A lengthy welcome

Hi Dudhhr. Welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily in collaboration.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

I hope you find some useful information in all this, and welcome again. --Hipal (talk) 21:05, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

  • oops, I thought it was an edit war, sorry. Turns out it’s some silly IP vandal lol Dudhhr (talk) 21:09, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm concerned it's something worse and it looks like at least one dynamic ip is involved, so I've requested article protection. I should have started a article talk page discussion though. Thanks for keeping me on my toes. --Hipal (talk) 21:15, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

FYI

Draft:Albert Kuntz was not a hoax. Millions died around that time, so I figured it was worth checking into. He did indeed die at Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 03:12, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

@Possibly: The creator was a vandal, so I g3 nominated it because of that. sorry dudhhr@ 03:15, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
No sweat. Sometimes even vandals add to the project. By the way, you should change your signature to show your talk page rather than having it immediately enter your talk page in edit mode. People always want to first see what is on the talk page before posting. I've never seen a signature that leads straight to the edit window. --- Possibly (talk) 03:20, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
It worked fine in the pref screen, and I fixed it by adding zero-width spaces between the links. dudhhr@ 03:26, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
@Possibly: Wait no, it is a link, but it gets bolded and doesn't work here because it's the same page, and the zwsp's get removed anyway dudhhr@ 03:28, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Log out and try it. When I click the @, I get taken directly to edit your talk page. It's really not necessary. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 03:29, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
@Possibly: The red italicised text leads to my talk page. The @ is so users can more quickly message my talk page. dudhhr@ 03:32, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
It's not helpful at all, and I have never seen that used by any editor. Have a nice night.--- Possibly (talk) 03:36, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
@Possibly: And...it's gone, replaced by a contribs link in the same spot. The red does lead to my talk page, but it doesn't work on this page, of course. dudhhrContribs 03:40, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. It turns out Albert Kuntz was quite a guy.--- Possibly (talk) 04:53, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Don't do this

People's biographies are serious. This guy died in a concentration camp. This is not a funny joke. Grow up.--- Possibly (talk) 07:25, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

It was an accident to click, as hotcat doesn’t have a confirmation for adding. I've emailed oversight, and I won't do it again. dudhhrContribs 07:30, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Arameans

Hi Dudhhr, I saw you reverted the article Arameans. Please see this case [1] in which several users including Mugsalot are reverting the page Arameans holding a nationalistic POV, which ofcourse has no place on an encyclopedia like Wikipedia. Reldex (talk) 17:53, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Hii Dhudhhr, I recently created an article pn some abbreviations commonly used in Nigeria, and you have proposed for a deletion. Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Islam has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I was able to fix several citations that had issues but there are still two that I do not know how to fix. If you can't fix them either, perhaps the Help Desk can suggest a solution.

Best of luck with the article moving forward.

Speedy deletion declined: Kiriku

Hello Dudhhr. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Kiriku, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I've cleaned it up. Not as spammy now. Reverting changes that were using a valid source

Hi there, I saw that you removed my edits for not having a valid source, is that because I used a FB page as a ref? I have changed it. Some poorer organizations however don't have their own websites and use Facebook instead, so I wonder if it could be included as a valid source in those instances?

This edit also provides balance in a section of this entry that was just giving one point of view.

Thanks. Elizabeth Gate (talk) 19:15, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey Dudhhr. I noticed that my fix on the page was denied and just wanted to know why. Straw Poll at Mary, Queen of Scots

Hi

Saw your lightning fast edit. The purpose of the poll was in keeping with the guidelines…

“The goal of any article discussion is consensus. In the context of articles, straw polls are most helpful only when they help editors actually reach true consensus, evaluate whether a consensus exists, or "test the waters" of editor opinion among a few discrete choices such as two choices for an article's name. It is important to remember that polls do not in themselves create consensus; rather, they are one tool useful for developing mutual consensus and evaluating whether consensus exists.”

As discussion appears to have dried up, with one contributor opposed and three in support, what other method would you suggest in order to “evaluate whether consensus exists”?

WP:G13 tagging

I noticed you tagged Draft:Odd Bot Out with WP:G13. I'm not sure if you're aware of this RFC about manually tagging G13 or not, but it's worth reading. Suffice it to say that when a draft hasn't been edited for 6 months, a bot does the tagging, so there's no real reason to do it manually. Some admins have been declining manually tagged G13s, as at that point, there has been a human edit in the last 6 months. The discussion is about clarifying the question of if manual tagging ought to be allowed or not. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:37, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

@ONUnicorn: I hadn't seen the RfC, as it is not listed on WP:CENT and I don't have WT:CSD watchlisted. Thanks for notifying me of the RfC. :) dudhhr talk contribs (he/they) 16:26, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Tom lewis actor

Hi Dudhhr Today you reverted the edit I did on Tom Lewis’s (actor) date of birth. Unfortunately the person that originally started his wiki page got his year of birth incorrect, all I was trying to do was to correct it. I appreciate he’s a living person and changes need to be referenced however one cannot reference someone’s date of birth on the internet (all other internet references to his date of birth were taken from wiki). Tom is my son so I obviously know his correct date of birth. How do we get round this problem of wiki showing his incorrect date of birth if you won’t accept my changes? LazarusCat (talk) 20:58, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

@LazarusCat: You need to provide a reliable source. Simply stating that you are his parent is not enough. dudhhr talk contribs (he/they) 21:04, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi, appreciate you can’t simply rely on me just being his dad, but whoever setup his page has not referenced his date of birth and ultimately has got it wrong. Please tell me the reliable links being used for the date of birth shown on his page.

All other internet sources are using wiki and getting the date wrong so you see there are NO reliable source links for this. I could actually send you a copy of his birth certificate but that would seem overkill. LazarusCat (talk) 21:19, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

Trouted

I am trying to figure out how to contact you. If I've done this incorrectly I profusely apologize.

I was editing the ECHL Matadors home page. The link to the site I had was broken as it was offline for some years, but I've re-uploaded the site and was trying to fix the two links. The one at the bottom and reference #6. No need to go to Wayback when the real link is back at the same place.

I was the team statistician (not the webmaster as some kind person indicated). The only thing I updated on the website was the team statistics after the game which I reported to Howe SportsData and uploaded to the website (and emailed Sean [Media Guy] and Bob [the owner.])

Regardless, www.darsys.com/matador.html works again. It's the original site as posted and perhaps I'll update it once I get settled in.

Again, if I've done anything incorrectly, it was not intentional. But I couldn't find how to contact anyone. Then you made my change go away, so I'm like THIS PERSON can help me!

Question regarding Medical-Industrial Complex article and DYK Hook

You made a comment about the medical-industrial complex page having multiple MOS errors when you reviewed it for a DYK hook. I am expanding this article for class credit, could you be more specific about some of the MOS errors? I hope to improve my article and your comments could really help. Thanks CatherineGCC (talk) 20:31, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

@CatherineGCC: The specific MOS errors I was referring to were those relating to MOS:HEADCAPS. Section titles should be rendered in Sentence case, not Title case. I have fixed this for you. The Little Mermaid (2023) Capitalization Issues

Hey, I'm writing to you due to the message you posted in my user talk page. The reason why I made that change was that the word "black" was sometimes capitalized and sometimes not capitalized throughout the page, and the word "white" appeared to always be uncapitalized.
