Regarding my edit, Ostertag has switched to #99 jersey, which can be seen on this video highlights of the Legends most recent game. Asik, and RFAs in general

I don't think there's an established consensus for how to handle restricted free agents in infoboxes, but I think it is useful to present the team field this way. The Bulls still retain certain rights to Asik, and can match any deal Houston gives him. He's not actually free to sign wherever he wants.

If you want, you can start a general discussion at WT:NBA, because it wouldn't hurt to have some consistency in this area. Zagalejo^^^ 05:43, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Ronnie Brewer

Though the Bulls never issued a press release on the matter, Brewer said the Bulls told him they would not pick up his option. The Bulls had a deadline to do so, which has since passed. The Bulls never formally announced anything about CJ Watson, either, but Watson did eventually sign with the Nets, so they must have made a decision at some point. And there are now reports that the Timberwolves are targeting Brewer.

I'm not sure why Brewer is still listed at the bulls.com roster, but that same page still has a video introduction from CJ Watson, so who knows. We don't have to explicitly say that Brewer is a free agent; we can just leave the team field blank. Zagalejo^^^ 22:48, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

In Foye's case, it seems that the deal is pending the outcome of a physical: [3]. There might be some other paperwork left to do, as well. But since the Jazz's general manager has already made an announcement, I'm comfortable saying that Foye is on the Jazz. What might happen is that, a few days later, we get another report that he has signed. (That's what happened with C.J. Watson.) But for right now, as long as we word things carefully, I'm not going to worry too much about it. The important thing is that we have an official announcement from the team's GM. Converting basketball biography infoboxes

Hello DaHuzyBru - I have noticed that you are a very active Australian Wikipedia editor. I wanted to bounce something off of you and see if you knew of other active NBL editors who might weigh in. I am interested in converting players in the Template:Infobox NBL player over to the broader Template:Infobox basketball biography. In my opinion, this would make converting players who move across leagues much easier as the NBL is the only league who has its own infobox separate from the Basketball biography or NBA biography (which is actually just a redirect) boxes. I started a conversation about this over at WikiProject NBA. I want to check in with a few active NBL editors to make sure there are no issues with doing this. One issue I could foresee is that the "junior association" field would be lost. Heights and weights are also metric first on the NBL box, but that is also true of Europe so I don't think that is a show stopper. What are your thoughts? We may be able to code the box with NBL team colors as is the case in the NBA and Euroleague - I think that would be a nice enhancement. Rikster2 (talk) 13:18, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Eddy Curry

There is a team press release that has been published at a few places (eg, [4]) In truth, the Mavericks' website is probably the worst in the league for announcing transactions; however, the press release at the Dallas News site does come from them. The press release linked above mentions both Curry and Murphy. I didn't look too closely at the references added to the article - those were added before I got there - but the link above convinced me that the deal was official.

There are some subtle things to look for to know when something is official or not. The official announcements all use the same general structure and many of the same phrases, so even when they're not published on NBA.com, you can tell that they're from the team. Kanter

At the start of the season, it was widely reported that Kanter had lost a lot of weight. For a while, I did try to preserve his listed weight in the infobox, although I had to deal with stuff like this. Eventually, I found the game notes (which are basically a program for each game), and saw that the number there was closer to Kanter's reported new weight. Since the game notes are published by the NBA, I figured they were good enough, and I thought that using them would satisfy the people pushing for 242 lbs. (The annoying thing about the game notes is that the links aren't permanent, but the latest game notes show the same weight as before.) Zagalejo^^^ 00:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Los Angeles D-Fenders

Hello DaHuzyBru; you may have noticed that through out December 2012 I worked on the D-Fender article. Of course, being a NBA Development Team, the roster of the D-Fenders is subject to change on an almost daily basis. While updating the article this posed a concern for me as to how frequent I (or anyone) else should cause an update to made.

As something of a fan I attend many home games and am aware of roster changes (the D-Fenders had one this evening). As of this evening, the D-Fenders anticipate making 3 such changes next week [insider information/of course I would not edit until announcements are made]. It is enough to drive one batty but perhaps you have a better way? I see you have effected two recent changes.

Are these changes tied to a source such as the NBA home office transaction records so that I will need not concern myself with this area (roster) in the future? Please let me know, thank you, ChristopherDBoyle (talk) 09:30, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Josh Owens

A couple of points on your edit to Josh Owens regarding stubs and external links.

The stub tag doesn't seem needed as its beyond a sentence or two that says he plays basketball and nothing else. Wikipedia:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Assessment#Quality_scale describes a stub as "little more than a dictionary definition." This seems to go beyond that and at least one sentence each about his high school, college, and pro career. It seems like a start-class not a stub.

The external link to http://www.usbasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=USA&PlayerID=136552 is from usbasket.com, even if it is owned by Eurobasket Inc. Saying it's Eurobasket.com is analogous to labeling a link to http://grantland.com as espn.com.—Bagumba (talk) 02:52, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

(Duhon) has been reverting Valanciunas' height and weight to the NBA.com listings, while he has been denying this http://blog.raptors.com/press-releases/raptors-announce-training-camp-roster/, even though he admitted that the raptors.com site and nba.com were one and the same. I suspect that he has an alternate account by the name of (Brodey) which he used to change Enes Kanter's height and weight, in the wake of my rebuttal of "Look at Enes Kanters NBA listing and Wikipedia page" to his argument of "all NBA players on Wikipedia have their heights and weights listed according to NBA.com". Both (Duhon) and (Brodey) coincidentally have an intense interest in Hollywood North and a .jpg of LeBron James that may or may not have copyright infringements. Deadlinks

I fixed the refs that your edit removed at Malcolm Thomas (basketball, born 1988), presumably because the link did not have 2011–12 transactions anymore. With the new season, it got moved to http://www.nba.com/dleague/transactions_201112.html. In the future, you can consult WP:DEADLINK for these situations. It turns out that webcitation.org had an archived page that could have been used even if nba.com didn't still have it. Hmm, that's weird that they have two roster pages. For what it's worth, the one with a capital R in the URL is the one that the team's home page actually links to. Silas is also listed in the roster (as inactive) in the March 14th media notes: [8]

What concerns me is that I don't see any press releases or transaction list entries that say he was waived or released. The closest thing I found was an item at RealGM's Red Claws page [9], but the D-League's official transaction page merely says he was deactivated that day [10].

