Speedy deletion nomination of Rapid7

[edit]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Rapid7, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JCP1221 (talk) 15:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jhona43,

I'm a researcher at University in the realm of technology security and analytics and I noticed that you flagged my one line page for "Rapid7" for speedy deletion. I believe my reasons for posting the one line are valid and I would love it if you lended a better explanation for your flag for speedy deletion. I believe that my one line page was purely factual and cited equal companies in the same realm of IT security, thus I am having trouble understanding how the page was promotional in any way. Thank you for you guidance.

Best, John JCP1221 (talk) 15:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

-- Hi JCP1221
-- Though the page also mentions competitors this is still promotion just towards them as well. In addition to this notability is a big issue, the page does not currently give any indication of significance towards the business as it stands.

Speedy Deletion of My Hall Monitor

I guess I'm confused. Facebook, Uservoice, Twitter... Other types of businesses are on here explaining about their technology services that are offered as a technology resource. Thats all I am trying to do and I actually even followed this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UserVoice#cite_ref-stackoverflow_5-1 with how to set mine up so if my page is going to be deleted shouldnt this one and all the others on Wiki that are explaining about technology? Please let me know or what I should change so the guidelines are met. I am still adding articles and notes to the page but wanted to save so I didnt lose the current work.

Also how do I setup the company details on the right hand side like UserVoice has on their page? Any help would be appreciated there.

Information icon Hello Jhona43. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), or content (CSD A3), moments after they are created, as you did at AfricaHackOn. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Hi Jhona43, thanks for your help.
Krov Menuhin has spent around 40 years as a professional wildlife documentary film maker. This is a record (pre his demise) of his contribution as a pioneer to his profession. He has produced films for BBC, Channel 4 and Ushuaia TV. His compatriots, such as Nicolas Hulot have wikipedia pages and his contribution to the business has been recognised by prizes such as Prix de la Marine National for Passion Des Epaves and World Wild Life organisation. His father and brother have wikipedia pages, see Yehudi Menuhin. Krov menuhin has been a pioneer in his field and he has been a Rolex juror and mentor twice in the past. He is now the chairman of the Hans Hass award. Speedy Deletion and WP:BITE

[edit]

Hi there! I very much appreciate your work patrolling new pages. However, I'd like to draw your attention to Wikipedia's policy on biting the newcomers. Tagging a page for deletion moments after creation is considered uncivil and may drive away newcomers whose edits are made in good faith. It's generally a good idea to give a page no less than 10 minutes before tagging unless, of course, it's an attack page or some other sort of vandalism. Hola Jhona43. I created the article Allan Young (cricketer). I noticed that you tagged the article as "unreferenced" at the very minute that I created the article. Hello Xender Lourdes, I apologize for tagging the Allan Young (cricketer) article as unreferenced. At the time I was patrolling many pages, I was unaware that the page was created within the last 10 minutes, and whether or not you were still actively working on the page and planning on adding references. In the future it would be best to create articles within the draft userspace, moving them when complete. I have taken your advice on-board and will give editors 10 minutes to finalize their page before adding any tags. Jhona43 (talk) 11:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gracias. Xender Lourdes (talk) 15:07, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jhona, for responding. Giving new articles a bit more time (especially if they're being actively edited) is usually worth it. Also, do be mindful of WP:BITE - in lots of cases, new editors take their first steps onto the project by editing a new article. So the quick tags, while they may be accurate, can be incredibly frustrating. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 15:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kelly mel52 (talk)

I tagged the page you created Mel Kelly for deletion because at the time the page was insignificant in accordance to A7. No indication of importance. I can see that the page now has been tagged for a couple of reasons so I will not be tagging the page for deletion again. It's likely another user will tag the page for deletion because at the minute the article does not cite any sources, nor can I locate any of significance.
