Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Elcka
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Elcka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.elcka.net/biography.asp. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 10:33, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello MJSC123. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MJSC123. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MJSC123|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 12:16, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi no I am not being paid anything just trying to get the correct information on the page, am happy to make whatever suggested edits are needed, many thanks MJSC123 (talk) 13:27, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- What is your association with the band? 331dot (talk) 15:09, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
AfC notification: Draft:Elcka has a new comment
[edit]- That's a load of old rubbish to be honest for some reason you're just "anti" this whole article for no reason that I can see. The written article is no different to this one written about a similar band from the same time.
- This whole period was before the age of the internet & so all of the articles backing up the statements were written in the Melody Maker which isn't available as an online archive, we're talking about 1998, but you can clearly see that the date, the publication and the author are visible & the articles backing up the statements were all from the national music press of the time. I am happy to make changes but if you compare the 2 articles there is little difference. MJSC123 (talk) 18:50, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- I can't see your "written article" the draft has no content? See also othercrap articles exists, Strangelove (band) has been tagged for poor sources for 13 years so probably not a good example to emulate. Sources do not have to be online. Theroadislong (talk) 19:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Their own website cannot be used to establish notability, you need to show how they pass WP:NBAND. Theroadislong (talk) 19:15, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- yes the version I had created was deleted, is there any way to get it back, they did restore it before when it got deleted. The point I'm making is that the sources are only available from the bands website as they are scans of national music press media from the time which isn't now available online for example this article: https://elcka.net/article_viewer.asp?desc=Elcka%20Top%20of%20the%20Fops&folder=press&file=Elcka%20Top%20of%20the%20Fops.jpg
- it's hosted on the bands website but was from melody maker which was 1 of the national press weeklies in the UK at the time & you can see the date, the publication name & the author clearly at the top. At the time this was the national music press so this must be considered a valid source. It's not just been written by the band these are scans of press reports. The Melody Maker folded in around 2000 & along with the NME was the primary source of "new music" information in the UK really before the internet took off & killed off these publications. All of the sources used in the article were from national music press reports like the Guardian. Most of the material isn't available as a direct link from the publication as many of them don't exist any more. MJSC123 (talk) 08:23, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- Then you should simply cite the press information without citing their own website- it's up to readers to locate the sources if they want to review them(such as locating them in a library archive). All you need is the name of the publisher, title, date, page number, author, etc. 331dot (talk) 09:28, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- ok thanks, is it possible to get back the deleted version then I can make the changes MJSC123 (talk) 12:19, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- 1 question how, do the moderators check what you're saying is correct if there is no direct link to the source surely they need to validate what you're saying is true,as mentioned these publications are no longer online only hard copies (scans) exist ? MJSC123 (talk) 12:38, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- Are you saying that these documents don't exist anywhere else in the world? Documents exclusively in private hands aren't acceptable as sources. 331dot (talk) 12:58, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- If these documents are from publishers they are usually in a library or archive somewhere. 331dot (talk) 13:00, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- yes they were published they were national press written & published in the uk, so they would exist as copies somewhere like the British library for example I'm really surprised there is no online archive, there is this but it only goes up to the 1980s https://worldradiohistory.com/Melody_Maker.htm MJSC123 (talk) 14:53, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- Then that's probably all right. A source does not need to be easy or free to access, it need only be available to the public. You don't need to provide a specific location, just the information necessary for someone to locate it(author, publisher, date, page numbers, etc.). If locating it requires that one travel to the British Library, then that's what the reader will need to do if they are interested in verifying the information. 331dot (talk) 14:59, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
- ok thanks is it possible to reinstate the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Elcka which was created with the deleted content as this version has no content, it was deleted before I could get it back, then I can make the changes MJSC123 (talk) 08:14, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- You will need to ask at WP:REFUND. 331dot (talk) 08:54, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Draft:Elcka, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.
