Farewell

[edit]

Hey, was surprised to see your retirement notice. Just wanted to thank you for all you've done here. You really improved our Namco/obscure arcade side of Wikipedia in a way that I think very few could have. You will be deeply missed; I hope you return. Godspeed. I know we had our fair share of edit fights and disagreements but I was really taken by surprise for your retirement. If there's one thing I can say to you is that you did a great job with multiple Namco articles and other arcade games. Whatever you plan to do now in your life, I hope for the best to you. I look forward to the day you make a comeback and deliver the best Namco article you can make! Take care man... Roberth Martinez (talk) 04:38, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner, but I thought I’d drop by. I’m sorry to see you go, but I hope you’ll come back someday. There are few great editors who actually make Wikipedia articles great, and you are one of them. I know this place can be frustrating and make you want to give up - I did that twice myself. That being said, I hope you enjoy your time away, and if you come back, I’ll look forward to a chance for a collaboration - since working with you I have been amazed at how much our respective video game companies we edit cross over. Regardless of if you do come back or not, it has been an honor and a privilege to work with you. Red Phoenix talk 15:06, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pang/Buster Bros. series

[edit]

I wanted to ask how you formed your opinion on what the most commonly used names for these games are? WP:COMMONNAME says "(as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)" so I wondered what your sources were? So far I have used Google Trends, Google Search, and YouTube Search – all show that worldwide use of Pang (and its variants) outnumbers Buster Bros. (and its variants). Thoughts appreciated, I'm gathering information to make another move request for this series next month. —Flicky1984 (talk) 13:52, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fighting Layer Stub

Hey Namcokid47, I am a University student in a Wikipedia education class. I have assigned to the stub, Fighting Layer, to improve and add more content. I am not sure why you have reverted my edit.--Dr.Fanz in the studio (talk) 01:19, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. If you're referring to this, I reverted it because you didn't provide a reliable source that confirms it was released on December 9. If you'd like to see what video game-related sources Wikipedia considers reliable and unreliable, please view WP:VG/S. Thanks. Namcokid47 (Contribs) 01:29, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Namcokid47, I was refering to the characters section, my instructor has explained to me why it is reverted and i will try to improve the page so that it orientate the reader. Is it better to publish the changes once i have all descriptions on all of the characters? Thanks --Dr.Fanz in the studio (talk) 04:12, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that. I don't think it's necessary to have detailed descriptions for every character. That comes off as WP:GAMECRUFT and is better-suited for strategy guides or fansites than something like Wikipedia. You could try doing what the article for The King of Fighters '94 does and have a short paragraph on the different characters, if that's of any help. Thanks. There's a few others I've found, including these previews from IGN and GameSpot, and some additional ones from GameSpark and Gaming Alexandria. Would you like to work on it together? I don't think I'll make it a GA, but with my writing and your knack for finding good sources, this could be a pretty decent and comprehensive article. Let me know if you're up for that. Namcot Collection

[edit]

As you should know, I reviewed and just promoted Namcot Collection. Would you mind if I submit a DYK? I suggest one of the following:

...that the digital version of Namcot Collection was temporarily pulled from sale the same day it was released?

...that the developers acquired the rights and used a Japanese ROM hack of Pac-Man Championship Edition from 2008 for the Namcot Collection?

...that the main menu of the Namcot Collection is designed to look like a collector's shelf?

DYK nomination for Super Robot Wars XO

[edit]

Hi, Namcokid47 while patrolling I came across your article Super Robot Wars XO and found interesting. So, I have co-nominated it for DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/Super Robot Wars XO. Feel free to improve or add any ALTs if you wish. — Amkgp 💬 19:43, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Amkgp Are you sure it's really interesting enough to warrant a DYKG nomination? I don't see anything in this article that would make for a good DYKG fact (it's just a remake of a GameCube game on a console that flopped in Japan), and the nomination you made is just a real basic, uninteresting description of the gameplay. I can't really think of anything to add to the animation. It's up to you if you wanna go through with it, since I don't hold any ownership over the page. The Barnstar of Diligence
For always working hard to improving Namco articles. You make a real difference.Blue Pumpkin Pie Chat Contribs 14:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I just wanted to mention that the DYK for the Namcot Collection has failed. It seems like I did not do a good enough of aource review, and original research might be present. Here are the reviewers claims:

  1. "the Japanese consumer game division of Namco, for the Family Computer (Famicom) and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)" is unmentioned in the source provided.
  2. Two references are present for how Game Freak and Atlus are the creators of these games, but one source says Game Freak made one game and Atlus is never present in either
  3. The third sentence mentions the years 1980 and 1981, but are not mentioned in the references.
  4. The fourth sentence has the same issue with 1989, and also states it was "specifically for the Famicom and NES" with no mention of NES in the source.
  5. The citation for the fifth citation mentions none of these genres.
  6. The source for the sixth sentence does not mention homebrew and 2007 anywhere.

The reviewer called the GA review "clearly flawed", and stated how they "see no reason to look through the rest of the article until a proper one by someone else is completed". Ouch. But this user does have a good reputation of source review; I definitely believe you have some things to say about the above, as I know you have a good reputation about creating quality articles. These do need to be addressed. Le Panini [🥪] 20:07, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ports vs. retro rereleases

[edit]

Hi Namkokid 47! When a game is rereleased later as part of a retro compilation like Taito Legends 2–those aren't the same as ports. They're not contemporaneous; they usually happen many years later, and in most cases they're ROM images running under emulation. There are hundreds of articles that have the compilations in Legacy, and from a readers point of view, this makes sense. It doesn't confuse the original game and later, possibly numerous repackagings. Have a good day! Dgpop (talk) 17:39, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: WP:BOLD redirects

[edit]

Hello, I'd like to remind you that regardless of your views on an article, boldly redirecting an article with a lengthy history with zero discussion is disruptive editing. There is the AfD process if you believe something is non-notable, which also happens to strengthen your point if everyone votes delete. I'm not sure how you would expect a unilateral redirect to stick, and is just annoying to anyone who might have been working on it beforehand.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:14, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zxcvbnm This is flat-out wrong, you're deliberately disagreeing with this core concept. Half of that discussion about Klobb was about why AfD is an inappropriate and unnecessary place to take that article to, yet you continue to suggest otherwise. Redirecting is a perfectly suitable alternative to outright deletion, which certainly doesn't count as disruptive editing. The term AfD means "articles for deletion", not "articles for discussion" like so many editors have tried proposing in the past. I don't want this article deleted, I think it is fine as a redirect instead of its own page. I'm currently prepping a discussion about its notability. @Namcokid47: What I want to know is why multiple users are suddenly reverting the article to a redirect, clearly against WP:BRDD guidelines. If the edit is reverted it must go to a discussion. Period.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:40, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I concur it is perculiar behavior. If you make a BOLD edit (like redirecting an entire article), and it gets reverted then you take it to the talk page to discuss, simple. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 22:50, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't even revert anything? I'm currently writing a talk page discussion for this. Namcokid47 (Contribs) 22:57, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Virtual Boy game screenshots

[edit]

Hey there! I hope you had a good time in these holidays. I noted that you were working on a few drafts related to Virtual Boy games that don't have their own articles (such as Space Squash and V-Tetris) so i wanted to let you know that i have screenshots ready for them months ago. Let me know when you're finished with them and upload them into their articles. Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:07, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Super Robot Wars XO

[edit]

On 1 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Super Robot Wars XO, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that XO was one of the lowest-selling games in the Super Robot Wars series due to Xbox 360's unwelcoming commercial and critical reception in Japan? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Super Robot Wars XO. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Super Robot Wars XO), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
