk) 17:35, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Politics templates[edit]

Hi - I gave the current system a fair bit of thought before going ahead with it, but, honestly, what I ended up doing was dictated a lot by what I couldn't do; i.e. I actually tried to make a collapsible navbox sidebar with all the federal and provincial links, but after numerous tries, was unsuccessful. Hence, I split it in two so as to at least make the one long one into two shorter ones.

If you know how to make the navbox collapsible, do you think what I originally wanted to do would work? Or do you think two is still better? Further, I don't really understand what you mean to achieve by making an "infobox" that consists only of a map. --G2bambino 18:18, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking vandal[edit]

I have noticed that you have dealt with the overlinking vandal for a long time. I've tried page protection, but that isn't a feasible option on the long term, and runs the risk of the vandal moving to new articles unnoticed. So I am coming to you know to see what you would think of a month long range block of 216.76.248.xxx. It seems like all of the IPs come from this range, and I haven't seen any productive edits from the same range. Uninvolved new users affected by the range block can always request an account or an unblock. At a time I thought this was a little drastic, but the page histories of these articles have been destroyed by this user, and they sure are persistent and haven't gone away after months. What do you think? I'm copying this message to User:Acalamari as well.-Andrew c [talk] 22:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I believe I have set the range block. I have also posted a notice at AN. Here is what I did, I looked at mw:Help:Range blocks and determined what was the right CIDR suffix. Since the anon all had 216.76.248.xxx all in common, I only wanted to block the last 3 digits (0-255). SO the chart tells me I want /24 to be the suffix. So in the block form, I input 216.76.248.0/24. Does that make sense? Hope this helps, and thanks for your input.-Andrew c [talk] 23:19, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you like logical thinking?[edit]

The major problem with wikipedia is that people can take an argument right out from their ass and neither them or the majority of other users sees anything wrong with it. If wikipedia should have any credibility any argument post should follow the rules of logic and argumentation. If not that user should be informed of the rules of logic and argumentation and get a warning. Any other kind of arguments will lower the standards of wikipedia severly (as it is today).

I can totally agree that I didn't follow the proper procedures but you have to realize the major problem here. And that problem is that most of the people here don't know the proper way to argument. As in the Zeitgeist movie matter most users that voted for a Delete were using invalid arguments. Many of the users that voted for a keep also did that. Using an logical fallacy is like claming 1+1=7. You can't do that.

I also agree that I didn't express myself very well in the Zeitgeist discussion but I was so astonished by the poor level of discussion.

This have to change if wikipedia should have any credibility at all.

North Geomagnetic Pole[edit]

Hi! I read that you were the last person to edit the article "North Magnetic Pole". The paragraph about the North Geomagnetic Pole--that really needs some help. I'm pretty bright, but I didn't get the second line in, about the difference between the two.

It says:

As a first-order approximation, the Earth's magnetic field can be modelled as a simple dipole (like a bar magnet), tilted about 11° with respect to the Earth's rotation axis and centered at the Earth's centre.

The lay reader will have no idea what a first-order approximation is. I assume it means simply put. Is there a template for that kind of thing, something that mentions the use of jargon?

The residuals form the nondipole field.

The residuals of what? It doesn't, to me, seem to make sense, but it may actually make sense--I wouldn't know. But to the average reader, it seems like an odd construction.

The North and South Geomagnetic Poles are the antipodal [what?] points where the axis of this theoretical dipole intersects the Earth's surface. If the Earth's magnetic field were a perfect dipole then the field lines would be vertical at the Geomagnetic Poles, and they would therefore coincide with the Magnetic Poles. However, the approximation is in fact far from perfect, so in reality the Magnetic and Geomagnetic Poles lie some distance apart.

I think I'm getting it, a bit, at least, but it seems to need some expansion.

