Orphaned non-free media (Image:Juice logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Juice logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 14:28, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Werewolvesoflondon-title.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Hfromstepsisdead.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. File permission problem with File:K16cylinderhead.jpg

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:K16cylinderhead.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:24, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Men of War: Red Tide has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of how this might meet notability guidelines. Lacks citations to significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fair use rationale for File:Menofwarredtidescreenshot.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Menofwarredtidescreenshot.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image sourcing, copyrights and possible move to Commons

[edit]

Hi Nibi,

I'm thinking of expanding a bit on the Rover K engines (through bolt engines, wet liners) and was interested in maybe using some of your images. File:KseriesK18.jpg was one, also File:K16cylinderhead.jpg

I see from the rash of templates that there has been some past issues over annotating these images after upload, to identify sourcing & copyright. Can I help in any way? It looks like you're uploading photos you took yourself, and you then want to release these with either CC or public domain licences. If that's the case, then pasting in a fragment like this should sort you out (I took the liberty of doing this for File:KseriesK18.jpg):

== {{int:filedesc}} ==
{{Information

  |Description=   Description stuff

  |Source={{own}}
  |Author={{own}}

  |date=  Whenever
}}

== {{int:license}} ==
{{PD-self}}

{{CC-by-sa}} is another good choice of licence, if you don't want full PD.

I know the whole templated complaints thing is a pain, especially when you know that you took the photo yourself. However see it from WP's side - there's an awful lot of content, some of it's hooky, and the only way to manage copyright compliance (which matters, or else WP just gets sued into oblivion by some big studio) is by having a big, powerful steamroller that's not always too easy to steer. So if uploaders use the templates, auto-check people use the right autho-checking, we all get to have a quiet life and our pictures are on-line. Sorted.

Commons

[edit]

Another way (which is what I generally do) is to send stuff to Wikimedia Commons instead. Bit of a nicer atmosphere for editors too, IMHO. Simple upload system that lets you pick licences (CC-by-sa is usually good) and better categorization trees for organising them.

It's also possible to auto-move images to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons

Anyway, hope this helps (and it's better than more templates). Shout if I can help at all. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:17, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't really have any idea on copyrighting/tagging images, I think most of my images I've submitted are removed. You can use the images if you want to expand the KSeries section, I can't send them over or resubmit them with your copyright information! Thanks! --Nibi (talk) 09:18, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Cattlepress

[edit]

The article Cattlepress has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Questionably notable for general notability and or bands notability guidelines as my searches found nothing better at all aside from a few passing mentions. The only claim of significance to exempt this from A7 is the record label but there's nothing else to suggest notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Neck (New York Band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
