Matt Fong Chinese name

I noticed you reverted an edit I made to Matt Fong where I moved his Chinese name from the lead to an endnote.[1] You stated it is "convention" to have such names in the lead. I am just curious to what you are referring. In this case, the subject was born in the United States, is notable only for activities in the US. There is not evidence in the article that he had any connection with China at all or that he even spoke Chinese. His Chinese name is unreferenced and there is no evidence he ever used a Chinese name. I certainly favor the inclusion of the name in the article but it is of ephemeral importance an should not be in the lead. Cf. the case of Kevin Rudd who dis use a Chinese name and does speak Chinese. His Chinese name is given in the article but not in the lead. —  AjaxSmack  01:01, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Being born in the United States does not preclude a person being given a Chinese name by parents and grandparents. Being active only in the United States does not mean he did not use a Chinese name. Chinese is not a language that belongs only to China. It is a major language in California if not the United States. Fong ran every campaign statewide using his own Chinese name in the ballot of every county that was required to produce Chinese-language material and of course also in the state booklet--in addition to his campaign materials. A simple Google search of his Chinese name will produce so many news reports that referencing is essentially meaningless. And finally, every Chinese American with known Chinese name in Wikipedia has his/her Chinese name in the opening sentence or a transliteration box, the simplest example being Fong's mother. Inclusion of Chinese names had been more than well discussed at many people's articles. HkCaGu (talk) 04:58, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

due to tonight's edit from 75.160.53.246 (which are in the same exact nature of the advertising/spam edits of editor 70.189.192.168, I have opened a SPI case. So, if you look here: [2] and click on Flights and Frequencies in the upper right hand corner it says Aeroméxico Connect flight 465 goes from PHX - MEX with a stop in HMO. So, because it's the same aircraft and flight number, would it be acceptable to note Mexico City as one of Aeroméxico Connect's destinations from PHX? ZHoover123 06:50, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

No it is not the same aircraft. Just look up a few inches. AM464 arrives from HMO at 1245. It is an ERJ. What flies out of MEX is AM464 flown by a 737. But at HMO, the aircraft changes. Think about it. It's AM's template that cannot accommodate two types of aircraft for one flight number. If you still have doubts whether it is an ERJ or a 737 that arrives into PHX, look at the return to Mexico. AM465 is an ERJ both to HMO and to MEX (I bet there's an aircraft change). This route is the only AM route in PHX. What comes in must go out. An ERJ flying out means there's an ERJ that flies in, in this case, it flies in at 1245 and flies out an hour later at 1345. HkCaGu (talk) 07:11, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok I got it. They don't make things very easily distinguished on their website I'll tell you that! But thanks! ZHoover123 18:56, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

This is called « change of gauge ». Therefore it is unacceptable?

Kslall8765 (talk) 11:41, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Correct. Participants of WP:AIRPORT (before I joined) had established a consensus that they wouldn't let airline marketing gimmicks determine what constitute a "destination", the best examples being continuation of flights into the US from Europe or Asia changing to a 737. In Aeromexico's case, it's actually different carriers--AM mainline and AM Connect. HkCaGu (talk) 14:01, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport

Correct, KT airport is no longer used, but the VHHX code was assigned to it. Linux731 (talk) 22:11, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

See Talk:Kai Tak Airport. VHHX may be mentioned as a transitional tool (if you can source it), but to let it simply replace VHHH is not appropriate. HkCaGu (talk) 01:55, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

VHHX was assigned since it was a popular airport for it's crosswind and downwind landings, so it was reassigned a code. Linux731 (talk) 02:30, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Aeromexico Tokyo-Narita and Shanghai flights