Any vadalism here?[edit]

[2], [3]

100's upon 100's of constructive edits. Then, after removing material placed on a talk page by an impersonator account, I got tagged as a sock then blocked. You're usually and I use the term lightly, level headed on here, so I thought you should take a look at those contribs. Whats the point of tagging a constructive editor as a sock puppet? Wouldn't it be easier on everyone to just let the account edit as much as he/she wants, until/unless they make vandalism edits or personal attacks? Thats what makes the most sense to me. Oh well, I have a different account up and running, and if that gets tagged, I'll have another one. I just want an account for the watchlist, if that wasn't a feature, I would just edit by IP. Oh well, cheers. Do you know if Quartet or Yankees is from Toronto? Thanks. 75.5.179.42 21:33, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How is this edit[4] constructive? "You don't just remove it because you have a stick up your ass. Don't let me catch you doing that again." These are constructive edits? Wikipedia policies, and in particular the No Personal Attacks policy are put in place for just this reason. The fact is you're a blocked user who intentionally evaded a block. You were blocked for 6 months in April for repeated personal attacks on numerous editors. A responsible Wikipedian with concern for this project would learn from being blocked and respect the decisions of the admin who enacted the block on your account (and note that numerous admins have blocked you - not one or two, making "admin abuse" a fruitless argument on your part). Yet, you continued to edit blatantly with total disregard for the community, especially the administrators of this community, and continue, even recently to attack other editors [5][6] [7][8] on their talk pages and through abusive edit summaries. This is not acceptable behaviour, and this is why I will continue to tag your accounts. It's a matter of principle (that and I don't appreciate being called homophobic slurs). For every constructive edit you've made to this project, there are just as many attacks on other users (Spellcast, myself) and administrators (Chaser, Ohnoitsjamie?, CambridgeBayWeather). This is simply not acceptable. --Quartet 22:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia contributions[edit]

Dear Cambridgeweather: I added an external link to the white tiger wikipedia to a website concerning white lions because it is a related topic, and also because their was already an internal link to the wikipedia article on white lions from the white tiger article. Also I did source things which I added to the Michael Coren wikipedia article. For example I stated that he has alternately claimed that his family "escaped" Poland shortly before the Holocaust and that they emigrated from Poland in the 1890s. That was all sourced and it was still removed. I gave the exact date on which he made the Tom Cruise remark, that Tom Cruise is not "an Oscar Wilde pussy", on his TV show, and that was still removed. He has compared Paul Martin and Pierre Trudeau to Hitler, on his TV show. That was also removed. He said that his father could not attend his wedding because he could'nt enter a catholic church without becoming ill, on Credo on Vision TV. That was also removed. The Michael Coren wikipedia article seems like a white wash. The article in which Michael Coren compared, or equated homosexuality to bestiality and necrophilia, appeared in the Sun, and was also sourced. Everything has been sourced. Michael Coren objected to the deportation of neo-Nazi Ernst Zundel on his TV show. He voiced his objection to masturbation on his TV show. Take care.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talkcontribs)

Hello. Referencing your comment on my Talk Page:

  • I was aware of the similarity in names and that both nomadic tribes were caribou hunters, but, like you, I couldn't find any web site that linked the two. Regarding Nunatamiut, I couldn't find significant information about them in their pre-Uummarmiut days. Regarding Nunamiut, I think it could use a disambiguation page for a different reason: check out Inupiat which makes a statement that Nunamiut is a generic term for inland Inupiaq caribou hunters, something I didn't put in the Nunamiut article as I was referencing a particular people living in the Anaktuvuk Pass region.Rosiestephenson 04:57, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm not the one who said Tete Blanche was the highest mountain on Baffin Island. white tiger wikipedia[edit]

Dear CambridgeBayWeather: I could'nt figure out how to contact the last person who deleted what I added to the white tiger article. I named the enzyme that reacts to temperature in the fur of white tigers and Siamese cats and this time I gave the Siamese cat wikipedia article as the source. Do you guys even bother to read anything before you delete it? Is any change to an existing article now considered vandalism? I have been accused of vandalism over and over again. Someone other than myself had previously added the name of the enzyme in question. It was'nt even me. I would have liked to have taken credit for that because the article was greatly improved by the addition of that detail, but you know what? It was deleted from the article within 24 hours and the article reverted to the previous less informative and less accurate version. I did'nt even add that piece of information it was somebody else for once. I put it back and sourced it as an experiment to see how long it would take one of you to delete a completely accurate and sourced piece of information, without which the article is less complete and less accurate. I have contributed to and improved too many wikipedia articles to count, but I can see that my time is being wasted. Even accurate sourced information, even sourced to another wikipedia article, is deleted within minutes. Obviously my time and effort would be better utilized elsewhere. Just for the record I have never put anything on a wikipedia article that was'nt 100% accurate. I have corrected more errors than I can remember. I can look at literally dozens of wikipedia articles large portions of which I wrote on all sorts of topics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:48, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

dear friend; the spelling is different; there is no concourse as to why with the Arabs it is "Fatimah" and with us it is "Fatima"; perhaps we should settle this the old fashioned way: convert to their spelling as it is the Daughter of Muhammed we are all talking about; the spelling we have here in the west is probably incorrect!