Anyway, I tried to be purposely vague when editing the Silas article, so hopefully, that will be accepted as a compromise. It does sound like his season is over because of a shoulder injury. Zagalejo^^^ 05:05, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I saw your edit to add accessdate to a citation. Usually, if archiveurl and archivedate are provided, I consider accessdate somewhat redundant. Accessdate is meant to provide a known date where the web page was last working, in case the like ever dies. Archivedate provides similar info (plus the link is already archived and less likely to ever die). No issue if you want to add it, just trying to save work if possible. Noel/Holiday

That page at NBA.com is a just an Associated Press article. They often publish those, which makes things confusing. The Pelicans' website still has Nerlens Noel featured on the home page, so I don't think a trade has officially happened. There might be salary cap issues that will push things into July. TemplateData is here

Hey DaHuzyBru

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

I decided to give up fighting over Tony Allen (and others in the same situation). I figure if a player is staying with his old team, then we might as well leave it alone. Technically, he's not under contract with anyone at the moment, but there are so many other uphill battles that I've decided to draw a line somewhere. Hi, I saw you moved the article "Medi bayreuth" to "Medi Bayreuth". Is there a policy on English Wikipedia regarding brand names? Their official team name is "medi bayreuth" now, that is why I used "Medi bayreuth" (I just forgot to fix the page title so that it's all lowercase). I don't know what to make of the Mavs' roster. I was hoping something would be clarified by the time I got home from work today, but the only official announcement is that they have traded the draft rights to Nick Calathes.

According to the latest reports, the Mavericks had to waive Josh Akognon and Bernard James in order to make space for Ellis:[13]. So, at least as of yesterday, it seems that they had not finalized a deal for Ellis. This article from the Mavericks' website briefly says that the Mavs are "already rumored to be involved in other signings that haven’t been announced by the team". (That said, I see no official statement about Akognon or James, so who knows.)

The transactions page at NBA.com has gotten several things wrong. For example, Omri Casspi and Chauncey Billups were both listed there long before their teams announced anything. (Billups was also listed on Detroit's official roster for about a week before the Pistons sent out a press release.) Unfortunately, there is no reliable one-stop source for all of the transactions. This summer, the Mavericks have been releasing press releases. They aren't always available on their own website, but I've found them published on InsideHoops and the MavsWiki. I don't think he's a free agent. He had a player option, which he supposedly exercised: [15]. I don't see him included in any other free agent lists.

Is there a consensus not to add semi-pro teams to the club history? Seems link the club history should document all the person's organized club history or it gets confusing for the reader. I looked at the team's site and there is an American player (Justin Watts) on the roster. If I were creating an article for him I'd absolutely include his current club. Just trying to learn here. The comma convention

In regards to this page move, where you quoted that it is "wikipedia convention" to use a comma, where was this convention discussion agreed upon? Doing a dump of all pages in the Category:Players of Australian rules football, we have 28 (Australian footballer born 19XX), 9 (Australian rules footballer born 19XX) and 68 (footballer born 1XXX) and now 1 (footballer, born XXXX). For the sake of project consistency with the other 105 commaless birthdate dabbed footballers, I'd really prefer for it to be moved back. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 16:33, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. It's just one of those things, I guess. The subtle difference might be "basketball" vs "basketball player", "football vs footballer". (occupation born 1990) sort of makes sense as the person who is that politician, footballer or artist was born, but (sport born 1990) does need a comma, as the sport wasn't born. And I agree it isn't a big deal... like I'm not going to go and change all of the (ice hockey) dabs to (ice hockey skater) or anything. Having a look around, it seems like it's a bit of a US vs Eng thing - most US Soccer players use (soccer), whilst British ones use (footballer). Occupation or sport. Sichuan Blue Whales

From past experience, it's hard to know anything for sure about the CBA until box scores become available. I wouldn't be too strict about removing the teams from the Haddadi and Flynn pages, unless you happen to know Chinese and know where to look for this information. (I can't speak with much authority myself; I'm totally relying on Google translate.) Chinese sources seem to say that the players are confirmed to join the team [22], and that's probably as good a source as we'll get. I can't even find an official website for the team. Antetkounmpo pronunciation

Just so you know, that's absolutely not how his name is pronounced. I tried to change this before and have this discussion, but people just keep changing it back. But absolutely it is true that his name is not pronounced that way in Greek. I don't know why it keeps being edited that way, because it's totally wrong. But I tried to change it several times and every time it got edited back and I was told that it was pronounced that way in Greek, even though it most certainly isn't. I'm not talking about the spelling. I'm talking about how it says on the article "Greek pronunciation" then lists an incorrect pronunciation. The one editor said that was incorrect, and actually he was right about that. That was all I was saying. I mentioned that because, I tried to fix that before, and I got shot down on it. But it's a factual error on the article that does not ever get corrected, even with discussions, because some editors are steadfast on believing it's right, even though it actually isn't. I wasn't referring to the spelling.
