Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. What makes a science fiction group notable (for this site)?
Hi this is a question about notability. There seem to be a looooot of articles about local science fiction societies. I presume because there are a lot of SciFi fans on wiki, they seem to be immune to failing the normal required standard of notability needed. I am thinking of Birmingham Science Fiction Group, an article which to me is completely lame, but because it is 'important in the history of british science fiction groups' or something, a prod was removed. Well it wouldn't be in Britannia lol, and to the rest of the world that aren't into SciFi I can tell from the article's history that I'm not the first to be surprised that it's there, someone else tried to speedy it. I know he's making good faith edits, but I don't think he's familiar with the importance of providing sources and abiding by WP:MOS. I was clearing out closed AfD's from the Bio category when I found an open AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ben Rudnick. The article had already been deleted, so I checked its log - and found that you had deleted it on 13 November per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BenRudnick. Note the space in the name. It looks like the nominator created this AfD twice (within the same minute, no less), and only one was closed. Both had delete votes, and there was no support at all for keeping the article, but I though I'd mention the duplicate debate to you, since you were the closing admin. If it were to go to DRV for some bizarre reason, I figured you'd want to know what happened. I non-admin closed the dupe, noting the debate you closed. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Adtranz.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You voted for one of my prior proposals to institute a List of the Day Proposal. I may have already alerted you to an experiment I am conducting at WP:LOTD. Now that the experiment is running I can point out the benefits to the project of the method I am experimenting with that other alternatives don't offer. First, there is a set of orphaned articles for persons who do not have any featured lists of their own or persons that would like to take responsibility for more. Anyone can nominate such orphans. This benefits WP by getting people involved in list articles that might not have active editors to update them or defend them against vandalism. Please consider adopting one of our orphans.
There are several other advantages that will improve the project:
Each list will be encouraged to respond to commentary and feedback during the candidacy period, which will hopefully improve the quality of the articles.
Articles without pictures will be encouraged to find them. E.g., List of Harry Potter films cast members had no image before its nominator added an image for this experiment. This type of thing, of course, improves the project.
Articles are encouraged to add relevant projects to their talk page. This alerts other project to articles that they would likely have an interest in and would be able to either improve or protect.