Do you know the reason Aeromexico can't sell tickets from SJD to PVG? Also, I added back NRT to the TIIJ artciel as the airline is still selling seats on that route until September 6th then the flight is zero'd out of the reservation system after that. Does Aeromexico not have 5th freedom rights from Los Cabos to Shanghai? I have made a hidden note regarding that route since the airline will not let me book a flight solely from SJD to PVG. Snoozlepet (talk) 19:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Really don't know why since they stop at SJD both ways. The stops are long enough to conduct both refueling and immigration/customs. HkCaGu (talk) 19:50, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
AM98 operates MEX-SJD-PVG with a Boeing 777. However, the SJD-MEX-SJD segment is bookable but the flight is operated by Boeing 737 under a different flight number. So, I am guessing that the flight will still fly from MEX to PVG but make a tech stop at SJD to refuel and then fly to Shanghai. On the return flight from PVG to MEX, the flight will still stop at SJD to refuel again and fly to MEX but passengers will clear customs/immigration in Mexico City not Los Cabos. By the way the scenerio goes, AM does not have 5th freedom rights on the SJD-PVG route but will hopefully gain it soon. Snoozlepet (talk) 19:51, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't think you can really call it "5th freedom" since AM is a Mexican carrier. (Or is it all the 777s are US-registered?) Anyway, in any hidden or visible notes, we need to say "does not sell" instead of "no traffic rights". HkCaGu (talk) 20:12, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Continental SFO-LAX

Can you find a source stating that there is 1 SFO-LAX flight on CO metal? I couldn't find any flights operating in either airline's timetables, all are operated by United. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 01:01, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Looks like the last ones are this weekend, Sat 8/27 UA/CO 1732 1030-1203 B739, Sun 8/28 UA/CO 1710 1018-1151, then no more. HkCaGu (talk) 03:36, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Continental/United flights at SEA

I had to delete some incorrect routes for United/Continental at Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Denver was added for Continental from SEA but those flights are United and couldn't find a flight on CO metal (CO does fly DEN to SEA). Also, couldn't find any United Express flights from SEA to DEN on November 29 in either airline's timetables (all of those are on mainline). I don't know if these are right or not but if you can find those flights in their timetables, feel free to add. Snoozlepet (talk) 06:00, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Aeromexico flights to Shanghai

Hey. Looks like the flights from Mexico City to Shanghai will stop in Los Cabos until January 7th then from January 10, the airline will go back to operating the flight stopping in Tijuana again. So I guess that this is only temporary. I have already made the changes. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 07:29, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

The calendar were used to determine the new year. Let me ask you a question can you tell which day is the new year to celebrate without the calendar? They are related info and there is no reason to remove it.Trongphu (talk) 03:26, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

The calendar is used, period. And it is used to determine everything else, not just the new year. The Saudi example of "use" is valid because it is unique among Islamic nations. Chinese and Vietnamese calendars are described in "lunisolar" below. CNY and Tet are simply not notable in that paragraph. HkCaGu (talk) 04:10, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
The calendar is used, period. And it is used to determine everything else so what? You can always add new info as the facts. It's not like Lunar calendar has "so much information" now, it's still missing a lot of information. What do you mean by CNY and Tet are simply not notable in that paragraph.??? The new year event is a very important event in those 2 countries that has tradition over thousands of years. You just insulted many Asians people by that statement. Evidences are they both have their own articles Tết (Vietnamese new year), Chinese new year. The info i added is just a tiny (it's almost like nothing) info about those 2 significant events that based on lunar calendar, readers can read more by that interesting introduce to those 2 events if they are interested. I strongly think those 2 are absolutely notable enough. You better find many people that have the same thinking as you to undo my edit. Is there any voting that people can vote on like AfD as an example. And to be honest, you don't have a neutral point of view.Trongphu (talk) 04:22, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
This article is there to explain the technical and scientific stuff, not various cultures and customs. The only place it goes into that is Saudi Arabia (and not the whole Islamic calendar) because that's the only place the 354-day year count is used for secular purposes. The article otherwise does not say what the calendars are used for, and should remain that way. Carefully consider if Chinese and Vietnamese "uses" are to be included, then why not other festivals like Mid-Autumn Festival and all the other calendars (Jewish holidays, Tibetan holidays, etc.)? This is why I think your edit is simply out of place. HkCaGu (talk) 04:34, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
You can added all the festivals that use lunar calendar or related to lunar calendar if you want, it's not like someone else going to stop you for that. The article otherwise does not say what the calendars are used for, and should remain that way, No one add them (what the calendars are used for) before doesn't mean they can't be written there. You can write an entire new section just talk about festival related to lunar calendar. The sentence i wrote is best stay where it is right now until someone expand that information enough to put it in the new section in the article. And yea a great encyclopedia should include all helpful information related to the subject of the article and details. Lunar calendar has a great impact on events like that is undeniable.Trongphu (talk) 11:53, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, I guess you still don't get it. What Chinese and Vietnamese call "lunar calendar" is not the same as the article "Lunar calendar". It is the generic term, not the specific term. "The lunar calendar" simply determines the day of the month, not which month is new year. In China and Vietnam, two calendars are in use, Gregorian and Chinese/Vietnamese (same rules, just an hour different). The Gregorian calendar is "a" solar calendar and the Chinese/Vietnamese calendar is "a" lunar calendar (not "the"). In Hong Kong, the official name of the holiday is "Lunar New Year", but this terminology is simply incorrect once you step your foot outside the CKV world. Therefore, an article for a general term should not contain over-specific information. Lunar calendar explains the different calendars that are lunar or lunisolar, and compares them. There is an article called Lunar New Year that explains how all the lunar calendars calculate the first month. I hope you can see why CNY and Tet don't fit into the article. HkCaGu (talk) 17:37, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure what are you're trying to say but as far as i can tell you. I'm a Vietnamese, I live there most of my life. So I have confident that i know more stuffs about this than you do. And no i don't see why CNY and Tet don't fit into the article.Trongphu (talk) 20:32, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

