New Iberia, Louisiana

I saw your edit to New Iberia, Louisiana. I just finished deleting part of her image gallery from Port Gibson, Mississippi. Have a look at this block and the rest of her talk page. Census data

The information is directly from the census bureau's website. Instead of threatening to have me blocked, wouldn't it be more beneficial to do a little leg work and correctly cite it? The issue is that I've correctly cited the material before and it's been taken off. So rather than have correct material on Wikipedia you would revert it back to the information that wasn't cited before? Seems like you're really helping... It is not my responsibility to cite your changes, it's yours. Notice I haven't got numerous warnings and a block on my talk page? Logically, who do you think it's more likely is doing it right and who is it more likely that is doing it wrong? If you replace the information without a cite you'll get warned again; do it twice and you'll most likely get blocked again, something that has never happened to me in over 5 years. Could that be because I didn't show up here, ignore rules and was thankful for guidance rather than telling people who were trying to guide me what THEY were doing wrong? You decide. If you can read, you would notice that I did cite before hand. Also, the information I replaced WASN'T even cited in the first place. When you delete someones contributions it IS your responsibility. You're the "internet tough guy" type who thinks they can run over people because it's the only area of their life in which they have any control over and all you can do is threaten blocks, because you know you don't have the intestinal fortitude to say anything to anybody in person. There is not a citation in either change. And as I said, if you replace it again without adding a citation, I will report you to AIV and most likely you will be blocked (again). If you do not know how to properly cite something, use the link to the Teahouse at the top of your talk page and ask. I'm glad to help those who want help, but when one comes at me blaming me for there ignorance, I tend to not be very helpful at all. You bore me. Please do not waste my time by posting here again. There was no citation for the changes by others before that. A common tactic of individuals with a weak argument is to claim that the other party is "ignorant". If you can't form an argument with merit, that's okay. Just work at it. Additionally, no one "came" at you. If you believe that, it shows that your argument isn't the only thing that's weak. Active students listed as notable alumni

Hi John from Idegone. I'm wondering how are active students with their own stand-alone articles treated when it comes to adding information about them to articles about their schools. Are these individuals also considered "Notable alumni"? I've looked at WP:ALUMNI for guidance and it does mmention that it matters not whether the individual graduated, but I'm not sure if that pertains to current student who still attend the school. The reason I'm asking about this is because of Kamehameha Schools#Notable alumni. The entry for Auli'i Cravalho lists her expected graduation date. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:30, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Her being in the list is fine IMO. But remember we do not allow WP:OR. It's my experience that grad dates are frequently that. Where would one find a reliable source for a person's graduation date from high school? Unless the subject themselves happened to mention that in an interview, the only other sources i can think of offhand would be a yearbook or a resume, neither of which we would generally use as a source. I think the assumption being made is that most US high school students graduate in 4 years; so, someone entering as a freshman in 2015 would be graduating in 2019. I'm not sure how it common it is these days, but when I was a high school student it was very common in official publications such as yearbooks, etc. for schools themselves to refer to years of students according to their expected year of graduation. Student letterman jackets, etc. typically had patches, etc. of the wearer's expected year of graduation somewhere on them as well. Still those things are not an indication of fact per se but rather an expectation of what should happen if everything goes as scheduled, which is OR per Wikipedia. Do you think just removing the "Class of 2019" from this particular entry would be a sufficient way to take care of this? -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:29, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

question re replacing stub statement

Hi, John,

Thanks for editing the Adam Cohen (journalist) page. I'm a brand new editor at Wikipedia, so I'm just interested in what prompted you to replace the "stub" statement I had deleted when I expanded the article. Did you think it was still not sufficiently expansive to get rid of calling it a stub? I'm just curious, that's all.

Also, I see you moved the picture of Cohen. Can you tell me why?

I enjoy all these edits. I'm just learning and wondered at your rationale, that's all. Thanks for editing!

