Cholesterol embolism has been a work of mine in progress for some time. It still needs to grow a lot. Would you be able to assist in writing a section on the pathological appearance of skin or kidney biopsies in this condition? Alternatively, could you direct me to a good source? Mount Hor in your map of the Land of Israel

Hi, I came across your image depicting the Land of Israel. I'm confused though by your choice of Mount Hor as Ras al Shaka in northern Lebanon. What is this location based on? According to the article on Mount Hor, as well as the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica, 1901 Encyclopedia Biblica, and 1915 International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, Mount Hor's exact location isn't known, but the commonly floated possibilities (Jebel Nebi Harun, Jebel Madara, or Mount Hermon) appear to lie either inside modern day Israel, the Golan Heights, or on the border between Israel and Jordan. It seems to me that a more accurate representation of the northern border described in Numbers - "from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount Hor; From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath" - would be a border from the sea to one of these three points (Mount Hermon, for instance, which wouldn't be far from the modern border between Israel and Lebanon), that then ran northeast to Hamath. Interestingly, this would almost more closely match the map of the Kingdom of David]. ← George ^[talk] 11:37, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Causes of death

I scanned this article and didn't find any information on how exactly cancer causes death. Is it always because a vital organ deteriorates and is unable to function properly? For those brave enough, here is my opinion. I do not have much personal experience with this because doctors do not ask for an autopsy in this context. The classical mechanisms of death due to out of control, widespread cancer are :

• consequences of obstruction by the tumor mass:
  • whole body infection (sepsis) from intestinal obstruction,
  • suffocation from obstruction of the trachea,
  • blood poisoning with urine (uremia) caused by ureter obstruction,
• wasting away from lack of food (cachexia); cancer causes extreme lack of appetite (anorexia) while simultaneously increasing the energy requirements of the body to sustain tumor growth,
• blood clots; cancer "thickens the blood" (hypercoagulable state),
• severe anemia or lack of white blood cells (cytopenia) from bone marrow invasion,

There are many others. Most of these mechanisms of death could be countered by medical or surgical intervention, but you must understand that cancer death is often preceded by severe pain. Death is seen by both patients and doctors as welcomed. I hope this helps. Sorry again for being blunt. I do not think that this list belongs in the Cancer article, usually read by patients at the beginning of the disease. This may also help you place euthanasia in context. UN & Ahmedinejad

No, this edit of mine was not "a joke" and I'm a bit confused as to why you would suggest it might have been. One person, by definition, is not "many". There is way too much text in WP articles cited to obscure individual op-eds and written up as if it were fact, or mainstream or majority opinion. This is simple misrepresentation. Now there are more citations, to the comments of a range of different political figures, I obviously have no problem with the entry (other than that if I wanted to be really pedantic I would say it should say "several" or "some" rather than many). --Nickhh (talk) 14:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for the belated reply, I missed your query response. Certainly, there's a reason Palestine was chosen over Uganda and certainly that reason is found mostly in religious texts. However, the concept in itself needs a separate article and to only be quickly over-viewed in the very large scale article of Arab-Israeli conflict. e.g. like 'History of ancient Israel and Judah' inside the Israel article. These topics intertwine to some extent but not to such an extent that a separate main article should be avoided (see also: Wikipedia:Main article fixation). If this doesn't yet clarify my point, let me know and I'll try a different angle for explaining it. Off course, you don't have to agree, but at least hear me out to see that you understand my point.

Hi! I know that you were only intending to be helpful, and that you did also recommend to the questioner that she speak to a physician, but I've removed your comment from Talk:Breast cancer as it also offered a number of alternate diagnoses.

As much as possible, we try to discourage people from bringing their symptoms to Wikipedia in search of a diagnosis. The risks – most significantly to the questioner, but also to Wikipedia and its reputation – aren't ones that we're prepared to assume. (It's been a recurring issue at the Reference Desks, to the point that I've put together a synopsis of the reasons why we can't offer such advice: User:TenOfAllTrades/Why not?.)

I am not your enemy. There is no need to chose battles here. I certainly did not mean to battle you nor to win a battle against you. As long as "UN Watch" and "Eye on the UN" are not mislabeled as blogs and as long as the bibliographic information is kept in a separate "Further reading" section, I will not oppose whatever restructuring you suggest for the external links section. I personally don't care for the "Pro-Israel" vs. "Pro-Palestinian" categorization, either; I was trying to appease another editor who intended to remove the external links altogether, otherwise. Also, thank you for pointing out the PalestineHistory link, which I completely missed (yep, it definitely does not belong in the "Pro-Israel" category). Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. Pathology images

Hi, I am building a collection of high resolution micrographs and I would be happy to have someone review them/annotate 'em... and correct/enhance the brief accompanying descriptions I write. :-)

What I consider my better stuff is in my gallery - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Nephron/Gallery. Most of the stuff in the the micrograph category at the Wikicommons are pictures where I pressed the shutter button.

If you have any ideas about categories/want to come-up with a standard grouping set (e.g. gynecologic pathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology etc.)-- I'd be happy to hear about it. Very beautiful pictures! I think the pictures are well classified. All I can add is that people usually find Wikimedia pictures by searching, so make sure you include a wider variety of keywords. For example, in the description of the ferruginous body picture (beautiful!), you should add the following words: "asbestos", "histology" "microscope", "macrophage", "granuloma", "pneumoconiosis", "hemosiderin", etc. Also, insert the pictures in appropriate Wikipedia articles. I oppose any merge or deletion, because although the United Nations is an important global institution, it does not satisfy the criteria of a State, but does get criticized by most countries as if it were a real state. See for example criticism of the Roman Catholic Church : the Catholic Church is a quasi-State institution that gets criticized in the same way that the United Nations is criticized. UN anti-Israel declaration in 1973

This is a sentence I added in the Zionism article which also belongs in the UN article, I thought you might be willing to handle it as you know the article. You can find the text of the decision online at the UN website but it takes a bit searching. December 1973 is at the end of the Yom Kippur war and the start of the ARab oil boycott.

In December 1973, the UN passed a series of resolutions condemning South Africa and included a reference to an "unholy alliance between Portugese colonialism, Apartheid and Zionism." Hi Emmanuel. No problem. I'm just trying to improve the referencing one bit at a time. Sometimes, doing some housekeeping helps you see the wood for the trees, well it does for me anyway. I expect we will have plenty more to discuss about the referencing. For example, I think there are too many refs to the UN documents, which are primary sources. Could we use Benny Morris more?