You are still too narrowly focused on the individual cultures and not the calendar, which is what the article is for. Take a look at Lunisolar calendar, which is what Chinese and Vietnamese calendars belong to. It doesn't explain any customs, but it does the most important job--listing which calendars are of that type. It doesn't even explain how each Asian calendar calculates new year (the first month). "Lunar" is even more wide than "lunisolar". If you were to randomly add Chinese and Vietnamese, then why not Thai and Tibetan and Mongolian and Cambodian which all have different months for new years which are holiday in respective countries or region? The lunar article doesn't even explain how Islamic new year or Ramadan or whatever. Those holy days belong to that particular calendar, not the general article called "lunar". HkCaGu (talk) 03:59, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Like i said you can add more info about all the other holidays like Thai, Tibetan... if you want.Trongphu (talk) 20:50, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

CO NRT-HKG-SGN route

Regarding Continental's Narita-Hong Kong-Ho Chi Minh City route, Continental doesn't have traffic rights on the Narita to Ho Chi Minh route and that route cannot be booked on Continental's website. An discussion was started at the EWR talk page regarding this but I don't know what his sources are. Many sources state that IAH will be the largest hub for United after the merger (unless it was changed and I don't know about it). UA LIM-IAH-SFO

Shouldn't San Francisco be removed from the Lima Airport page as well since it passes thru IAH, which is a UA/CO hub. Cause when the two carriers combine, SFO should be removed from the LIM page since IAH will be a UA hub. Snoozlepet (talk) 06:51, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes more so since there's customs/immigration going LIM-SFO. Merger is the only reason for cross-fleeting, so IAH should be considered a hub. HkCaGu (talk) 06:55, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Now that the airlines are going to receive a single operating certificate tomorrow (http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20111129/NEWS10/111129830/united-continental-get-fed-nod-to-operate-as-single-carrier), how should we begin to list UA and CO? Do we list it as "United operated by Continental" or continue to list the flights as Continental until their code officially disappears? Also, one user went ahead and jumped the gun and made Continental defunct and lists the CO hubs to the UA page. Snoozlepet (talk) 05:47, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Be Very Careful

Please be very careful and make sure you don't engage or feed an edit war, as happened here and subsequently caused the page to be protected for the next week, and sit in a holding pattern (no pun intended) until December 7th, when we can fully update the article with the ceasing of CO operations as an airline. I've explained everything in the Talk page. Many editors who reverted didn't. HkCaGu (talk) 05:34, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Congressional delegations

They are plural, even with one rep and no senators. The plural comes from multiple delegations over time. 112th Congress has one delegation, 111th had another, etc. Thus, plural.—GoldRingChip 20:12, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

OK I see. The switch from "list of" is the confusing part. HkCaGu (talk) 20:16, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

An editor using IP 46. is repeatedly adding Korean Air Cargo to the articles cargo table despite a note posted in their telling him they dont fly freighters into IST and even providing him with schedule link to show they dont, I have even told his directly via his talk page, yet he continues to vandalise that section, kindly issue him a temporary ban or warning. 116.71.29.208 (talk) 19:24, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
