Tidying up
Hi,
I was attempting to update this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Al_Issawi to which your contributions were crucial. I messed it up. This is what I was trying to do:
Add http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/plohistoryofrevolution/ as a link for "A 6-part English-language version began airing on Al Jazeera English on July 13, 2009 under the title PLO: History of a Revolution"
Also add http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/plohistoryofrevolution/2009/07/200975115813478323.html as a link to after "Al-Issawi penned a "making of" article to go with the program"
And finally http://english.aljazeera.net/focus/2009/05/2009527115531294628.html at the end of this sentence: "Al-Issawi has been an occasional analyst for Al Jazeera's English-language channel, commenting on Lebanese affairs, and has contributed to its website".
You assisted graciously before. Would you be kind enough to do so once again?
Thanks a lot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 1inthedesert (talk • contribs) 08:29, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sory I took so long to reply. Sometimes my talk page manages to slip my mind. :-) I've edited the external links. Additional citations were not needed in 2 cases, and in the other you added the ref just fine. Fribbler (talk) 16:38, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Your RfA
Regardless of whether or not your RfA passes, I would recommend taking a look at WP:WIHSD. The speed at which you tagged some items had me somewhat concerned, eg within minutes of the articles creation, but as there was nothing that jumped out at me as incorrect I didn't hold that against you. I just want you to be congnizant of the reasons why people have negative interactions with Speedy Deleters and understand how you might be able to emerge among the best of the CSD'ers rather than the worst. I definitely see the potential in you, I just don't see enough to assuage my concerns.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 21:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Since this is about the same topic, I'm just going to put it in the same section. I noticed in your RfA you mentioned you would work on CSD stuff. You didn't specifically mention file CSDs, but if you do eventually work on them, I suggest you get more experience first. I noticed you don't apparently don't have any edits to the File namespace.--Rockfang (talk) 22:17, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- In reply to Balloonman: I am in total agreement with you in regard to the most irritating aspects of CSD'ers: Knee-jerk deletion of articles with potential. And I hope I am NEVER guilty of that. I can CSD rather fast, but these will be articles that generally fall into 3 categories 1) "Spam Industries is the Internet's best place to buy flange scrangers" 2) "Tommy is teh gay! he s*&ks c^&*s!!!LOL" 3) "Sarah was born in 1998 and is my best friend in school. Cheers hun! xxx". In other cases, if an article asserts notability but has no references, for example, then my next port of call is google, then google scholar and google news. If I can save the article from incorrect deletion then I am all the happier. In hindsight, I think my answer to question 1 made me look a little too deletionist; I am not. I am quite conservative in my CSD choices, I hope I have never tagged an article that was neither a clear A7 nor within the nebulous A1/A3 category. I did like your oppose vote. I've found myself hard to evaluate, too. :-) Adding references, or copy-editing an article translated from a Slavic Language rarely requires a user talk page edit. I'm not sure how I would react to a serious conflict; but I'd like to think I would remain rational. I've changed County Derry to County Londonderry numerous times. As as an Irish person, that would be anathema - but policy trumps politics and other emotionally-inspired ideals. We are to educate, not indoctrinate. Thanks for your time and input, Balloonman. I've appreciated your input since I first started "lurking" around RfA discussions many moons ago.
- To Rockfang: I have no intention of touching the File CSD category with a ten foot wiki-pole. The file rules are "greek to me" and I would seriously need to bone up on the rules before I engaged myself there. Fribbler (talk) 22:47, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
You are now an administrator
Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. If you have any questions, get in touch on my talk page. WJBscribe (talk) 17:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

- Thank you both. Now I've got some reading to do... <reading glasses equipped> :-) Fribbler (talk) 17:46, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Congrats! You very much deserve it. Don't forget, as junior admin, you bring coffee for everyone until there's a new one.--Wehwalt (talk) 17:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations on passing the RFA. I was impressed by you contributions and your conduct during the RFA. You might want to check out {{admin dashboard}}. I keep a link to it up next to my watchlist. The long list of CAT:SD candidates can be daunting at times. All the best. Plastikspork (talk) 17:59, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think I will add a link to that to my userpage, looks very useful. Thanks! Fribbler (talk) 18:11, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- There is also the User:Plastikspork/admindash.js scriptlet, which adds a link next to "my contributions" and gives you the "hotkey" alt-shift-a to go to the dashboard. Best regards. Plastikspork (talk) 18:18, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Redirects
Hi there; whether we do or do not delete redirects generated by good-faith miss-spellings is very much a matter of personal choice. You will appreciate that any word can have a potentially very large number of possible spelling errors possible. I take the view that any editor who seeks via a miss-spelling should realise his error and correct it. I will concede that a redirect of this type takes up only a small amount of server memory, and would not dogmatically insist either on deletion or retention. If you find one which you feel should be retained, just remove the tag. No-one will complain. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:10, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, I understand the position now. Fribbler (talk) 12:12, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- You are wholly welcome. If you feel the need for any advice while finding your feet, I am more than happy to help. Incidentally, while it is in no sense a requirement, you might think about removing the vandalism-number template from your userpage. I used to have this template up, and found that it attracted vandals in torrents after I became an admin! I removed it when the number reached 120, as it was clear that some clowns were editing on my pages just to increase the score!! --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:19, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ha ha, yes; I hadn't thought of that. Providing them with a scoring system is not really a good idea. Fribbler (talk) 12:25, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

I tried to rescuse Push Play from speedy deletion earlier, but I couldn't find any reliable sources. I know they're not one of the hundred MySpace bands that get A7'ed every day...they show up on my Pandora stream every once in awhile. I suspect they'll be notable at some point, but not yet...MirrorLockup (talk) 23:48, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- FWIW, I sent this article to AfD. So, it gets a fair hearing and a reprieve to try and find some more non-trivial coverage. Please feel free to add sourced information on how they meet WP:BAND. Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 23:56, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
I found 'some' reliable sources that inply that it does exist i hope it's enough (for now) for you to consider dropping the deletion charges. while i find more sources and futher improve the page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Julian Grebe (talk • contribs) 01:06, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
