Proposed deletion of Gsis village high school

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Gsis village high school, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, Palengkero. We appreciate your contributions, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, the article Ismael Mathay, Sr. has had to be deleted. The entire contents of the article were copied from this source, under the section titled "The Great Man". Unfortunately, though I see you made an effort to create a new page at Talk:Ismael Mathay, Sr./Temp, it also was copied from that source, and so we cannot use it, either. We may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

Presuming that the individual in question meets the notability guidelines for people as set out here and that you can verify this with reliable, independent sources, you are welcome to create a new article on this gentleman, but please do not duplicate words of phrases from other sources unless the source belongs to you or you can verify permission from the copyright holder to place the information here.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it and to reproduce it, even for commercial reasons — then you should include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." If the source does not belong to you, you may write to the copyright holder for permission, proof of which must either be placed at the website or mailed to the Wikimedia Foundation. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for more.

Wikipedia needs external verification of permission to duplicate previously published material or even to closely summarize it, as this makes a derivative work. We need this even if the contributor is the copyright owner of the external source, because we do not require verification of identity at account creation.

If you have any questions about these policies and guidelines, please feel free to let me know at my talk page. Alternatively, you may always seek assistance at Wikipedia's help desk, typically monitored around the clock by volunteers. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:23, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your message on my Talk page

[edit]

Hi Palengkero,

A couple of points:

  • when putting a message on an wikipedia page (whether at the help desk or an article's talk page, or a user's talk page) it is probably best not to put your e-mail address. This is a very public website, and people can come across your e-mail address quite easily. The easiest way to communicate is as we are doing now - by leaving messages on other editor's talk pages! I have removed your e-mail address from my talk page.
  • I understand your frustration at seeing your work being undone - however, as jeb said on his reply on the Help Desk, no one owns articles, and anyone can edit it. I left the merge suggestions, as I felt that you (or someone else more knowledgeable than me about IMSHS) would be best able to make the suggested change. I am also concerned that although the alumni mentioned may be notable to other alumni and to residents of the Philippines, from a world-wide perspective they are not notable - and under the criteria for wikipedia, I don't think they should be there.
  • To be honest, I'm not sure if the article itself should be on wikipedia - I can't find any real evidence of notability that makes it suitable for inclusion. However, I'll leave it to others to decide that issue.
  • Please note, I have nothing against you or IMSHS! I just feel that as it stands, the article needs sorting out - if it should be on wikipedia at all. However, as I said, I'll leave others to decide on this issue, as I am too close to the issue!

Don't be deterred from editing Wikipedia - we need enthusiastic editors!

Thanks for your message. In the Thornton Heath article, I contributed just a few characters - a link to another article, if I remember correctly. I used to be a teacher - I recently left teaching after 15 years, never to return to teaching! Happy editing. PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 00:35, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hey Palengkero! Phantomsteve mentioned that you might be in need of a little advice. As you will notice, another editor has removed some text from the article, citing it as a "copyright violation". Now, this can seem a little confusing to people who were just copying their own material from their own website: in other words, where they were the copyright holder. Unfortunately, given the quick spread of information these days, we would soon find ourselves in a spot of bother if we were not to check each and every case to make sure that they actually were the copyright holder. If this applies to you , just let me know and we can sort something out. Else, I'm afraid that by using that text here we are breaking the law. - Jarry1250 [ In the UK? The Article

[edit]

Hi Palengkero!

Just a quick note - as Jarry said above, if you own the copyright to the website http://gsisvhsaa.tripod.com (in other words, you are George Magno Prado), contact him (or me) and we can help you prove that and tell you how to release the copyright so that the text can be used on the article.

I have made a few changes to the article:

  1. I removed your note, and the DB... the note should have gone on the talk page; the Speedy Delete didn't work before, if I remember right. Other editors have worked on the article, and some of them are very experienced, and if they thought it should be deleted, they would have sorted that out!
  2. Do not give up - We can get round the problems with the article. I have changed some of the citations from simple text (like "Library of Congress.." with no web link) to web linked ones.
  3. I am re-writing some of the sections - this will keep the meaning, without the extra wordiness!
  4. I have removed the The Transformation and IMSHS sections - as they stand, they do not add to the article. I'm sure that I could write these up in a way which is more useable - but see below.

Don't give up - we can work on the article to get it suitable as a wiki article, while still saying most (if not all) of what you wanted to say before! I've got some ideas, but I may not be able to do much more today, and may have to work on it next week, when I'll next have time to do so!

Regards, PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:23, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the DB notice - although you created the article, there have been many edits on it, by a variety of editors, and so it would not qualify for speedy deletion on those grounds. Don't give up - we wil continue to work on the article! PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing adding G7 tags to this article after speedy has been rejected and continueing to remove content is liable to be viewed as vandalism and you may be blocked. Dpmuk (talk) 16:18, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as those you made to Ismael Mathay Sr. High School. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing. Dpmuk (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've now felt I have no choice but to report you to WP:AIV. Please stop your adding of tags / removal of content and discuss the issues. Dpmuk (talk) 16:39, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:46, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • When you are unblocked, should you wish to continue to work on the Ismael Mathay Sr. High School article in a constructive way, let me know and I will help. If you do not want to be constructive, then just leave the article as is. As I have said a few times, I am willing to help with this article, but obviously I am not going to put in any more effort if you will just undo the work/time I spend on it. Regards, PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:52, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Palengkero, I hope that when your block expires you will resume working constructively on the Ismael Mathay Sr. High School article.

I understand that you feel hurt by the removal of the copyright violation material, but please understand that it had to go: Not only was it a copyright violation, it was also plagerism. Almost as important, it was not good content for a world-wide encyclopedia. For it gives unneeded details (like the PTA president’s name) and omits things that a world audience needs to understand the article.

I rewrote one paragraph as an example of how the copyrighted material could be rewritten. I’m sure you could do a much better job. Here is an example of something I did not understand in the original article—something I hope you can explain in the article—What is the connection between the palengke school, the Toro Hills school, the Pugad Lawin school, and the “sprawling campus” of the IMSHS? Did the first three all merge to form IMSHS? Or what? Also what does GSIS stand for?—It is not mentioned in the Quezon City article. (The only Philippine connection I can find is Government Service Insurance System, but I can't imagine what that has to do with a "village.") —teb728 t c 20:36, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
