Great work on Monica Maurice - she deserved an article. Well done from Women in Red - we need to celebrate these engineers. Victuallers (talk) 12:30, 19 January 2019 (UTC) |
Hello Inwen, wanted to give some pointers on the article Victoria Thornton as it's currently very promotional. You might want to move the article to userspace temporarily to rewrite some sections, as it's likely that someone will nominate it for speedy deletion as advertisment. These phrases should all be avoided: "unique concept", "a key international advocate", "at the forefront of advocating the value of design in creating vibrant", "the world's most prestigious school". Think you could summarize these things more neutrally? – Thjarkur (talk) 00:37, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your great work Inwen! :) – Thjarkur (talk) 23:16, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Ella Hudson Gasking
[edit]Hi; on the Ella Hudson Gasking page, cite No 2, which is a British Newspaper Archive reference, is missing a title. I don't have a BNA account anymore - could you please insert a title in the title parameter of the citation? Thanks and regards. The joy of all things (talk) 15:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Ways to improve Victoria Thornton
[edit]Hello, InwenSE,
Thank you for creating Victoria Thornton.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
From a sources perspective, the article is falling a bit shy of WP:GNG; however, the claims of accomplishments and appointments seem significant enough to suggest that additional coverage exists. However, currently uncited paragraphs should have citations added.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.
Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

[edit]Looks good so far! Couple of general points from yesterday.
- The lede opening sentence of any new article needs to establish very clearly why this person (or topic) is notable/remarkable/significant/important for inclusion on Wikipedia. The Manual of Style WP:MOS has guidance for writing a good opening sentence which summarises/contextualises the person but equally you can view other biography articles on Wikipedia similar to your article to see how they have opened.
- Citations should back up every statement (place after full stop) or at least every paragraph.
- Headings are only capitalised on the first word only. You can check other articles for typical article headings used in biographies or visit Wikipedia's Manual of Style WP:MOS.
- If we can add 50-100 words and 3 or 4 (or more) references from reliable published secondary sources (more is always better for establishing wider notability) then we have something we can publish. For help publishing you can email me at ewan.mcandrew@ed.ac.uk or view our website page here.
Some more training guides (pdf) are available and on the Dashboard here. Thanks for joining us yesterday! Stinglehammer (talk) 16:08, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