Cat Stevens[edit]

Hi - We have a return of "ROHA" - Hans Rosenthal - who comes in on different, but related IPs and reverts to his preferred wording repeatedly, regardless of what anyone else says. The issue at the moment is rendering the name "Yusuf Islam" in Arabic in the intro, which to me makes as much sense as rendering his birth name of Steven Demetre Georgiou in Greek would - that is, no sense. He is of Greek origin, but he is English. He is in no way Arabic. He converted to Islam, but so did Muhammed Ali and many others, and their names follow their nationality. He's an English Muslim: that doesn't call for an Arabic rendering of his name. And since his naming is complicated already, I'd like to not have it even more complicated by adding another language. Hans hasn't, in the past, respected consensus, so it's a waste of time negotiating with him I've found. (And his last edit summary was uncivil to boot, although somewhat incomprehensible.) I've asked in the past that he be blocked, but because it's a dynamic IP situation that hasn't been possible. Perhaps semi-protection on the article would be a good idea for a while - what do you think? Thanks Tvoz |talk 07:08, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism to "John A. Macdonald"[edit]

I'm posting this to you because you're an admin and have just dealt with the latest vandalism to "John A. Macdonald". Over the last couple of days, there's been a spate of vandalism to that article from IPs 142.29.135.3, 142.29.134.194, 142.29.135.4, and now (the edit you just reverted) 142.35.123.42, all of which (e.g. 142.35.123.42) are registered to British Columbia Systems Corporation (BCSC). Therefore I'd guess that the vandalism is by a BC government employee goofing off at work and abusing the work-facilities. I've left a "last warning" at the talkpage of 142.29.134.194, but not at the others because those pages were not already begun and everything points to a single vandal (or at least a single vandal-ring). Despite that warning, the vandal has struck again (the edit you just reverted), from a new IP.

I suppose that the easiest solution is to semi-protect the article for a while, but I'm thinking that a complaint to BCSC might be even more effective in putting a stop to this abuse. I'm not sure where in WP to take that idea, though, nor about how to proceed with it. I could just email BCSC myself, but I'm thinking that some official contact from Wikipedia might carry more weight. I'm hoping that you can advise on this matter, or perhaps take care of it yourself.

I hope to hear back from you about this soon. Thanks in advance and best regards,

Edit counts[edit]

I'd thought that it might be a case of undeletion and redeletion of the user's userspace, where a good portion of the deleted edits are, but I'm forced to conclude that you're right - there is something funny about the current set of numbers. I didn't find anything in any of the relevant deletion logs that could account for this. I'll continue to reflect on it, but I'm not sure it's worth that much of our Wikipedia time. I'll strike my comment from the MfD as that's clearly not what's going on here. Dekimasu?! 13:26, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additions to Barrow_Alaska entry[edit]

Hello. Your additions/changes to the Barrow page were great, and much appreciated. I do have a problem with one set, which I'll eventually either revert or edit out all together. It does need editing, but in a different way. In the section on "Climate" you made changes to a blockquoted section. It's a quote from an "authoritative" site, and should not be arbitrarily edited for any reason! However, there is no attribution for the blockquote and it perhaps was not obvious that it was a quote! I hadn't yet figured out exactly where it came from (but have now found it), and wasn't ready to edit it yet myself. Why is Tim's death not notable, when he is notable enough to be in the Ducks Deluxe entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hawkbeard (talkcontribs) 09:16, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Roper death details[edit]