Hi! I'm glad to hear you enjoy editing Wikipedia. I started out editing by making small corrections to two biographies of people I know while waiting with my psycho ex for my darling son to arrive. A little over 5 years later, I'm in the top 1000 for contributions on Wikipedia and co-coordinator of a WikiProject (and the proud father of a darling little man). It is a lot of fun and quite educational, not only in what you read in order to contribute, but as an ongoing lesson in interpersonal relationships. You've already discovered the best piece of advice I could give you: ask questions! Teahouse is great. Without it, I would have quit after a week.
I replied to your concern about the assessment at the Teahouse as did others. Just read it there. Long story short - I screwed up. Regarding the photo, it's a matter of commonality. It's easier for the reader if the same info is in the same place in similar articles. If there is only one photo in an article, it should be in the infobox for uniformity. If you can add more information to the infobox, that would be great. You'll find more information on what you can add by following the link. Remember tho, the subject of the article is alive so one of our most restrictive policies, WP:BLP applies. Make sure you have a source for everything and you'll be fine. All I wanted to do was update it. I'm not an expert on Wikis or anything, just wanted to keep it updated. I added the boys bowling title for now. I think I did this correctly. If not, feel free to correct it. I want to add the equestrian titles in time, but want to do it correctly as Wikipedia would allow. I've reread your message and understand what you mean.

Current State Titles:

Football: 2002, 2004, and 2009 Wrestling: 2002, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 Boys Bowling: 2017 Equestrian: All were on there but were deleted.

PS: What is it with Scranton? Seen more weird edits for it than most town of similar size.

It's a very boring town? The whole lake Scranton thing is bizarre, but I think much of it has to do with the TV series "The Office". As far as the stations go, I removed it as I don't recall that on very many settlement articles and it sure seems like directory content to me. Fundamentally, what's the difference between listing street addresses and channel selector addresses? I won't argue if you think it belongs, but I don't. Her maiden name was Helman. She is now head of Nemours Hospital in Orlando. Can you please undo your edit? Also, can you please see if you can make her blue the same as all of the other entries. Thanks!!

This is how you communicate on Wikipedia. Please type 4 tildes at the end of your message as that automatically adds your signature with a link to your talk page and a timestamp. Ordered communication is very important on Wikipedia as there are no editors - in - chief here; disputes on content are settled by reasoned consensus. Regarding you specific question, what is required to list someone in a notable alumni section is that the person be notable (which is proven by her having a bio here) and that she be an alumni. Keep in mind this is an encyclopedia, by definition a tertiary source. So no, a letter to you stating she is an alumni is not sufficient. As a tertiary source, we do not write about a given subject; we do not do original research (which a letter would be); we draw no conclusions. Instead, we write about what is written about a given subject in reliable sources. So, what you need to do is find some secondary source such as a book, magazine, newspaper or respected academic journal that mentions her attendance at the school. It does not have to be online, so here's a suggestion. I would guess that anyone with enough of the right stuff to get into medical school probably made the honor roll in high school. Sometimes local papers publish that. If her name has changed by marriage since high school, newspapers also cover that. Hope this helps. Edits to Shenandoah, Pennsylvania page

Hi, about the edits to the Shenandoah, Pennsylvania page. I'm a resident of the borough, and try to stay updated on local news as best I can, following local sources such as the TV Stations WYLN-35 and WBRE-28, as well as newspapers the Republican-Herald and Shenandoah Sentinel. Recently, I've noticed the Shenandoah Sentinel listing on the borough's wikipedia page disappearing, so I've been re-adding it as it does. It is consistently removed by a Shenandoah-based IP address, who has also edited the entry to read: "* The Shenandoah Sentinel, online-based newspaper, serving Shenandoah and Upper Schuylkill County, which is highly biased and not recommended for the general public who wants truly good and accurate news. [1] " and "Do yourself a favor and never read the garbage news source known as The Shenandoah Sentinel." The site has provided more accurate coverage of news in northern Schuylkill County than most local news sources, and has had content featured on local TV stations, so, with that and the past history of the editor removing the site, I do not believe the edit is in good faith. Greetings, John from Idegon! On April 29, I noticed that you removed my name from Articles for creation participants saying "Please read the qualifications." I have read the qualifications 17 times now by my count, and am still confused as to which one I do not meet. Criteria: AfC reviewers must have:

  • a Wikipedia account at least 90 days old.

My first edit was on Dec 6, 2016, 1:06 AM, about 144 days ago as far as I can tell

  • a minimum of 500 undeleted edits to articles.

I have had ~1500 edits, of which 1,076 have been to articles

  • thoroughly read and understood the reviewing instructions.

Assuming the instructions are here, I read them twice, and am pretty clear on what is what

  • a good understanding of the policies mentioned in the reviewing instructions, including the various special notability categories.
