Referencing[edit]

Hello Elizabeth. I have been looking at your sandbox. I notice you have numbers in parenthesis that look like references, but there is no bibliography or reference section yet to see what they mean. You may wish to read Help:Referencing for beginners to learn how to add nice footnotes here. Hi Beth this is Jeffrey from regional geology class. Your page is quite interesting and organized but it may need a few amendments, apart from obviously filling in the empty sections and doing a spelling check (ophiolite is spelled wrongly in the overview section while magmatism is spelled as magnetism in Mesozoic subduction section, which makes a huge difference:p).

1) perhaps links to other wikipedia pages would help the readers to understand better, as not everyone has the basic knowledge to some of the geographical and geological terms here, such as kalimanton (i would not know where that is without looking it up in wiki or google) , ophiolite, tonalite, and maybe also Borneo to show the approximate current geographical position of the place (or maybe you can show that by creating a small inset diagram in your second diagram)

2) it seems that the sub-section 'Subduction Model for South China Sea Spreading' is one of the 3 models for Cenozoic south china sea extension. Therefore, i think it should be placed under the section 'Cenozoic south china sea extension' instead of 'Late Ceneozoic Magmatism and the Mount Kinabalu Intrusion'

3) the diagrams can be improved by more labeling and perhaps some more description in the caption. For example, the red line is not defined for in your second diagram (I'm guessing that it means to be the line of magmatic arc), and the meaning of blue area in your third diagram is also unknown. The subduction zone is also poorly mapped in the 2nd model of the third diagram, particularly the subduction boundary along the proto-south china sea.

4) I would suggest a comparison between the 3 models for south china sea extension, both the features, mechanisms and plausibility.

Images[edit]

I notice that you have uploaded some images from a thesis. The one at http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/9450/1/Complete_Thesis_-_Post-Viva_-_Mt_Kinabalu_-_Alex_Burton-Johnson_2013.pdf. The thesis actually says:"The copyright of this thesis rests with the author. No quotation from it should be published without the author’s prior written consent and information derived from it should be acknowledged" and also "The full-text may be used and/or reproduced, and given to third parties in any format or medium, without prior permission or charge, for personal research or study, educational, or not-for-proit purposes provided that..". Where do you have evidence that the images are in the public domain released by BURTON-JOHNSON, ALEXANDER? It dfoes not say that in the thesis. In the UK where this came from, I don't even think it is legally possible to release into the public domain. That is why there is a CC-Zero license. Saving[edit]

Hi Beth,

it is a few hours since you had your problem. I suggest that you should just wait a bit and try save again. If needed copy and paste your work into an off-line file eg notepad and save with utf-8. Then later past your work back in when you can edit. I note that you have not managed to save after posting on my talk page. You may have logged out before you manage to save. PDF uploads[edit]

FYI, though Wikipedia does permit PDF uploads and they will usually be rendered correctly if they are image-based PDFs, a native image format is preferable. If it's a vector-based image, SVG is the most preferred option. If it's a non-vector chart, logo, or map, then PNG is preferred. If it's a photo, JPEG is the best option.