Hello. I added some facts to the Ducks Deluxe entry, concerning their original drummer, Tim Roper, who lost contact with his London friends, and moved to Norwich. He died in 2003. I thought that it would be good if this was mentioned on their Wiki page, and after a couple of failed attempts, it appeared. Now, it seems that you have taken it down. I would like to know why? How can it be reinstated? Thanks, Hawkbeard —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hawkbeard (talkcontribs) 11:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helmut Ghose[edit]

Excuse me sir, but you deleted Helmut Ghose's article. Do you know how famous and important he is in and for Austria? Not all articles are biographical and if you are a serious editor, then you should do your research first. Please feel free to contact me in the ministry of legal affairs in Vienna under "removed". We expect you to list the article again as soon as possible. Thank you for your help. Update on the overlinking vandal[edit]

The rangeblock of the overlinking vandal expired two days ago. Last night, they returned from 216.76.248.27 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), and then the vandal continued from 2 other address, 216.76.248.137 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), 216.76.248.95 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). Each time, I tried to communicate with the person. However, I ended up going a bit "rogue" and rangeblocking the same range again for 3 months this time. I'd like to invite you (and anyone else for that matter) to review this action. I'm totally willing to undo any portion of my block if others feel it is necessary. There is a little bit of conversation pertaining to this at the bottom of my talk page. Hope all is well with you, and thanks for your consideration.-Andrew c [talk] 16:39, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FormMail deletion[edit]

Hi. I just noticed that you deleted FormMail at 10:47 on 2007-04-06, with the rationale, "Prod:Doesn't appear to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability." I'm curious at how you arrived at that conclusion. First of all, this script has an important part to play in the early history of the World Wide Web as it was, at one time, one of the most popular scripts in use. Second of all, a quick search of Google Books shows numerous reliable sources. —Viriditas | Talk 14:28, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Graph change[edit]

If I may ask why did you change the gragh. I find that we should use the one I uploaded for it is more updated, accurate and easier to read. I apologize for not informing people before changing the page for i am quite new to wikipedia. I also wanted to ask if you think that making the charter airlines into a table is unnecessary . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Loughrey13 (talkcontribs) 18:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

White Tiger[edit]

I removed the link from the white tiger wikipedia article to bigcatrescue because their article "The White Tiger Fraud" is extremely inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:18, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

White Tiger[edit]

I added a line to the article saying that "Because of selective breeding only a few of the oldest white tigers in the Hawthorn Circus are cross eyed". It has already been deleted once. My source for this information was John Cuneo, the owner of the Hawthorn Circus. I can't figure out how to contact the person who deleted it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:27, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

white tiger[edit]

I just spent an hour and a half sourcing everything in the white tiger article and "Oda Mari" just deleted it all. I don't know how to contact this person, but I don't think it matters because I'm through doing all of this free work for wikipedia which is promptly deleted. What's the point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

white tiger[edit]

I've just been all over the place trying to leave a message for Oda Mari. I am so angry and frustrated. I thought you guys wanted everything sourced and after I spent an hour and a half of my personal time working on that it all got deleted. What's the point? There was a note encouraging people to source the damn thing. I was doing that. I had nearly finished sourcing it all when it disappeared before my eyes. It has a bibliography, and yet you say it's unsourced. You know what ? Just delete the whole thing. I don't care anymore. I've written at least 90% of it so just delete the entire article. I'm sure it will come back in the form of a single paragraph which says nothing. I have better things to do with my time. You people do more damage than any vandal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 16:03, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really sorry for my edit. Please for give me. I think I was tired and my brain did not work well. Oda Mari (talk) 04:31, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

white tiger[edit]

Pederson/Pedersen[edit]

No problem; I'm always happy to help. I couldn't get a for-certain spelling on it (the GNWT is even in conflict with itself on the spelling [14], [15], but from the sources I checked, it seems most often to be with an O; this is the case from most new agencies as well. -YK Timestalk 21:26, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kugluktuk, Nunavut[edit]

Thank you for contacting me regarding your interesting identity questions about "Lena Pedersen" whom you noticed as the author of one of the articles I added to the Further Reading section of Kugluktuk, Nunavut article. First, I wasn't able to establish a link (yet) with Red Pedersen but I'll continue to do some digging. But, I think you are right that Lena Pederson is "Lena Pedersen". Even though there are External Links on the Lena Pederson article with the "Pederson" spelling, I think the wiki article is misspelled for these reasons:

Also, "Pederson" is an unusual/ambiguous surname. A case can be made for the fact that Lena is from Greenland, a part of Denmark, where the customary Danish spelling of that surname is "Pedersen". "Peterson" is the British spelling of the same surname. As a separate issue, the Lena Pederson article would benefit from some copyedit. Rosiestephenson 21:45, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Email Response[edit]

Your low-grade performance upon the review of email sent you is no basis for me to grant acceptance of an apology. Moreover, your own statement of the reason for blocking my editor account uses the word *may*, and as I have already pointed out to El_C, *may* does not mean *must*. You are either incompetent with English, or you lied in your post to my talk page. Which is it? William R. Buckley 00:30, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lena and Red[edit]

Hi CambridgeBay, thats a very good question, I actually never thought about the possible connection, I will take a look at the sources tomorrow and see what I can find.--Cloveious 07:22, 28 October 2007

One other thing I have noticed with a lot of older northern politicians and probably just northerners in general is that their last names tend to have very loose rules on spelling and change over time, I have noticed this is common among people who previously had disc numbers. I have run into this sort of problem before, on official election returns some of these people have different spellings from election to election for example --Cloveious 08:28, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CambridgeBay. Found a possible link between Lena Pederson and Red Pedersen. See this on Red and this on Lena, placing both of them in Coppermine, Pangnirtung and Rae during the same time period. Rosiestephenson 20:01, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And seeking your feedback on the Red Pedersen talk page regarding his name. Thank you. Rosiestephenson 20:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well for all the looking I did, I didn't see this one before you forwarded it. Thanks! I'll weave it into the Red article later today unless you do so before I get to it. I'm not aware about a link between Red and C.T. Pedersen, but he may be a relative whose travel stories or business connections induced Red to leave Denmark at age 18 and move to the NWT; don't know. Keke Wyatt - scroll boxes and fair use album covers[edit]

I re-added the scroll boxes as they do not violate wikipedia formating in any way. Furthermore, they enhance the usability of the page. I red-added the album cover images because the fair use rationale for each file included terms for use in the Keke Wyatt article. 74.167.228.199 00:38, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

white tiger[edit]

I was doing some more work on the article and I noticed that somebody wrote that the Crandon Park Zoo is now the Metro-Miami Zoo. This is not true. The Crandon Park Zoo closed. Crandon Park still exists and one of the last times that O.J. Simpson was in the news he was shown at the Crandon Park golf course. The Crandon Park Zoo closed and was moved to it's new site which is now the Metro-Miami Zoo, but it's not the same zoo. Thank you for all the work you did on the bibliography.

Neotome magister[edit]

you mind helping me out just a bit more? the original article was barely a stub - Neotoma magister; i wanted to re-title it to the common name (but spaced on how to move it) so i just cut n paste it to Allegheny Woodrat (formerly a redirect, i believe). then, noticing that standard for the articles of Mammal species was to use lowercase except where appropriate, so i cut and paste Allegheny Woodrat to Allegheny woodrat. yeah. - Metanoid (talk, email) 23:21, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

white tiger[edit]

It appears that a source is needed right after the claim that white tigers have been sold to drug lords. I found this, but I'm not sure how to source it: www.banderasnews.com/0506/nw-smuggling-htm I think that might be the last thing that requires sourcing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:07, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

White Tiger[edit]

Thank you again. There's a part in the article where I mentioned that Eisenhower was also given a rare pygmy hippo in 1960 (besides the white tiger) and I saw it is linked to another wikipedia article about pygmy hippos. It does'nt say anything about pygmy hippos from Madagascar so I inserted a line and created a link to the wikipedia article "Malagasy Hippopotamus". There's another article on wikipedia titled "Billy (pygmy hippo)" about another pygmy hippo, besides the one I mentioned in the white tiger article, which was given to an American President, which also went to the National Zoo. I wanted to create a link to that article also from the pygmy hippo article. I'm not sure whether the way I did it was appropriate. There's no place for internal links in the article. Some of the pygmy hippos an Madascar became extinct so recently I'm not sure they should be described as "prehistoric." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:56, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
